i haven't seen any indication hutton plans to do that. any prospect could wait out the signing period and go into free agency. that concern started in this thread just because he's an NCAA player.
yeah you've got it. but schultz leaving school early as a UFA is the key difference. like you said, it's cause of the extra year of junior he played. its my understanding that is where the 'loophole' comes into play.
not really though. schultz was a UFA after only playing 3 seasons of NCAA hockey. most guys gotta wait 4. thats why its considered him using a loophole where as hayes is doing something any prospect could choose to; no loophole there at all.
i thought at the very least we could have (or should have) gotten a bottom 6 roster player. Ryan Carter or someone like this. maybe a depth D. I dunno though. a Lu trade the season prior could have been made if it wasn't for the gillis/nonis pissing contest that was happening rather than ACTUALLY working out a trade. Horvat was a good safe pick though. Once he's a full timer and when the 'green' goaltending group we have gets more experienced, i think the trade won't look too bad.. who knows though. there will be plenty of us complaining about it for years to come
have to agree here. i really doubt we would have considered a fisher-schneider deal. even fisher in his prime (53 point season career high) i think horvat has a higher ceiling than fisher though; at least skill wise. if you don't let the horvat fan boys tell it, Bo has underrated hands.
all three move the puck well but I gotta think cassels has the edge there. Gaunce playing wing is a rather viable option, actually. i don't have the numbers in front of me but last season with belleville after he came back from injury he was playing wing and put up more than PPG numbers doing so. Scouts and analysts say he is better offensively on the wing as well.
i just don't understand how anyone ranked in the 6-10 range in this particular draft aren't "6th overall-worthy". to me, (if no one slips out of the top 5) getting one of ehlers, nylander, virtanen, ritchie, even fleury or kapanen would be a good use of our pick.
The U is about as solid as NCAA gets. I would advise the org to be as forward thinking as possible when it comes to players coming out of there. Looking at the percentages, we're due for a good player from the gophers
I'd like Utica's group to look like: corrado, huskins, blain, mceneny, biega, tommernes, andersson. maybe even bring back lepine or bushee for depth. depends on what happens in Van mostly though.
not sure if your serious. even if all 7 of those guys were NHL ready as soon as next season, how do we clear 7 roster spots for them? start trading guys away to do so and you'll probably end up with players more NHL ready than those guys.
he could still go to camp, but he would have to pay his own way for traveling, lodging, meals, etc. the NCAA rule prohibits receiving gifts from professional teams while in college; participating otherwise is allowed.
my wishlist goes like this:
1. any player that may slide out of the top 5
2. blue chip d-man (most likely fleury)
3. high end skilled player (ehlers or nylander)
4. power forward (virtanen, ritchie, perlini, mccann)
2 and 3 are pretty much tied in my eyes.
Glad to see he got the callup! I'd like to see what you guys think: does he go back to the O for an overage year next season? Or might he be ready to slot into the Comet's line up? keep in mind losing an entire season (only played 2 games) 2 seasons ago.
I'd like to see gaunce with the comets next year. hopefully in a top 6 role. i think he's got offense to offer; coach Green can get more out of him IMO.
I would think they do. They're playing for their league crown, finishing first in conference during the regular season would be equivalent to those trophies. As far as London goes, even though they have a guaranteed spot, they do have a OHL title to defend.
