  1. I don't know. I don't agree or disagree. I mean some players are willing to build in different areas in order to be a more rounded player. How many times have you heard a new guy come in and say things like "whatever they need me to do, block shots, be physical, kill penalties" etc I don't know that people are admonishing BB6 for "aspects that aren't part of his game" I mean back checking, playing defense, scoring goals, being tough on the boards, those are just part of the game and should be in every players wheelhouse. In regards to Bo being physical or not, my issue is that Bo does 2 things wrong in the physical department. 1. He actually avoids hitting. He does so many fly bys it's ridiculous. Hitting can be strategic and if the other team knows Bo won't hit then they will have more time to make decisions etc. 2. Hitting can be used as a tool to gain momentum, to turn the tides, to rally the team etc. His failure to have this tool in his toolbox makes him a less effective captain. So to sum up, of course some players are better at different aspects of the game than others, but they are still hockey players. They grew up playing hockey, they know, or should know how to tap into areas of their game that aren't their primary skill set. It would appear to me that the only 2 players that know how to make in-game assessments And adjust their play accordingly are Petey and Schenn. That's a big problem in regular season and don't even get me started on what will happen if this team ever made the playoffs!
  2. Agreed . Big mistake "giving" someone like Petey the captaincy. Having someone earn it is the right way. Petey may well become the captain in 3 years, but moving too early would burden a player who is still growing as a player.
  3. Imagine a Kuzmenko + Schenn package for a playoff contender! Seriously low CAP hit for goals and toughness.
  4. I'm sorry if people are offended by this, but I just needed to get it out. This is nuts that we're even talking about this. Bad things happen to good people all the time. Everyones parents eventually pass. Sometimes too soon, sometimes its tragic, sometimes its slow. I have empathy for anyone who has lost a love one. But people on here and media speak like he is the only player to ever experience loss and as such everyone should take it easy on him. I know what I'm saying sounds like the opposite of empathy, but I'm speaking the truth. When my father past, I took a week off to sort his affairs, organize a funeral and then I had to be back at work. It sucked, I felt sad a lot. it was tough, but life is tough and I think if as fans we say players are people too then I think it's ok to sometimes expect them to act like people and do normal people things like greive, see a counsellor and then life goes on. If he needs to take a break from hockey take a break. If he needs to see a counsellor, see a counsellor. None of that has anything to do with playing hockey for 60 minutes. Life is tough, pro hockey players have problems too but when your paid to do a job and you collect the paycheck, there shouldn't be an excuse for not putting maximum effort into it.
  5. Actually, I'll give credit to benning for finding Miller and bringing him over. He found an underutilized player and he made a good trade to nab him. Miller then played well above his pay grade. The failure is that current management didn't trade him while his stock was high and instead signed him long term. Benning did the right thing in that scenario, and in reality this management group needs to do the same. Find some diamonds in the rough. (Not saying Benning was a good GM, just acknowledging a good move). The big issue is that Miller is signed long term and instantly started showing the negative qualities a lot of seasoned fans were picking up on previous. The scary thing is people actually want management to repeat this same fatal flaw with Bo, and Kuzmenko. They are great players, but both will be looking for 7-8 year deals and will want to be paid based on 1 good season. Bo is on pace for 100+ points this year and will want to be paid as such. but no way in hell is he going to sustain 100+ points or even close to it. Miller needs to go because his attitude is toxic. Bo needs to go if this team wants to build any assets Dumping any of BB, Garland, Myers, Pearson for anything, future considerations, whatever needs to happen.
  6. You're correct about having an injection of young, cheap superstars to keep teams competitive and stay under the cap. but what's also needed are RFA's or 2nd or 3rd contract players who start to play above their pay grade. Canucks have done a piss poor job at predicting talent. We sign players based on 1 year of production, assuming that will last forever (Eriksson, Miller). We need better pro scouting and look for players who are being underutilized or misused. or provide a better environment for players to succeed. That kind of thing. Obviously, no one can predict the future, but we can sure start learning from the past.
  7. Agreed on all points. I'm very surprised that Miller was given such a vote of confidence by management and signed long term. Anyone who knows hockey knows this type of player is an absolute cancer when things aren't going right. I've played on so many different teams and I have encountered Miller players so many times. Great hockey players that will break their back for their team. BUT the second things aren't going right, they become horribly selfish, prone to outburst, quitting on plays etc. Then if you try and call them out and try to hold them accountable, they only get worse. The whole team suffers around players like this. How could all the great new hockey minds in the front office not see this. I made numerous posts warning about signing Miller and called for him to be traded. I called it, and I definitely don't claim to be as smart as an NHL GM. I'm just tired of seeing the same issues from the same players over and over. Sorry, rant over.
  8. Yeah, holiday season freeze. So the track record so far is: - Jan 2022 Need time to asses the team - don't do anything - Feb - Hire a bunch of "smart minds" - Trade deadline, looks like we might make playoffs - dont do anything - Off season, resign players to long term deals - dont improve defence - Draft, don't move a single asset for a single pick - November -Quarter mark of the season. Too early to admit defeat. Dont do anything - December, happy holidays! No one should be traded at christmas - Don't do anything Honestly starting to wonder if PA and JR have replaced themselves at their desks and in the upper box with cardboard cut outs. Has anyone checked if they are even in the country still?
  9. I think whether they are in the playoffs or out will decide what happens at the deadline.. which is the merry go round of Canucks hockey. The decision on the direction of the season, and subsequently the next 3-5 years needs to be made now.
  10. I'm so disgusted with Miller and his lack of on ice effort. If anyone recorded the game, go back and watch how far away Miller starts gliding to the bench for a change. I know lots of players never hustle to the bench for a change, but he legit stops skating in the offensive zone, when our bench is in the defensive zone. It takes him 5 seconds to even get close enough for the next player to jump on. If it was me waiting to come on I'd be screaming at him to hurry the F*** up! This lack of effort screws over the new line coming over the boards and often leads to odd man rushes. Leadership....
  11. While I totally agree Alf with the fact that the owner is going to influence the path forward, the reality is we may not be able to afford Bo even if we wanted to keep him. Owner cant influence the salary cap. If we cant move at least 2 of either Boeser, Miller, Myers or Garland... Bo is as good as gone either way.
  12. I honestly dont know if you're joking or not. My faith in fellow Canucks fans rests on the assumption that you're joking
  13. Man, it's like you can see I to the future! What a gift you have. Remember, with great power comes great responsibility. Oh and... STILLMAN... Ugh
  14. Man you would seriously argue with a possum if it stood there long enough.
  15. Yeah I think your way too focused on the off ice parts and not enough on the on ice. Sorry but being involved in charities and part of the community is basically status quo for being an NHL player. Playoff performer?? What playoffs? The bubble? Bo hasn't led this team to anything. You're definitely in the minority if you think Bo plays like a captain on the ice. Again, he is a good player and. Good person I am sure, but it's time to move on.
  16. Youre right, there's more to being a captain than hitting, but youre also so very wrong if you think that's all people are saying when they say he isn't physical. He isn't tough on the boards, he doesn't finish his checks, he doesn't seek out good hits, he doesn't know how to get engage in scrums, he consistently turns his back on teammates when they are getting roughed up or when they get hit bad. He doesn't himself show any desire to push back in the slightest. So you're right, there's more than hits to being a captain and leader. Just like I can say to you, there's a lot more than scoring or having good stick work to being a caption. Maybe you can provide a long list of good captain traits he shows that aren't just good hockey player traits?
  17. Not saying Bo isn't a good hockey player. The point is that Bo clearly either doesn't have the ability to read situations and inspire his team by becoming physically engaged, or that he has lost interest. He is scoring at a record pace, but beyond that he IMHO does not have what it takes to be a true leader. If there was ever a time to move on this is it. To the point at hand, Bo does not throw hits or finish checks, he uses good positional play to defend or attack, but so does Dries. Bo wears the letter "c" but you wouldn't know it 97% of the time.
  18. Bo. Does.Not.Finish.Checks. I say that having watched every single Canuck game Bo has played in, either live or recorded.
  19. What are you talking about man!? He is playing terrible and has worked his way down the line up all on his own. Yeah we as fans shouldn't say anything negative about players. We should just be happy with mediocre play, terrible defending, no aggression, weak along the boards, doing complete fly bys. How dare we say anything! Lol As a human being I'm sure he is a great guy, but his play is seriously lacking. Can't just hand out a bunch of participation awards and expect to win anything.
  20. To be fair, he made a lot of moves that set the team back. Lol
  21. Exactly Alf. As much as I want to move assets and invest in the future I just don't see that happening. So frustrating for fans who understand how the long game is actually played.
  22. To Bennings credit, And I know this is tough for people to hear, at least there was a recognition that the team needed a shake up. While his moves in hindsight set the team back, in reality he was trying to move on from the same old same old and take this team to a different level. He took a swing and missed, but he stepped up. Right now we are calling on current management to do the same thing
  23. Agree with everything, except one thing. Real true captains will find other ways to motivate the team. Scoring is one thing. Hard on the boards, hitting, scrapping, getting fired up... It seems Bo just doesn't know how to seize an opportunity or respond in the moment. I think he is a great hockey player but he needs a change, this team needs a change. The old adage always comes into play here and everyone, the fans, CDC, players and management need to start realizing.... "Nothing changes if nothing changes"
