  1. Not a terrible return to be honest. For anyone expecting more of a return for a rental players was likely going to be disappointed regardless. We have no centre depth, now we do. We have another 1st in a deep draft and Bouv can replace Boes or Garland when one of them gets moved at the deadline for a D man.
  2. I'm with you and all accounts except for only moving JTM if we get an incredible offer. In reality he shouldn't have been signed to that long term contract. If we get any offer whatsoever that doesn't handicap the team long term I say move him and use that money on other players yet to be determined.
  3. He will get there... But he does not need the burden of the C just yet. He is still rounding out his full game and doesn't need the responsibility of also carrying the team on his back when it's struggling. He needs a good mentor like Schenn to carry that load. Move Bo and go the rest of the year with no C, but give Petey an A and let him start to develop into the leadership role.
  4. I disagree that they have value in a trade. Isn't me saying dump them, the same as you saying trade them for garbage with the same cap hit? I mean, yes, they are tradable but not desirable. Boeser is drastically underperforming and not a lot of teams are in the market for dishing out $6m for a reclamation project. Miller is showing all kinds of issues compared to his upcoming contract. Pretty sure if the current group had any offers on the table to offload those cap hits they would have pulled the trigger already.
  5. If they resign Bo then I officially stop watching this team for 4 years. Management would be complete fools to think that resigning all your players for more money will result in a younger more competitive team. What we will have is exactly the same playerd, being paid more even though they are older. How could that possibly be a good idea. Didn't anyone learn anything from signing an expiring UFA (Miller) having a career year to a long term contract? Lol Step 1. Trade Bo, Step 2. Dump Boeser for anything Step 4. Dump Miller for anything Step 5. Draft some young players Step 6. Sign veteran UFAs to cheap short term contracts to help round out leadership during the next 3 years because they are going to be tough.
  6. Umm read comments from other coaches... No one else wanted the job!
  7. Honestly, did anything think the team would have posted a better result against Seattle under Bruce? With Marten in goal we are guaranteed to let in at least 5. A 6-1 defeat to a payoff bound team is exactly on par for this team.
  8. I disagree to giving it to EP40 just yet. one of the best way to stunt a players growth is to give too much responsibility too quickly. Sure there's a chance he will rise to the occasion, but it is much more likely that balancing too may balls results in dropping not juggling. Give EP 1 more full season. Would love to see where his ceiling really lies. Remember he is only 1 year removed from that terrible 26 game run he had to start last year. Imagine him trying to figure out his game while carrying the weight of the C? I know there's not really any other options though if we move Schenn and Horvat. Maybe no captain for the rest of the season to see who steps up?
  9. If... If... If.. Thats a pretty silly question in comparison to what I referenced. I don't "live by" those ethics, I evaluate a situation and make a decision based on fact and feeling. I'm a big boy able to put thought into things. If we were talking about prostitution then your question is valid, but just picking some other random crime and asking if it was the same situation is just silly., If youre asking me if I consider gambling as egregious or criminal as prostitution, murder, rape, kidnapping etc... then no. Because those are crimes regardless of who commits' them. Gambling is legal, and running a betting operation is legal for corporations, just not individuals. This isn't because of ethics, or legality, its about government collecting taxes pure and simple. In fact, the NHL has gone out of their way to support legal bookies because they now generate revenue. Sportsnet employs newly titled "Sports Betting analysts" to break down the odds. So don't act like what I said is the same as what your inferring. No, I don't view Tocchet as a "criminal" when he did the same thing that the River Rock does.
  10. He was convicted of a crime that is legal for major corporations in order to maximize money extraction from the masses and make sure government can collect taxes on it. To me he is as much a criminal as a person who sold or smoked weed the day before it became legal.
  11. I don't know if I agree. R.e whether JR did any coaching evaluations or went straight for Tocchet. This whole Bruce firing debacle really brought to light how little we know unless the media brings things to light, or reports their version of the story. Not defending JR, but I feel media made the whole thing way worse by constantly adding their own judgement publicly. That said, maybe they did interview other coaches and media simply didn't feed that to us. Also, I don't see anywhere where it says Tocchet was fixing matches. That's a federal offense and he would have seen significant prison time if that was the case.
  12. That, and some toughness. I don't expect him to scrap people. After all, he is scorer not a tough guy, but play physical in the corners, finish your checks, show the kids how to play hard hockey and make life a little more difficult for the opponent. Thats all i really want from him and many other guys. Take away time and space by being physical
  13. If new tough love leadership doesnt turn him around then nothing will. The dangerous game he is playing is if he comes out flying for the next 6 games. Hitting, being engaged at both ends of the ice etc. Then he shows the fans that he still has another level, which means he sets the new bar high and it becomes the standard. I will expect this from him moving forward regardless.
  14. Correct. Also whenever anyone brings up Tocchets "criminal" history it completely deflates their argument. Too much of that going on. Guy ran a small time sports book. Jeeze big deal. Look at all the gambling adds being shoved down our throats. The whole NHL is one giant sportsbook nowadays.
  15. I gotta admit. Tocchet is saying all the things I want to hear. He is talking about building "relationships with teammates" and that's non-negotiable. This is about team culture, chemistry and playing like a unit on the ice. I love it. He is talking about JT Miller and his emotions. Going to help him understand when the emotions are helpful and when they aren't . I think once people let go of all the sour grapes from the Bruce exit, they might be surprised at what a guy like Tocchet can do for this team.
  16. This is a very well thought out post and speaks to the game behind the game. Something us fans too often overlook when getting sucked into the drama of the media. While I like Bruce very much as a person, his coaching system wasn't working. Even if you look back to last year where we were winning games, so many of those came because of Demko outperforming and stealing games. I think management saw this and knew it wasn't sustainable. Is it all Bruce's fault? Heck no, the players on the ice have big issues. All that said, you make a very strong point about how our Vancouver media loves to blow things up, and the Toronto media love to pile it on when they have the chance. Bruce being let go made sense. Instead of speaking to this fact, the media sought out just the drama and disrespect being shown to him. This was real, but it wasn't the only part of the story. I'm hopeful things can quiet down now and we can just get back to hockey.
  17. Well all of Millers turnovers during man advantages are a big help too. Also his lack of effort on the back check.
  18. Disagree on skating hard and forechecking. This was another typical Miller night where he does the bare minimum until he feels like elevating. But often too little too late.
  19. Then he should play better. Notice he played like garbage in the first and second? Only after he scored did he finally start to skate. He should lead by example, not have temper tantrums
  20. It shows that during a team game when everyone is out there on the ice or on the bench, all he thinks about is himself.
