If Bo goes then get rid of Rutherford!
JayDangles replied to Steve The Poolman's topic in Canucks Talk
Well thats kind of using todays information and applying it in hindsight. In the summer, Miller was the higher producing player (99pts) and had shown more leadership. BO had only produced 52 points and there were rumours about him losing the room. I'm not saying management made the right call, but given the info at the time Bo was not worth more than Miller. Sorry but I don't buy the position that you knew Bo was worth more than Miller back in July. -

Yeah we know. The only posts you really care about are your own. You probably reread your own posts multiple times while patting yourself on the back hey? -

I totally get the risk factor in bringing on an aging heavyweight, but you could just see on the ice that it doesn't matter if Reaves fights or even lays out a hit, even young guys like Kaprisov were playing tougher. Having a tough guy around has that mental affect. I can attest because in my younger years I was a little scrappy when I went out with my buddies, but I had 2 friends that even I was scared of. When they came out with us I wasn't worried about anything and confident bordering on cocky. Reaves gives some players extra confidence and confidence translates to better play. If it's not a heavyweight then it can be energy guys on the 4th. Remember Torres, Lapierre, Ruutu, even Roussell before the refs got on him. They can rally a team and create a spark. Even Garland last year was playing with an edge and drawing the team in. Right now this team has no toughness and no desire to inject emotion. In regards to Bo, I'm not trying to single him out, but it drives me nuts that as a player myself, I can read the game and know that the teams needs a spark of energy. I've seen it in many games in the last couple years, and it's never Bo that provides that spark. Sure he provides some timely goal scoring lately, but he is falling way short of true leadership. I know he is a good hockey player and probably a nice guy, but you can't deny that he does not carry the team on his back or rally them into a fight like guys like Bieksa or Kesler or Burrows used to do. And he doesn't have the consistent offence or command respect like either of the Sedins. -

There's that, plus Foligno CAN fight and has 5" and 35lbs on Stillman We really only have Schenn who can fight and he is old and smart about picking his moments. Joshua will fight but he isn't in the heavyweight category IMHO. This team doesnt have individual toughness which translates to not having team toughness. Really disappointed with Lazar, Miller, Horvat, Myers. All guys who are capable of using a bigger frame to make things slightly more difficult for opposing players, but actively avoid playing physical to any degree. Lazars best game of the season was his first game back from injury. Had 5 hits in his first period. Since that game he has disappeared again. -

So I know I'm just one fan and my money doesn't mean much, but I don't live in BC. Which means I get to van once a year maybe. I have been to many games and often get tickets to a home game if I'm passing through the city. I'll be coming in on Jan 5th when nucks play the Avs. I decided I will not be buying a ticket because the team is not in a place where I feel like the product I watch is worth the $300 ill spend. The reality is that even for die hard fans like me, I can't afford to put money into a team that won't make the tough decisions and think long term. -

One thing for sure is you can see the effect a guy like Reaves has on both teams. Min played like they were all 6" taller, and van played like they were all Garlands. Petey was getting worked over all night. Team just has no desire to push back. Our "energy" guys are not energy guys. This is a game where either a big hit or a "non staged" fight could have changed things early on. Also, where is the captain??? I've been very impressed with his scoring lately, but it's clear that after many years, Bo still has no clue how to read a game and inspire or motivate to effect change. This is the real Canucks team and changes need to happen! -
I don't think anyone really questions his ability to put up points. Points are good, but he needs to be scoring goals. He also doesn't drive the play, or drive a line. He isn't a fit on PP1 as Miller has taken his spot on the half boards. BB6 just doesn't fit, and the risk is his injury history and speed. He is trending in the wrong direction All this I'm sure you know already. Just clarifying that comparing salary to pts isn't an accurate assessment of BB6

[PROPOSAL] Bo Horvat to Boston Bruins
JayDangles replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Agreed, although I dont think teams scouting him are going to be overly concerned with his scoring pace. They probably see him as underperforming and lower risk in that area. I bet whats holding him back is his speed and defensive play. Teams will be concerned about that. Especially since he is still so young. -

Good point. But even if we took back equal salary on Boeser to make the numbers work, the player coming back is likely not going to have an impact on our Defense one bit. Likely an inferior player with less contract term. I just dont seem him being enough to move the needle enough for any team to give back anything of actual value. -
[PROPOSAL] Bo Horvat to Boston Bruins
JayDangles replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Come on... move Boeser to address our defense issues? We need two top 4, We probably couldnt move Boeser for future considerations, let alone a top 6 D, let alone a top 4 d. Nobody wants Boeser, Garland, Myers, Miller, OEL. The only guys we have of any value are Horvat, Schenn, Kuzmenko and the untouchables (Petey, Hughes, draft picks). The only way to improve the defence is to move any, or a combination of Horvat, Schenn or Kuzmenko. Pick your poison
