  1. I don't quite know if I would go that far (my brother has aesbergers and I grew up with a couple of special needs kids), but he's definitely not hockey knowledgable.
  2. um.... okay then.... Sorry, I just can't take this kind of opinion seriously. It's like being in some world of ideals and pissed off at the weather outside not being sunshine and rainbows even when the weather's actually decent....
  3. Yeah, I tend to take anything he says with a grain of salt. I think it was TSN I saw him on one day and he made me switch channels. It was that bad.
  4. San Jose might take a step back too though. They lost Pavelski although they do have a seemingly neverending stream of young players able to take the place of the vets. Pavelski's going to be a hard one to replace though.
  5. Just a random thought on trading Eriksson to entice another team. I don't normally do this kind of thing but here goes.... Tanev happens to only have 1 year left on his contract and is injury prone anyway, so what about a package that involves both Eriksson and Tanev and we retain some of Tanev's contract? We're then only on the hook for 1 year retained. We'd probably have something come back the other way, perhaps something of reasonable value even, but it might be enough to actually get rid of Eriksson.
  6. Yeah, and it's not like the Raptors are even a bad team next year. lol
  7. I don't know if they would be bad enough to miss the playoffs, but they certainly wouldn't be a balanced team the way things look at the moment. I could see Dubas getting fired though if 1st round exists continue to be the norm.
  8. I wouldn't be surprised if we'd win the stanley cup and still have someone going "but we're not a good team for next year" or something silly like that. lol
  9. I think the worst part of it is how they'll likely loose a significant chunk of their blueline next offseason. It's literally just one season of being good. Then what?
  10. I'm not actually worried about our division. I am however more worried about the central division. All of the teams in the central division either look solid or made moves that improve themselves (outside of Winnipeg, who still is arguably good). We might have a better chance at 3rd overall than we do the wild cards in my opinion.
  11. What I am saying is focusing on the minority of players that don't have "family values" is kind of silly because it has nothing to do with the overall picture of things. That being said, I did focus on you saying "most" players and not "many". Even then though, "many" is going to be subjective, especially when there are many more that have family values.
  12. So your "proof" is to list off a bunch of bad apples as I expected (thus my second sentence so that if you posted like this it would prove jack all). Tiger Woods isn't even playing a team sport and more professional golfers have wives and kids and everything else. Even in the team sports. Look at Curry with his wife always being in the public eye. Look at the countless deals that are made based on family. The 1% that you've given as "proof" is just that: 1%.
  13. I don't really know how Miller, Myers, and Ferland fit into the same category as Eriksson? Perhaps I'm misreading what you've said, but even comparing Myers at 6mil to Eriksson at 6mil: at least Myers fills a void and is younger. Eriksson arguably didn't even fill a void.
  14. Prove it. There will be some "bad apples" but that's not typically the majority of them.
  15. Obviously, everyone other than you cares about that.
  16. The way I see it, it's about opportunity. We don't really have control over opportunity, so the next best thing is to have an idea in place and know when those opportunities arise so that they can be taken advantage of. Sometimes the opportunities will be few and far in between. Other times, it will all happen at once. Timing is also key in my opinion. Last year, we didn't know what to expect from Pettersson. He could have been just a top 6 forward for all we knew. Would it have made sense to trade for Ferland at that point? (as an example anyway) Until you know what your actual core is, how do you know what players to compliment that core with? In my opinion, we've had a good off-season since the opportunities have been there and we've jumped on them. We're not all in like Toronto. We're not unbalanced like Edmonton. We actually have a good team and Benning has signed a solid contract. A 27 year old for 4 years at 3.5 million is a great contract.
  17. It's far more realistic than assuming they will have a worse season.
  18. At least Sutter brings a defensive game. Despite him being overpaid, he does have a niche, unlike Eriksson.
  19. They probably weren't available. Opportunity is key and never something you have total control of in my opinion.
  20. Honest, at this point, I'll be sorely disappointed if Benning isn't still here in a couple of years. This is what I asked for and I think I even had a couple of posts a few years back where I said I wanted a GM here longterm. Aside from a mistake here and there (and what GM doesn't make mistakes), there's nothing I can see that should indicate he should be gone any time soon.
  21. Hey guys, should we have Pettersson or Boeser on the lineup?
  22. I was about the say the exact same thing. lol Who in their right mind would argue against having both? That's what I don't get.
  23. And then there's Ottawa.... yeah... probably best to leave that one.... lol
  24. I actually got a warning just for disagreeing with someone's opinion there. It was the first post I ever made. I didn't even attack the guy. I just said why I disagreed. lol
  25. We got 81 points last year without these signings and we've improved our team in the skills department since last year. 81 points is nothing to sneeze at and is a lot more than people expected at the start of the year. So I don't really see where you are coming from in this. Can our defense improve? Of course, but consider that Toronto's defense last year, if take out Reilly, is worse than how our defense is looking this coming year (at least in my opinion on paper. If it's not better it's still pretty similar overall). Toronto hasn't been in a rebuild for a couple of years, All of what you are saying here, to me, is more about the fine-tuning after the rebuild. To me, the rebuild is about bringing together your core and then after you see where you need to work on and gradually fix those problems whenever the opportunity arises.
