I completely blame Smith and his childish temper tantrums for what happens to Kassian. If Smith just stayed in his crease without acting like a petulant child and attacking MacEwen, Kassian wouldn't have felt obligated to try and defend his goalie's "honor" and scrap with 4 min left in the game. In any league I would be embarrassed to have a guy like Smith as my goalie.

[Waivers] 29 players - Oct. 06, 2021
JayDangles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
My guess is they knew they were going to send Gadj down at some point, and knew they needed him to clear. What they didnt want was to play him too many games and "showcase" his skillset to the league. Thats why he sat out a few games. Now they can try sending him down and hope he clears. Once he clears he will be brought back and given more NHL experience. They dont want to lose him and are trying to manage that in the best way possible. -
[Waivers] 29 players - Oct. 06, 2021
JayDangles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
In reality, did anyone watch the game last night and think "I really wish Gadj was playing, that would have changed things"? Likely not. Nothing against the guy, but if he goes he goes. There have been a few other players in camp who have stood out more than Gadj. -
Any adult who choses not to get vaccinated, contracts covid and then passes it on to a child who cannot be vaccinated damn well should be charged! That is willingly and knowingly putting their health above those of others. That should be a crime. AND they should have to foot the medical bill. Ignorance is not an excuse sir... or madam

Not seeing people laughing, simply pointing out the irony of his poor decision making. The fact that anti vaxers were clogging up social media with their conspiracy dribble, and now they are clogging up emergency rooms and negatively affecting the lives and health of others is extremely infuriating. I for one am tired of people flaunting their choice to discredit and disregard the medical field and then turning to them for salvation when they get covid. Archibald should serve as a lesson to anyone still refusing the vaccine.

Robin Lehner Makes Some Serious Accusations
JayDangles replied to Thrillhaus's topic in General Hockey Discussion
This is such a loaded topic and Lehner has called out a few different things at the same time. Is there a difference between a coach offering a prescription ativan to a player experiencing a mild panic attack, and/or a coach telling players to take a pain killer and get back on the ice? For sure there is. Both not cool, but they have different implications and ramifications. He is casting a very wide net and lumping a lot of scenarios into it. While I believe their is misuse of prescription drugs and pain killers in NHL, it doesnt mean its a league issue, possibly a team or even individual issue. Also, something to note is I hear lots of times CDC complaining about players being injured and speculating on the seriousness of someone's injury. We all want players back on the ice and playing for the sake of entertainment. There's just too many variables to what Lehner is calling out. He is walking a very fine line IM -
[Report] Sam Bennett To Have Hearing
JayDangles replied to -DLC-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
IMHO it should be 3 games, but since its the playoffs and no injury on the play he will get 1 game. I expect Maroon will be trying to take a run at him next game because the DOPS wont have done anything to control the situation. -

Tom Wilson fined $5000... wait, what!?
JayDangles replied to elvis15's topic in General Hockey Discussion
You might be right, I mean wasn't a player suspended for spitting last year? That would fall under unsportsmanlike conduct, which also includes pulling hair. I've reviewed the rule book. Only thing it could fit under is "roughing" but the rule book specifically says that roughing can only be a minor penalty, not a major, or game misconduct, so definitely cant provide a suspension for excessive roughing. Maybe unsportsmanlike conduct for the hair pulling. I don't know where they could apply a suspension that would stick if challenged. That said, seems like there's an opportunity for the league to look at this and create some sort of new rule based on dangerous play under extenuating circumstances. i.e. "Where through a players deliberate dangerous action, another player sustains an injury that otherwise could have been avoided" You would have to further define "dangerous action", but this could be done. -
Tom Wilson fined $5000... wait, what!?
JayDangles replied to elvis15's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Ok just want to play devils advocate. I'm in no way defending Wilsons actions because it was gutless hockey, however I work with legislation all the time, and when it comes to laying a charge or fine, the action must clearly be in contravention to whats written in legislation. In other words, maybe the issue is there is no "body slamming" clause which can be put in affect. Maybe the DOPS hands are tied. Wasn't a hit from behind, wasnt a stick infraction, technically wasn't a hit to the head etc. The issue is if the DOPS suspended him 20 games because it was a dangerous play, Wilson's team will point to the rule book and say specifically what rule was broken, if no one can answer, then the suspension will be overturned in a blink of an eye. So again, not defending Wilson, just saying the punishment must fit the crime, maybe the issue is this particular crime isn't a crime because its not in the rule book as such. I'm speaking specifically on the Panarin incident -
I agree that initially the issues with Virtanen were based on his draft rank, however now I think most, including myself are just fed up seeing the same thing 5 years in a row. I could care less about where he was drafted. Now my issues are that Virtanen is inconsistent, a floater, soft, a defensive liability, attracts negative off ice attention, doesn't kill penalties, doesn't drive the net...Yes he does some good things, but nothing consistently enough for the coach or fans to rely on.. I'm over that.

This... Well said and worth reposting for you!
-
Take hitting out of training camp? Then you'd end up with a team full of Eriksons and playoff mode Virtanens! There are two separate non- issues connected here. #1 -Motte slew foots two of his team mates during a practice scrimmage. #2 - Gaudette took exception and a scrap ensued. Non-Issue #1 will be dealt with off the ice. Greener and I'm sure 1 or two guys in the room will say something, either in passing or directly. It will end there. Non-Issue #2 is fun for fans to discuss, but in hockey, down at ice level this is nothing. Notice how the team is tapping sticks and acting chill. This is nothing these fellas haven't seen before.

[PTO] Travis Hamonic with Canucks
JayDangles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
AND.. There was an article written maybe 2 months back about Virtanen spending every day at Myers' house exercising and working out. If Myers can actually have Virtanen in shape to start training camp, then this guy has done what no one else could! and the team will be better off for it. -
(Speculation) Pierre Luc Dubois May want out
JayDangles replied to Pears's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wasn't there a rumour with strong substance that during the draft Montreal really wanted PLD, and if he fell to Vancouver we were going to trade the 5th to Montreal for PK Subban? -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Jake Virtanen
JayDangles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I could not disagree with this statement more. JV was an utter disappointment this playoffs for someone of his frame, speed and shot. Yes, I remember the great defensive play, and yes I remember the lucky goal line goal. (I loved the goal, but lets not go overboard) Other than those two plays, JV was barely noticeable throughout the entire 16 game playoffs. Jake is a complete hockey tease. Either youre a huge supporter because you're addicted to the flashes of brilliance and pray that he will give you just a little more(but doesn't).. OR you are someone who is sick of the drama and just wants some consistency. Either way he leaves everyone wanting more. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Jake Virtanen
JayDangles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I think maybe you've miss-interpreted my intent. I don't think Virtanen needs to go. I'm actually on the fence about him still. My point was simply that I'm so tired of hearing all these excuses brought up everytime someone questions Virtanen's lack of production, or more importantly consistency. I can't think of another player at all, who got so much fan support and defense for mediocrity. Here we are calling for Sutter to be bought out and he out produced Virtanen in the playoffs, while winning faceoffs and having a big role on the PK. I just don't get why people defend him so hard and have this blind faith that next year he will turn it around or figure it out. At 24 he should know how to work hard every game and not take 10 games off here and there. At his age he should be showing up 9 games in a row (not necessarily producing numbers, but at least putting in the effort) and then faltering for a game or two, not the other way around. -
[Signing] Canucks re-sign Jake Virtanen
JayDangles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I feel I have to weigh in. Some of the comments defending Jake are so rediculous to me.. I mean how many excuses will people make to defend a player? -He hasn't been given consistent ice time in top 6 -Green is too punative. -Power forwards take longer to develop - He showed some improvement last year - His shoulder injury prevents him from being physical -World Juniors killed his confidence - He wasn't fat at camp. Man I haven't seen so many excuses used to defend a player production and lack of consistency. How about all the Jake supporters stop making excuses for him, and stop trying to nit pick everyone else's stats... And supply something real. Show something that shows/proves Jake deserves or has earned top 6 minutes. -
Except power forwards typically develop the other way. Players like Jamie Benn, Getzlaf, Perry, Tkatchuk (both) Anders Lee, they all had the physical element to their game before scoring, or as part of their scoring. Jake is the opposite, where he is scoring to a degree, but has no physical element. This type of player doesn't "develop" a physical element later, they either have it or they don't. Jake doesn't have it. His scoring could possibly improve, but his physical nature cannot be taught. Jake is not a power forward any more than Taylor Pyatt, big and fast on paper doesn't mean big and fast on ice.
-
Ok, But he isn't suited for bottom 6. He doesn't hit or provide energy, he doesn't kill penalties and the coach can't rely on him for consistency. Also, if arbitration lands him 3mil, then it makes no sense to keep him anymore. I'd rather make room for a 12-15 goal scorer who provides at least some of the above attributes required of a bottom 6 player, and be done with this saga.

Starting to dig real deep for new excuses for Jakes lack of performance. How long can the leash get?
-
I think it's funny that you just glossed over the biggest difference. Tuch has 7 goals... That's a lot more than Jake's 1 goal. So while they compare similarly in lots of areas, they are not providing similar team support. If Jake had 7 goals, many people would not be complaining about his lack of physicality, but he has 1 goal. Therefore he needs to get his sh!# Together and start throwing the body or rush the puck, or get in a scrum or do something, anything. I think it's time people accept the fact that playoff Jake was wishful thinking
