  1. I don't know if we'd be free of cap waiting 1 year. It just would have been a little different than it is now, but still needing to sign key players.
  2. If you expect Poolman to equal Tanev or Schmidt, that would be the bargain of the decade for us given how little Poolman makes in comparison to those 2. I think the problem is we're so close to the cap that we can't really afford Tanev let alone Schmidt at this point. I don't know if Poolman was the right answer or not, but I also don't think he's a bad player either.
  3. Agreed. I think a good example of this would be how none of the players in Edmonton had drive for the longest time. I don't know how (or if) there was drama there, but they certainly kept going through coaches like a revolving door for a while. I honestly kind of hope the locker room issues aren't as bad as the media makes them out to be because, if this is the case, we might be having trouble for a long time.
  4. I'm fine with most of that except I think it was time for OJ to move on. If he stays in the NHL long term then good on him as then clearly he will have worked extra hard to get and retain that job from being injured so much. However, that's also the problem with us keeping him: it would be based on that small chance that this actually happens.
  5. He seems too cocky for his own good. Just the wrong mentality to be able to keep a job at his current skill level in my opinion. At least that's what it seems like to me outside looking in. It's kind of similar to Ho-Sang perhaps (albeit maybe not as extreme).
  6. It's not the worst jersey I've seen at least. It's certainly not good though at the same time. lol This seems more like a lame attempt at a "retro-looking" design that's neither original (ie. Chicago's black jersey already exists) nor good looking (the word "Jersey" seems out of place and the red seems random with the way it is). I think the sad part is they could do so much with the idea of the "Devils". It's not like the Canucks where we're limited in what we could have unless if we get super creative.
  7. Anything's possible at this point. There may be some truths out there but there will also absolutely be falsehoods made up at the moment. So I'm kind of on the fence with everything while likely assuming anything that comes out of people's mouths is made up until confirmed. lol
  8. I honestly hope it's not Babcock. He'd literally be the 1st coach I've ever been against before even being in a game for us. Just too many accusations in my mind from former players under him for those accusations to not have at least some truth to them. Like please. Any coach but him. lol
  9. I'm honestly going to disagree on this. I don't see the thought process before hitting the keyboard. For the record, almost anyone here, even people who I don't agree with, I respect. This is not about someone having a different opinion. This is about going too far in my opinion.
  10. Honestly. I 100% second this. These are some of the worst posts I've seen on this forum EVER. lol
  11. This is an extremely poorly worded question: "Do you trust Jim Benning to make a major trade right now?" The question is not asking if you trust Benning. The question is not asking if you want a big trade. The question literally asks something EXTREMELY SPECIFIC, so no wonder 94% of the fanbase said no. If anything, this tells me Donnie and Dahliwahl don't know how to make a poll that's unbiased and gives us a clear picture. I'm not surprised the op chose to post this though. Anything to post propaganda right? Also, I want to point out I'm not against letting go of Benning. I just think this thread and poll are stupid for the above reasons I mentioned.
  12. This is one I'm actually surprised is being waived. I would be surprised if he isn't picked up.
  13. Yeah. I think it's really hard to tell what's going on at this point. I don't know if there's anything that could surprise me at this point. I might not agree with what ends up happening if it ends up being a rushed decision, but I won't be surprised by any action or inaction.
  14. Yeah I'm fine with him gone, so long as we get a better GM. Not that I would expect people to not want a better GM if they wanted Benning gone, but sometimes I see arguments on this forum that are just.... not well thought out? This is especially in case when we're going through times like now.
  15. People need to realise that we're the ones kind of desperate at the moment if this trade is made. All this talk about "non-starters" because Fiala's just another winger... I don't see how we can expect anything better at this point. This is why these trades should not be made in the 1st place, because it's unlikely we're going to get that "perfect player" that we want in this case. This is one of those EA NHL game threads where everyone's expectations are of a game and not reality.
  16. I read the title as "Will Benning trade 22 1st round picks". Part of me laughed. Part of me when "well.... maybe?..."
  17. He's been slowly getting better now, but that's not why I'm responding here. I think overall, it shouldn't matter what others are doing. Everyone is different and to expect one player to react to a new system like another player is kind of unfair. Perhaps you weren't intending on your statement sounding like that, but I personally don't like comparing one player to another in that manner. Look at Schmidt last year, it took him all season but he seemed to be alright near the end if I remember correctly. (Which is ironically still comparing players but... yeah... hopefully you get my point lol)
  18. I did not say every time. I said at least point out some of his quotes. Seriously, how hard is it to watch a video and write down an exact quote or 2 of what he's said and THEN give us your interpretation? Like it's 5 minutes of workn max. lol Anyway, I'll stop pestering you. I'm just tired of people pretending to debate thinking their interpretation is somehow what's actually said.
  19. At least point out some of those quotes. All you're doing is saying "just watch the video".
  20. No. This is your argument. Grab it. If you keep just making claims without proving, that's the classic "I don't actually know what I'm talking about" thing to do. Grab the quote.
  21. Go and grab what you are quoting. This is on you bud. Also, I'm not for or against what you are saying. All I want to see here is integrity in an argument.
  22. Honestly, I say quote Benning if that's the case. Like literally grab the quote he is "repeatedly saying". If what you are saying is true, that should be easy as pie. The evidence is literally 2 days old. Should be easy. And if you can't do that, well then it's known you're lying.
  23. I don't know. I think his words at this point were so cryptic anyone could make out whatever they want from it and base it on their own opinion. Truth is, we don't really know what's going on behind the scenes at the moment and I don't think it really does any favours to pretend we do. Peronsally, I'm not really for or against things here. I just want a team that is playing better than it is now and I don't really care how that happens.
  24. They are the exception to the rule because there are many more players who are given the chance and don't succeed. Don't forget about the Veys, the Hawrlyuks, the Goldobins, etc. There are far more of those situations where the players are given a very good chance but just don't succeed than there are the ones who actually succeed such as Horvat. While I understand what you're saying about Gadj not being given a fair shot, I also hope you aren't expecting him to turn into another Horvat because, like I've said, those outcomes are not common at all. I get the frustration, I really do, but let's not be unrealistic about this at the same time. Two years ago, it looked like Gadj wasn't even going to make it at all. Overall, it sucks what happened to Gadj, but to compare this to someone like Horvat is it's own silliness in my opinion.
  25. Of course. The premise is there and I see what you're saying. I just think looking at just the defenders when it seems like best player available is the key is probably not the most optimal way of looking at things. That being said, it doesn't change how he's been in the draft overall.
