CSL Free Agent Frenzy Rumour Mill Hello GM's around the league! Free Agent Frenzy is upon us and we are just hours away from our first wave of signings. There are lots of rumours speculating on our top free agents and talks are heating up between teams and players. Lets take a look on some rumours that have generated throughout last night and today... 1. Eric Belanger The Scoop: Hearing Eric Belanger has already 5+ offers from teams. Hearing that Belanger will likely end up with a multi-year deal when all said and done. 2. Kimmo Timonen The Scoop: Kimmo Timonen has been a sought out after free agent. Hearing some teams have been offering "MAX" money and those offers might include term as well... 3. Mats Sundin & Keith Tkachuk The Scoop: Keep an eye on Columbus BlueJackets, I have been told they are a darkhorse contender to get both Keith Tkachuk and Mats Sundin. 4. Ville Leino The Scoop: Ville Leino has gotten a ton of interest, he may end up with a decently high cap hit. 5. Glen Wesley & Matheiu Schneider The Scoop: Hearing both Glen and Matheiu might ride off to the sunset and consider retirement if they dont get an offer they like. 6.Sami Salo The Scoop: Sami Salo has quite a few teams interested in him. Expect him to end in the Eastern Conference for that would be willing to literally give up their left nut for him. 7. Mats Sundin The Scoop: Mats Sundin has recieved at least 3 very strong offers, all from the Eastern Conference. 8. Trevor Linden The Scoop: Trevor Linden has generated a lot of interest around the league, but may end up staying out West at this point. 9. Johan Holmqvist The Scoop: Market on Johan Holmqvist is quiet. Suprising, considering the number of teams that need goaltending.

Montreal Canadiens Off-season News: Canadiens GM extremely happy to re-sign the core group of players heading into next season. They have re-upped new contracts to RFA’s Scott Hartnell, Chris Higgins, Cody McCormick and Mike Komisarek as well as re-signing pending UFA’s Andrei Markov, Roman Hamrlik and Marcus Nilson. “These players will be a key part of contending next season. With the group of players we have, they seemed to find chemistry second half of last season. So its important to keep everything the same and stay the course going forward”, says GM WWE40. One small trade had to happen in order to make cap room was trading away Craig Conroy to Tampa Bay for forward Niko Kapanen. “ Thanks to Tampa GM @Kurisu for smooth negotiations. Me and him are good trade partners since last season and he kindly took my generous offer . We had to go cheaper and younger route and Niko Kapanen became available. Hes a smart two-way defensive player, who will be used in critical situations this season, we believe he will be a vital player for us”, says Canadiens GM Montreal Canadiens also made some prospect signings, signing rookie goalie Carey Price and defensemen Matheiu Carle to ELC’s. “ Carey is pretty much ready to take the next step in his developement as he posted some incredible numbers in the junior league. He will start the season with the big club and we will see how things progress over the season next year. Having Chris Mason also helps as Carey can learn the ropes of how to be an NHL goalie on a day by day basis. Price is a big part of our future and we want him to be ready for full time role when his time comes”, says Canadiens GM. Furthermore, Montreal Canadiens will be naming a Team Captain and Assistant Captains for the upcoming 2007/2008 season. A lot has changed from their starting roster of last season till now, so having new leadership within the locker room is critical going forward. Expect the announcements to come soon.
