[Signing] Flames sign Jacob Markstrom
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah. It's strange because that's what you're implying with this. This is what YOU are suggesting with all of this because that's the only logical way your scenario would happen. You literally just agreed with me that your argument is flawed. lol -

I don't think shots really matter when determining this though. If the number of shots is the problem that's on the defense. That's not Green "overplaying Marky". That's just Marky getting a lot of shots on net due to poor defense. Also, what do you expect Green to do anyway? Pull Marky halfway through even if he's playing well just because of the shot total? Demotivate the guy when he's playing well? Play him less games even if he doesn't mind playing more games? Perhaps the most important question: have you ever asked Marky if he felt overworked or heard of him being overworked? If he doesn't feel overworked then that means you're literally just making stuff up. -
I don't really see how any of what you said changes what I've said. Plus, with the Sportsnet comment we're literally just talking about a single season and we have obviously made a lot of changes since. Noi only that, but I honestly think if what you say is true, does that mean we need to completely regut the team again without giving what we have a shot at least? There's a reason why I take such mumblings with a grain of salt, because the implications are a lot bigger than what people think in my opinion since small changes apparently don't change things.

Markstrom played no more than 60 games a season under Green. That's a pretty average workload for a starting goaltender in the NHL. Where in that do you claim that Marky was ridden hard? Calgary looks to also be playing Marky the same amount this year given he's played 6 games already. -

Just know that seeing things in one place does not mean every other place is going to be the same. If your scenario turned out to be true and was rampant in the NHL, we would be seeing more cases like what we're seeing in Chicago. The fact that we're not seeing such things eventually go public means that your scenario you're describing is highly unlikely to have happened. It's one thing to be cynical, but keep in mind cynicalism can also lead to unfounded paranoia. -
I guess what I'm getting at here is I bet in about 10 years there will probably be fans saying the exact same thing about Green as you are right now about AV. For the record, I get it. It's about the heat of the moment and where we are at now, but the problem with that is there ends up being tunnel vision in my opinion. It's kind of like how after a relationship when it's only after a while when you're truly able to reflect on if it was a good or bad relationship.

This makes no sense at all and if this is what you are betting on, I don't advise you on take up gambling as a hobby. lol -
Not really. This article says otherwise: https://www.nhl.com/news/facts-and-figures-vancouver-canucks-winning-streak/c-313502656 Our longest winning streak was 10 in 2002, long before AV (thus, AV's never pulled out a 10 game winning streak). The article also clearly debunks Green at "4 games tops". To be fair, winning streaks like that in the NHL don't really grow on trees anyway.

I don't know. I look at teams like Buffalo and how well they've been doing and think about how unlikely they are to continue doing well. I think the opposite could be thought of with us. Remember when AV was coach and every season ended being a slow start for us under him only to win the Presidents' trophy later? Obviously, the Presidents' trophy is unlikely for us, but it goes to show how little the 1st 10 games of a season means when it comes to the overall picture.
-
I remember to when AV was our coach and people were having the EXACT same complaints about AV as people seem to have about WD, or at least similar. It seems like every coach we get people will complain about the systems, who gets played more, what line-juggling happens, etc. And I 100% guarentee whoever coach we have next will fall under the same scrutiny, good systems or not, including Boucher if this became reality.

Seriously? Do you actually think an NHL coach would purposely play one of their goalies to get them injured? I think you're playing us so that our brains get injured at this point. -
This seems to me more like a random rant than an actual truth. Like others, I would like to know where you are getting this information since, if this is just your opinion, it's quite possibly one of the most unfounded opinions I've come across lately on this board if all it is is an opinion. (Also don't even bother if you think your opinion is fact. I have little time for egos. Give actual evidence)

I agree with what you are saying. The problem is I have a hard time seeing Bettman actually stepping down. He's there on behalf of the owners, not the players. Anything in regards to "being there for the players" has seemed more like it was there because it also benefitted the owners. That being said, given who has stepped down or been fired so far does at least give a bit of hope to me. It's not nearly enough with what needs to happen though and it's evident to me that certain parties are looking at this as more as an "inconvenience" rather than a problem.... which is also part of the problem. For example, the ONLY reason why Chicago's doing what they are doing is because it went public. They had 10+ years before this and did absolutely nothing which is the sickening part.

I don't know. I kind of think that if we claimed someone like him, it'll turn into a Megna situation all over again being in the lineup every night while underutilizing Bailey and Podkolzin even more. lol
-
Actually, to add what I just said, it's even more amazing reading press releases from the people involved as recently as the past couple of months. Like people literally had the ability to come clean about things and "look better" than they do now, but even when presented with that opportunity, they still failed.

[Waivers] Cory Schneider, Kyle Criscuolo
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'm not saying this wasn't the case. I was explaining why New Jersey would have been willing to give up that 9th overall pick. They were desperate. This also coincides with what you've said. -

It's all situational. Put yourself in New Jersey's shoes at the time. Brodeur's career was coming to the end and they had no one to replace him. So while it's not common for a 9th overall pick to be used on a goalie, most teams aren't usually in such a dire situation that New Jersey was in at the time. It made perfect sense for New Jersey at the time. As a result of this, New Jersey should have been in a more desperate situation and it could be easily argued that we might have been able to capitalize on that desperation a little more. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure Gillis would have also been in a desperate situation himself given it was his last draft. -
For sure. I'm not worried. I think part of the whole point of my post was to say not to worry at this point. lol People seem quick to point blame if they don't see him in the lineup just yet. I'm quickly getting reminded why I'm often not on this board during the start of each season. Simply put, some fans are a little mentally insane. lol
-
It's still a different game over here though, so to expect him to actually feel comfortable over here is still going to be a tall order. Simply put, the NHL is not the KHL. It's still that higher tier. This is evident by the number of Russians who come over here, seemingly expect to play well out of the gate, and then don't.

Is Pettersson not the same player we expect him to be?
The Lock replied to b3nnyb's topic in Canucks Talk
He's 22 years old. He's a kid. Give the kid time to develop. Not every superstar becomes a superstar overnight. We know the potential is there. We just have to let him develop. I also want to point out that players like MacKinnon took a few years before they became elite. Even the Sedins took a few years before that became elite. Other elites like Joe Thornton took a few years as well. This isn't an uncommon occurance.
