we're in need of an NHL ready, top 4 defenseman. D depth on the farm isn't that much of an issue right now.

I'm kinda hoping he sticks around for his senior year. It doesn't look like we're going to be shaking many defenseman contracts from the depth chart after this season.

with shore still around i'm hoping to see hutton at least succeed offensively on the power play. if he does that and gets big minutes defensively, that could still work out well for him.

maximum length is 2 weeks, not based on how many games. The comets play 6 games in that time so hopefully he plays all 6. Counting towrds his 9 games is a good question. To me, only NHL games would count because of the CHL/NHL agreement. But this is a fairly unique situation.

feels good having 1st round picks and other good prospects actually playing on the farm. we haven't had that in awhile; excited to see what some of these guys do this year.

Ok I have a theory. I'm sure everyone is familiar with hipsters. So, where I'm from, hipsters dislike widely accepted things just for the sake of being different. In Vancouver though, could people ask for stupid trades and such just to be "counter culture"?

Close, but NCAA athletes aren't allowed to accept any sort of gift with monetary value, nor are they allowed to be paid for their likeness (autographs, used jerseys, etc.) As amateur athletes it's against NCAA rules for them to be paid off of what's essentially a raised level of celebrity because of the fact they play for a major university. It's completely different than a signing bonus with a company because Demko doesn't hold an NHL contract. If he signed one tomorrow, he would never be able to get back his NCAA eligibility. This is why NCAA players miss training camp. It's considered a gift from their NHL team to bring them to camp and pay for whatever else teams traditionally pay for during camp. They could technically still come; but they would have to pay their own way. I personally think the rules are completely based in greed on the NCAA's part but as Jared McCann would say, "It is what it is."

I'm sure it's mostly due to the VAN/CGY rivalry but people are really over blowing Hartley doing some self defense training at practice. His explanation makes sense and I think it's actually a smart thing to do.

Woulda been nice to see him play but obviously that wasn't an option. Hopefully he tears it up for Calgary this year but it will definitely require him taking steps forwards without the solid linemates he had last season.

I hope he keeps up his faceoff rate in the pre-season. He's been a monster in the dot. can anyone find the clip of him facing off with Monahan in the Canucks D-zone? He absolutely dominated. Got inside body positioning and broke Monahan's stick to win the puck back. He looked like the bull Shawn Matthias reportedly described him as.

that's actually something I hadn't considered. With mcenenys situation next year being more fluid, sending him to junior is an easy way to get valk on the comets roster. Saves from making a tougher decision with a vet player. p.s. there i go turning every thread into a valk thread haha p.p.s i like how a lot of people are pulling for him now

I think this is best case scenario for him. He'll getlots of minutes with kingston. missed a full year of junior (except for the first 2 games) I think he's still got things to learn from juniors. It'll work out ok. his size and skill set are still desirable. let's see where he ends up after this season. hopefully will be coming off a dominant year!

^^^ MacKinnon and Landeskog were definitely ready as 18 YOs I'd say. Duchene and O'Reilly probably could have gone back to juniors. But it's just like you said, the Avs were not a deep team for several years.

Adirondack is going to be a handful for Utica this year. these flame's prospects are good.
