[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
The Lock replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If Benning actually gets ANYTHING of value back for Eriksson, he's doing well. If he gets back something that actually helps us, he deserves a parade at that point in my opinion. lol -
And this is why you don't trust someone who expects themselves to still be here when it happens in an industry practically based on firing GMs and coaches. Anyone who's buying that he'd fight it after 10 years is so gullible that I have a piece of swampland for sale.....

Is the Toronto management trainwreck Oilers 2?
The Lock replied to *Buzzsaw*'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
I don't think the Toronto management is good at the moment. Dubas seems to be way too loyal to his players which is kind of similar to Holland in Detroit. When being loyal works it works, but you have to have a balanced team before you can do that in my opinion and Toronto doesn't have that balance. That being said, I don't think they're going to be Edmonton. That would be just "wishful thinking" on an "enemy fan's" part. Toronto will likely be a playoff team for a long time. They real question to me is will management there get their act together and balance the team while they have that opportunity. -
I could argue that there's not necessarily a lot of time between the stanley cup, the draft, and free agency. There's pressure there too. I mean look at Toronto and the Marleau trade. If that's not pressure I don't know what is. lol It's funny you mention your side of it because I tend to find the trade deadlines underwhelming. Maybe it's because of the media over-hyping it all, but usually the GM's have a month or 2 up until the deadline to make decisions. Sure, there's the teams that need to decide if they are buying and selling, but how it that any different in terms of pressure to make certain trades at the draft or before free agency? I think there's pressure in general, no matter the time of year. For some GM's even August might be pressure when they have arbitration and guys they haven't signed yet. lol
-
I honestly don't see how you've proven that. You've given me a couple of bad trades that happened at the deadline and called it a day even though there are similar trades that happen during the summer. I think they are comparable since there can be pressure (or a lack thereof) at either the deadline or whenever. It's all situational, from the situation of each team to how well GMs handle pressure. I just don't see how it's that different between the deadline and the summer when there are so many more factors involved. Basically, I think you're trying to oversimplify something that shouldn't be oversimplified.

Here's the way I see it.... Is Myers the ideal defender for us? Probably not and anyone looking for "perfect defender" (because they live in some fantasy world) would complain until they are blue in the face if we sign him. Does Myers provide something we don't have? Yes. He does have a physical game that we do need. It's not the greatest game, but it's still an improvement over what we have. I still think he's a long toothpick on the ice but that's a story for another day. Would signing Myers be better than not signing anyone at all? Probably, provided we don't overpay.

I just want a good team. Canadian, Russian, Brazilian, Egyptian, Antarctican, Marsian. If it makes for a good team I'm all for it.

With this, I want to point out the way I see it. There's a risk no matter what we do. If we chose not to do anything, there's a risk that we don't improve since we didn't go out and make the bold trade. There's a risk with every draft pick. There's a risk all of our players get injured and we have to call up beer leagers to play (exaggeration obviously but I hope you understand what I'm saying). My thought with going up in the standings is, if we don't go up the standings, if could also mean we didn't do enough. At that point, we should have made perhaps even BOLDER trades, or more bold trades like the one we just did at the very least. Another thought would be we didn't do the right trades, which is also possible although dwelling on that is almost pointless as then we need to ask "what are the right trades" and I don't care who you are on these forums: none of us know that answer. So with most deals, I tend to shrug things off, not because I'm a homer, but because I need time to think about the trade and the reasoning behind that trade. If I see a reasonable thought process with it, then I'm fine with it. I can honestly say I'm fine with this trade because I think we're out of the rebuild at this point. This trade is almost like a statement that says the rebuild is over, or, we can at least start thinking more than just the draft. Our players, like Horvat, who has been waiting patiently, eventually need to reach the playoffs and, if we don't, we have much bigger problems than not having that 1st rounder.
-
Personally, I just don't dwell on things. Everything happens for a reason, usually multiple reasons. The GM's aren't dumb I think we're just not used to pulling a major trigger like what we did a couple of days ago. I mean, arguably the last time we really had something like this happen was probably when we traded for Luongo. If not that, then when we drafted the Sedins. It's been a long time. Given our team's projection over the next couple of years, I would say the most likely scenario is the pick isn't a lottery pick. Perhaps it may seem like a bold prediction as people here seem to expect the worst all the time but we only need to be above half the teams in the league for that to happen and, if last year's any indication, we have a lot more drive in games than a lot of other teams.

Canucks reveal new jerseys for 50th season
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
You're not helping yourself by calling me names. lol -
It's funny really. Most media and sources I've heard and read outside of Vancouver are actually saying it's a good trade for Vancouver. The only people who are getting upset at this are the fans who have no faith in this team it seems. I might take a break from the forum though. I can only read so much hate from people who aren't even being realistic about what that 1st entails before going mental. lol
-
Probably depends on what game you are looking at to be honest. Every now and then he has a stride, but most of the season he tends to just skate around in my opinion, especially near the end of the season.
-
And that's fine. That's the drive the team should have even during a rebuild and, thankfully, it appears to be the drive the team has. They play hard every night despite losing which is a really good sign of things to come. Unfortunately, Eriksson has been the opposite. He's looked like one of the most demotivated players in the entire league the past couple of years. While I can understand him not being happy, it is still up to him to want to try and win, but that's not really how he's played. This is why we are in the situation we are in. Ultimately, as a player, you are in control of how you play and whether or not you have determination each game. If you don't then don't expect sympathy if you complain about the coach. lol
-
Except the players do know that Green will back them up. He's on the media all the time defending players getting hounded by the media. The players need to also deserve to be defended. If you don't put in the work, why should you be defended?
-
The change of it being a lottery is slim to be honest. Perhaps you don't know the detail of this trade but if we make the playoffs within 2 years, it's not a lottery pick. We have a team already showing flashes of being good despite a lack of defense, etc and we literally just added to that in adding Miller. So the scenario you are suggesting is the least likely scenario because clearly we are being very aggressive on getting better. If you don't think this is the case then I have to ask: why do you cheer for this team if you can't see any good in it?
-
The way I see it, this is one of those trade we won't know if it was good or not until a couple of years down the road; therefore, to really say it's a bad trade now is rather premature. There's a fair bit of flexibility in that 1st round pick and not really the pressure for us to make the playoffs next year since we can keep next year's pick if we don't. And, if we don't make the playoffs in a couple of years, then something unexpected happened along the way. That's when we can say the trade faltered. However, given how well the team has developed so far, how likely do you think that's really going to happen? My biggest issue here are people who are basically throwing this trade under a bus when they are also the same people saying Benning needs to make moves. This ends up becoming one of the most hypocritical fanbases in the NHL since we basically have people who are afraid of us actually becoming a better team. If you want a better team, these are the kinds of moves we need to make now and then. I'm actually happy we are able to do this finally because a move like this would have made no sense even last year. This is how far we've come, so instead of crying about it, why not embrace that we might actually have a good team going forward? That's what I don't get out of this. People are afraid yet they want things done. It makes no sense.

Canucks reveal new jerseys for 50th season

Well considering I asked you nicely and you just replied immaturely, I think it's pretty easy to see who actually needs to grow up here. -
I didn't realise the letter C meant defenseman. What sport are we watching again? He's a center. lol
