[PGT] Minnesota Wild at Vancouver Canucks | Feb. 19, 2020

Except he doesn't do those things. Not on the first line, and not on the third line. Yes JV strung together a solid 10 games, but the 40 before and the 10 after is where he is consistent. Perhaps.. and here's a shocker... Jake needs to earn his spot. If I can see his glaring lack of effort... Then Green definitely sees it. -

Don't worry, I think Jakes inconsistency and lack of motivation will keep his goals down. Not his lack of sheltered top line minutes -

Huh? That's not their role, that's the goalies job. . The other 5 players on the ice have a much broader roll, which includes: Not getting scored on Providing offence Forechecking Provided energy Standing up for teammates Penalty killing Power play Backchecking You see where I'm going with this? So I ask again, what is going with Rousel and Virtanen these days? I watched the game and I was daffled by V's backhand drop passes, lack of back check, lack of forecheck.. I was actually yelling at the tv for the first time in a long time. -

Little late to the party on the PGT, but have to ask What is going on with Virtanen and Roussel? They look so disinterested in not only playing for this team, but playing hockey in the NHL in general. For energy guys they sure know how to suck the life out of a line, and a building. I would not be sad to see either go in the next 4 days for any kind of physical improvement -
Now that Toffoli is on the top line, it requires a new name.

[Speculation] Stecher might be on the market
JayDangles replied to HerrDrFunk's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sorry, I'm not singling you out because many others have stated the same thing... but why does everyone think that Big Mac is a gritty forward with toughness? I haven't seen that at all from him. I know he dropped the mitts 6 games back, but since then he hasn't laid any noticeable hits, or got involved in scrums. In fact I see him more as a gentle giant with a good shot. I know he is a cheap option for size, but I don't see him as a "tough guy" in todays NHL -
[Proposal] JB not done!!!
JayDangles replied to captaincowbasher's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Ok fair. I can agree that while their contracts are both terrible, LE's does give a team an out this summer if he retires. This makes his contract less sh*tty. So, I think the real target is Wood, and I don't think he is equal to Stecher, -

I feel like you didn't even read the benefits. Yes to dump Loui we have to take on PK. That's how that works. If you ask me, PK is a better player than Loui will be for 2 more years. So if those 2 cancel each other out then great. If PK can increase his effort by 10% then that's a win. Then we are providing Demko and Stecher in exchange for Wood. Salaries cancel out. wood is more valuable than Stecher, by far, which is why Demko and a 3rd goes along too. Yes an overpayment, but Wood is signed for 2 more years at a good price, so that's the justification for the overpayment. Keep in mind Stecher holds less value than you think. At the end of the day, can you honestly say the team is worse with Stecher, Eriksson and Demko out, and PK, Wood in? -

Hold on here everyone... Honestly there is something that can work here. Put aside all preconceived bias. To NJD Eriksson Troy Stecher Demko 2021 3rd To VAN Subban 30% retained Miles Wood This deal happens for a number of reason. Moving Demko solves the expansion possible goalie issue. Adding Wood solves some of the toughness issue Swapping Eriksson for Subban solves 2 teams unmoveable contract issues, while at the same time filling voids As much as I like stecher, I still feel Subban is an upgrade, especially in the playoffs. -
I understand what you're saying, but the more likely reality is most people had no idea about Maddens upside and downsides prior to the trade, most people don't follow prospects too closely until they land in Utica, and even then. So the trade has given people a platform to voice their issues, but it doesn't mean those issues didn't exist prior to the trade. But all that said, I'm ok with folks rationalising a trade in order to put it in a positive light, it's way easier than listening to people rationalise it in a negative light.

It's not putting someone down when you point out the weaknesses that made a player a risk. These were legitimate concerns that many had with Madden, and people are highlighting them to show other's why this trade makes sense, and/or why Madden may not have ranked higher on JB's list. Putting him down would be saying "he's an a**hole who never liked Vancouver and talked smack about Fin, glad he's gone" If you see any of that you let me know, I've got an itchy confused face trigger finger today.
-
Please stop saying this. Madden is not the future, he is 1 person , someone who is undersized and low on the depth chart. Our future is OJ, Woo, Rathbone, Lind, Pod, Petey, Bo, BB, Miller, Hughes, Markstrom.. shall I go on? What did you expect JB to do... walk into the dressing room and say to the team "well guys, I know you played your hearts out, and have proved many wrong this year, but Brock hurt his ribs... so tough sh*t, I'm not going to replace him, looks like the seasons over boys, better luck next year" Come on, it's 1 trade and has way more upside than down. Get on the positive train Mr. Grumpy Pants.

Agree Alf, The benefit of having strong drafting and a large prospect pool is not solely so you can develop and have a bunch of ELC contracts.. it's also to have trade bait, desirable and disposable assets. Also, if that many teams were interested in Toffoli, and the trade deadline a week away, I would say JB was working in a high pressure situation. This is a very good trade for a high pressure situation.

One thing that was mentioned about 50 pages ago, and is worth repeating. Toffoli was being targeted by Calgary and Edmonton at the deadline. This made it more important that we got him, which ups his value slightly more. I'm very happy we picked up Toffoli, given BB's injury, a need for more top 6 scoring, and a risk of our division rivals getting better instead of us... this is a strong move.

[PGT] Anaheim Ducks at Vancouver Canucks | Feb. 16, 2020
JayDangles replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Everyone needs to calm down. Did no one watch the Calgary-Chicago game on Saturday? What a pathetic effort by Calgary. A team in a more desperate situation, a team we all fear in the playoffs because they play a big, in your face style of game... guess what? They don't. I too am concerned about the lack of pushback and intensity from our guys, however, this is very common throughout the league. For every big game a team has, big hits, couple scraps... 10 games go by with lack luster play. The Nucks are no different. The days are long gone where a team plays physical night in and night out. In the last 3 games, Gaudette, Virtanen, Myers, Miller and Pearson have all dropped the mitts. I know the nucks lack pushback, but I still feel it's living just below the surface, and given the right playoff atmosphere this team might shock some people. I'd hate to see Miller break his hand on someones helmet with only 15 games left in the season. Give these guys 1 playoff series, if you don't see what you're looking for, then sound the alarms. -
Kassian kick Cernak in the Chest - Now with Poll

If Kassian keeps up these moves, you're going to see Connor MacGreggor trying to set up an on ice full equipment ppv main event! Take my money! -

JayDangles replied to VegasCanuck's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I Like It! MMA! NHL is slowly moving to no hitting, no fighting... Players are forced to take their scraps to the matt and kick it out. I'm looking forward to seeing some sweet submission moves in NHL 2025! Kassian is just ahead of his time -
How long until Markstrom has proven himself?
JayDangles replied to The_Rocket's topic in Canucks Talk
Right, I get that's what we may have to do if we want to keep both goalies.. but honestly is that the right move? The direction this team is headed, we should still be a powerhouse for years to come with a #1 and a decent back up. Isn't it better player management to trade one for an upgrade on forward? I know it will sting, but too often the Nucks hold on to things too long, and end up losing out.
