  1. Right, I forgot that point production was the only measuring stick used to determine a defencemans value nowadays.....Yeesh.
  2. Thats the heart of my point.... Are they really "tougher"? or do they play tougher? Is Marchand tougher than Horvat, or Miller.. I don't think so.... So why does Boston play tougher and Vancouver doesn't? My answer is Green, from what I've gathered, your answer is that the Canucks don't play tougher because Ferland and Roussel aren't in the lineup.. well Guddy was in the lineup last year and we played even softer.... Honestly, the common thread is that Green simply does not give guys the confidence and the leash to go out and play tough hockey. You think guys like Benn, Myers, Edler, Miller, Schaller, etc can't lower the friggin boom on guys! So why don't they?
  3. I understand what your saying, and your reference to Probert etc. I dont disagree in principle.. But in todays NHL, team toughness doesnt necessarily revolve around a team having 1 tough guy that makes everyone feel tougher (Wilson, Ferland, Reaves etc.). I feel a team can have team toughness in absence of a true heavy/middleweight. Example Boston, Tampa Bay, Dallas, St. Louis... all teams in my opinion exhibit team toughness without having a bonifide guy who answers the bell. I agree that when Roussel and Ferland return the team will be a lot tougher to play against, but if Green doesn't let the dogs run, it wont change the teams identity. I guess time will tell once we're fully healthy.
  4. I think you misunderstood the difference between player toughness and team toughness. I'm not suggesting that Green is responsible for Horvat (or any other player) not becoming a "tough guy". Obviously thats not what anyone wants. I'm suggesting he is responsible for the lack of team toughness... which is the desire to stand up for your teammates, seek retribution, either immediately or later in the game, engage in scrums around your net to protect your goalie... a willingness to take your team off the powerplay in order to set an example. There are times when a team shouldn't do any of those things... and secure the 2pts... but I believe there are times where you do those things and the 2pts be dammed. IMHO I believe Green is an ok coach, but the lack of team toughness is on him.
  5. I posted this in another thread but likely more relevant here. I'm extremely frustrated with Green in relation to team toughness.. and i think if this isn't addressed, either through firing or a stern talking to by the GM, the nucks are destined to fail. After watching Green behind the bench for 2 full seasons.. I'm of the opinion that Canucks lack of push back and team toughness is 100% Green's coaching style. Keep in mind, with the exception of some European players, everyone else grew up playing hockey through the ranks in North America. The culture of hockey being a rough game where players engage in retribution, fighting, team strength, eye for an eye is well ingrained in North American hockey. The fighting might be dieing off, but the players don't simply lose the passion for physicality the second they make the NHL. This type of thinking is being coached out of our players. Green using terms like "hockey play" when Petterson is dumped to the ice is an example of whats going on in the room. Do i think Green is a bad coach... no... but is he responsible for the lack of pushback and team toughness? 100%. Guys like Horvat are all character guys...the fact that Horvat isn't preaching team toughness to his squad is not because he doesn't believe in it, it's because his coach doesnt believe in it.

  7. I suppose one can dream.... but really, no matter what hypothetical we spin... Erickson is Erickson's problem
  8. I dunno... I feel Guddy and Hathaway both deserve suspensions. but for different reasons. Of course what Hathaway did is terrible, gutless, gross etc.... but the zebras had his hands tied up while he was taking punches from Guddy... that has to count for something. Then Guddy, delivering a stiff jab to a guy whose hands are tied up is against the "code" and classless from a tough guy standpoint. Isn't there a rule about throwing punches once the linesman enter the scrap? Would like to see Guddy suspended 1 game, then I feel things landed where they ought to. Except for Marchand. guy is still a P.O.S. who doesn't deserve to where the NHL crest.
  9. Also, wtf is up with Nylanders head? He always looks like he's smuggling the team playbook under there. Or is it just me?
  10. Agreed. My general point was more.... Coaches/Bosses should always identify strengths and weaknesses, and put more emphasis on empowering strengths than fixing weakness. My comment wasn't in response to Green, it was in response to another comment which basically said Petterson needs to focus and be better at faceoffs. i didn't say I'm a better coach than Green, and I definitely dont work at MacDonalds.... not that there's anything wrong with that. A job is a job smart guy
  11. Personally I'm against taking our 2nd leading scorer and moving him to the 3rd line to babysit faceoffs. What does that say to Miller? i say reuinite the Lotto Line and let Miller take the draws, Petey is centre during play.
  12. Incorrect - As a Manager, I have taken many courses on how to get the best performance out of employees and coworkers. The fallacy is that if someone struggles with something they should work harder at it, when experience dictates that you should always play to peoples strengths. If someone is not good at something, it is usually because they do not enjoy it, or do not understand it. Forcing people to work on those things creates disgruntled and unhappy employees. Translate to hockey..... If Petey is bad at faceoffs.. don't have him practice faceoffs over and over. Play to his strengths, by doing so, he will focus on what he enjoys and is good at.. Scoring goals. For the same reason were not trying to turn Beagle into a 1st line scoring machine.... we don't try and turn your 1st line guy into a 2nd line faceoff expert. Just my 2 cents, coming from a method tested and achieved results.
  13. For me best signing this year is between Boeser and Edler's contracts. A healthy Edler 2 years @6m is a great signing when you considered NTC's, expansion draft, comparisons etc. He is playing like 2011 Edler.
  14. I think Petey is more likely to win a Selke than Bo. Not because Bo isn't a very solid 2-way forward... but Petey makes some amazing and noticeable defensive plays, while still putting up big numbers. Only knock is he doesn't kill penalties.
  15. Lotto Line Bra! Just let it happen, it feels good.
  16. Man when its all in front of you 2006-2012 was seriously some bad drafting/scouting..
  17. Exactly..... The top 6 is no longer full with Ferland out... so he will likely slot into Bo's line.
  18. They are out now! $30 on the team store for a t-shirt!
  19. Most likely a replacement for Ferland. Which is perfect, he can slide right on to Bo's line with Virt. Unless they decide to move Pearson up to 2nd line and have Sutter, Bear and Leivo as a line.
  20. Not calling you out, just using your post to provide context to mine. Although EP has 14 points, which I'm loving.... I am concerned that he's not smiling... when he scores, or gets a couple assists, there is no emotion whatsoever in his reactions. I feel like something is missing for him. I don't know if it's the coach, his linemates or something. Almost looks disappointed when he gets results. Is it me? Or are other people noticing this?
  21. Meh, 2 games is fine for repeat offender. Not a vicious hit, but a hit from behind none the less. I'm ok with it. Next!
  22. I don't think many people complained at all about the Ferland signing. Maybe if we had signed him at his 5.5 million original ask price... or if we gave him a full NTC. But Ferland at what we paid for him was a very good signing. 10 games on a new team, after coming off an illness, is not enough time to judge... heck the verdict is still out on Virtanen and it's been 4 years!
  23. Have you gotten enough enlightened answers to your ignorant question? I'll add another... The reason there's no "white person" night is because "white person" is not a culture, religion or race, it's a skin colour,... But I wouldn't be opposed to a Jamaican night, however it would likely be called Rastafarian night, not Jamaican night. Also, as referenced earlier in another post, a part of Diwali is knowledge over ignorance... you sir could perhaps benefit from a little more Diwali.
