But if you are going to say it's the best case scenario based on your opinion, you are 100% unrealistic since you're putting an unrealistic wall on possibilities that are possible no matter how remote of a possibility they are. If you are talking about your hope, that's another matter and you're entitiled to your opinion there, but don't mistake hope and opinion with fact.

For those who say it's been 8 years of Benning...
The Lock replied to dougieL's topic in Canucks Talk
I agree with what you are saying; however, devil's advovate here... I do want to point out that, as soon as he tried to draft a good defenseman he drafted Juolevi who had a lot of injuries but did look like he was going to be good originally. How one feels about Juolevi is another matter, but it shows that it's better to draft best player available, which for us has been more forwards than defense. -
This isn't the best case scenario. Best case scenario is we win the cup. It's an unlikely scenario and I'm not saying that's going to happen, but it's still possible with enough luck and momentum. This is the case with any team in the league, just some teams' chances are miniscule compared with others.

Didn't we have almost this exact thread last year by the same OP? Didn't we also have almost this extra thread the year before that by the same OP? I get the frustration, but I'll say similar to what I said last year: this thread seems pointless to me... like less points than our team has at the moment...

One thing I will do is online gaming, specifically playing mmorpg's. I've found that if I find the right group to join in those games it can help ease times of lonliness in real life. It's never completely fixed things for me, but it does help. Plus, I can get an escape from real life through the game. I know that there are people out there who think this doesn't count as a social life, but honestly I say don't listen to those people since they're likely judging something they've never experienced themselves. They're judging what is effectively unknown to them.

[Report] Sharks claim Jonah Gadjovich off waivers
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don't see how what you're saying proves much of anything. A lot of players start on the 4th line. Some make it while many more do not. Comparing Gadj to 2 exceptional players (who are really the exception to the rule) says absolutely nothing since all you're doing is selectively picking a small sliver of context and ignoring the full picture. It's like if I told you someone with 1 post on this board was going to be a good poster because we have people like Vintage who started with 1 post.... like what? lol -
I really think he's one who could really develop to the next level beyond expectations, which is kind of refreshing. If there's one thing fans are good at, it's having high expectations to the point where they end up never getting fullfilled. This seems to be the opposite of that.

Depends on the Bowman you're talking about. With Stan, I honestly think he was overrated given the nucleus of the team was handed to him on a silver platter and he ultimately signed contracts that would eventually catch up to him. That being said, he did keep things going a while at least. Overall, I think he was an average GM, but that's my opinion and we're obviously allowed to have differing opinions.

The thing is, it's only really been this year so far (and last year on the powerplay) where they've been "spectacularily" failing. Right now, we're well below the league average in PP% and PK% which everyone knows at the moment. However, last season, our PK% was on par with the league, maybe ever-so-slightly under it. The year before that, we were ahead of the league average in both of those categories. So this whole notion of us being bad at special teams is relaively new. If it had been going on longer than I would agree with you, but it hasn't. Last year was pretty much a write-off with the start we had and then getting covid (like no team should have to go through covid like that) so I think some slack needs to happen there. Moving forward, we'll see how Green reacts to things, but keep in mind your scenario your describing is probably a lot more recent than you think.
-
Well, if the evidence is in the special teams, perhaps that's more on the assistant coaches? I know a lot of people don't like our assistant coaching staff at all and I don't think everything should be exclusively on the head coach. Likewise, it might have not been AV's doing with the Rangers. I remember times when he was here when people hated AV. lol

Bylsma wasn't the only coach to almost get a 0.500 with Buffalo. In fact, over half their seasons in the past 10 years either was close or exceeded Bylsma's record (this includes Bylsma of course). Not only that, but I could then also make the argument that Johnston and Sullivan pretty much matched what Bylsma did in Pittsburgh and Sullivan was our assistant coach behind Torts. So I tend to disagree that it's all the coach in terms of getting the most out of the team in every single case. I think there's a lot more to things than what meets the eye. Keep in mind I'm not saying Green is a good coach. I'm just also not saying he's a bad coach because we don't know what he's like on a good team. And speaking of a good team, while what you say is true about our team, it's all on paper at the moment. It doesn't really consider our players needing more time to develop, which I think's a strong possibility. There were also a lot of changes over the summer with a lot of the leadership gone over the past couple of years. Is that really Green's fault? (Editted for accuracy. Made a mistake 1st paragraph)
-
I don't know. WD had vets who were arguably still good whereas Green has good players on paper but are still developing. You can kind of make an argument for either or having the better team and not be wrong either way. Green's team has the potential to be the better team in the end but, like I said, they're developing. So I don't know if it's really that fair of a comparison when each coach was clearly in a different situation altogether. Edit: I also want to point out that I don't think that 1st year WD had was a fluke so much as more of a remains of a past Presidents' Trophy winner at their end. Not saying WD was the reason for that season but more the players on that team. I'm kind of neutral on my stance of Green and WD anyway since, like I said, it's juist not a good comparison in my mind.

His coaching record's pretty much with us though. While I agree he's probably kind of stale for us at the moment, I don't know if he's a bad coach because his sample size in the NHL is literally....just us...
-
The weird thing is, on paper, our forward group should be solid in the goals department, but they're not.

Scotty Bowman is 88 years old and his son Stan signed great contracts such as Keith and Seabrook!

I threw up a little inside reading your post...
