Have you been vaccinated (Part Deux as of Sept 25, 2021)?
The Lock replied to Gawdzukes's topic in Off-Topic General
It shouldn't matter about the government though. People are so focused on that when really it should just be a no brainer to get the vaccination. If the government wasn't a factor at all and it was all about simply not getting Covid (which is how it should be), wouldn't it make sense just to get the vaccination so that you are wrecking all of this for the people who have already got the vaccination? Literally, ignore the government. Think about how much the anti-vaxxers are failing the majority of people who have got vaccinated. We all want this pandemic gone, but too many make it political, when it's really shouldn't be. I am happy to be able to go to bars and not have to worry about some shmock who doesn't believe in vaccines. I for one am thankful we have this mandate because otherwise we'd still have this pandemic in 2025 just because some people are easily swayed by teh internetz and want to talk about "their liberties" while ripping away the liberties of others. -
The media will blow everything out of proportion so long as it gives them attention. It's why I've mostly just ignored anything the media has thrown at us about the contract negotiaions. Even Jack Hughes' comments were blown out of proportion since we actually were a bad team the past while (or at least in a bad spot due to the events that transpired).

[Signing] Canucks sign Tucker Poolman
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah people need to learn to give players they don't know a chance rather than just talking like they know what they're talking about. I just don't understand why people need to get their panties in a knot when they clearly have no clue what they're talking about to begin with. If Poolman turns out to not be a good defenseman after a while, then sure: attack at that point. I'm not against that, but there's no point in attacking a player or contract when nothing is known about that player. Maybe Poolman turns out better than we ever hoped and the contract gets praised. That's a possibility. I'm not saying it'll happen that way, but there's a chance. -
I mean... look at how much Malkin is making (9mil signed in 2014 or Ovechkin (9.5mil roughtly since 2008) and compare that to McDavid (12.5mil signed in 2018). Also consider that there are now defensemen being paid more than Crosby. As the cap goes up, so will the money being handed out to the star players. So to compare a contract of the Sedins that will have been signed 15 years prior to Pettersson's future contract... that's a long time in between. Look at what people were signing 15 years before the Sedins contract. That would have literally have been peanuts compared to the Sedins despite there not even being a cap. It only feels wrong because you're taking only a snapshot of a time in NHL history and comparing it to now.

[Signing] Canucks sign Tucker Poolman

You said you'd rather go with other D men. You didn't just talk about "contract being too much/too long" -
Yeah that's fair for some, but there are others that's just not the case. I guess that's more with whom my frustration lies with

What I don't get is why can't everyone just get vaccinated like the majority? All this line of thinking you have will do is make it so we'll still have to quarentine for years to come. You want this whole thing over with? Because what you're doing will just make it take longer to go away. The next waves that take place are your fault. To me, "what if" is not enough when clearly you getting the virus would be much much worse.

Are JP Barry's tactics affecting your opinion of Petey and Quinn?
The Lock replied to JM_'s topic in Canucks Talk
Of course, by no means am I referring to everyone, but if what I am saying wasn't true, there would be no propaganda machines in existance because everyone would be thinking for themselves. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there that give their critical thinking skills to other people. -

This doesn't just happen with sports. This happens with politics and anything else really. As soon as you put what is deemed to be an "authoratative figure" that's actually in the profession being talked about (doesn't actually have to have knowledge in the field), people will look to them and deem them as knowledgable. It's not unlike commericials where "4 out of 5 dentists recommend x product" or something along those line. -

Talking authoritatively is not the issue by itself. It's the fact that it's an insider who is deemed by the public to be part of the negotiations that makes people believe it to be true. He doesn't even have to be part of the negotiations. Him just being in that organization is going to be enough to convince fans of whatever he's saying. -
Sure, but it can't be the only step, and that's where I question all of this. Perhaps over time the annual memory might help, but my fear is that it gives the government an excuse to not do much else.

So I don't know if this will be a popular opinion (and I haven't really read much in this thread), but I am of the mindset that having a day really doesn't do much of anything. All it's really going to do is allow corporations to capitalize on this day which is stupid when the whole idea should be to remember what's happened and change it. We need change. An orange shirt isn't going to provide change and it's sad that the government would rather just have us have a day off and call it a day when the government could do so much more. This is more government inaction than it is government action in my opinion. I guess at the very least, maybe having people think about it will help, but does a day off actually do that or are the people actually using this day as it's meant to be the same people who are already thinking about this stuff anyway? And this isn't me trying to annoy anyone. I just think more justice needs to be done rather than this.

I don't know if I really understand the purpose of panicing about something that is more likely NOT to happen in 6 years time. What you're stating could happen is way too specific for it to make any sense whatsoever to believe it will happen at this point in time. For all we know, the other Hughes brothers may not even be in NJ at that time. We might not have a good team. We might have just won the cup. There are way too many possible factors and scenarios for your senses to think like this. lol

(Signing) Rasmus Dahlin - 3 years 6M
The Lock replied to 70seven's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
No, He wouldn't. He'd be about the same as Dahlin. -

If Quinn was on a 3 year contract like Dahlin, it would have been a similar contract. Quinn however is on a 6 year contract; thus, he's being paid more since he will have more time to improve. This is standard in the league and completely normal. It was to be expected. -
This is provided they even think of this as "helping". Part of the problem in Alberta is the shear number of people just completely ignorant of the virus in the first place.

Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread

Or none of what you're saying happens. -
Okay, if you're going to hide behind a signature, I'm not going to debate with you. Your points make sense (albeit easily debatable) but the tone screams arrogance. It's not worth my time when clearly you think you're above everyone else and will not be convinced otherwise, just being honest. (I've also been coding all day and I'm tired and not in a good mood... like you don't want to debate with me right now lol)

So then what's your stance on this? Do you think Player Name deserves to be talked about in the manner in which he has? I'm not meaning to say Benning wouldn't be entirely at fault for things, but there definately is the extra factor of hindsight that we have now that we didn't have during the actual signing. I deem Benning's mistake more out of desperation of wanting to stay competitive more than the contract itself. Quick Edit: The other thing to consider is how many bad contracts there ended up being the day Player Name was signed: Player Name, Lucic, Backes, Ladd, Okposo, etc. It was clearly a player-driven market at that time.

To be honest, these Hughes proposals are getting a little draining and I'd rather read/talk about proposals that are a little more interesting. That being said, I don't know if I see the 3 brothers in New Jersey long term. Teams often have enough trouble working around 2 star players. Imagine what that would be like having the cap hit of 3 of them. This doesn't even consider the fact that Hischier and Hamilton are being paid a lot and are on long term contracts. I just don't see Quinn to New Jersey happening at all. I'm not saying that strictly as a Canucks fan. Looking at the overall picture, it seems more an idea of novelty than it does a an idea of practicality.

Your 1st sentence implies Benning has a crystal ball. "Didn't think it through properly" is simply a false statement as you can't predict how a player will be before they come here. You are one of the most biased people on this board to be honest. It doesn't matter if you call yourself biased or not. You don't just tell people you're a millionaire and magically become a millionaire. That's not how this works. You're biased. lol So people can't hate on anything on a forum? You're literally hating on haters right now. Should we just ban everyone hating including you? This is hockey talk. We're talking about a hockey player. You just don't like the talk because it's against something you believe in, which goes back to you being biased. Your very response to me shows you being biased since you clearly don't like any discussion that hates on a Swede.

Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
The Lock replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
It would be nice, sure; however, if you expect it, that's on you in my opinion. It's their lives in the end. Not yours. Players have every right to choose if they want to earn money or make less money for the team. They worked hard to get where they are and we're mere fans in the end. It makes just as much sense for them to want to earn a paycheck as it does you wanting them to take a paycut. -
The systems are literally made by the coach. "Wasn't a fit for the Canucks system" has no context to the point where it's not even an excuse. But you are from Sweden and you are going to be biased. I get that. It doesn't make your view realistic though. Have there been players here unfairly attacked in the past? Absolutely, but those players aren't generally using up 6mil in cap space and preventing us from signing other players. Let me ask you this: Do you at least somewhat agree that the hate is understandable? Do you at least see where the hate comes from from a logical perspective? You don't have to agree with the hate, but if you can at least realise where it comes from that can go a long way.

Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
The Lock replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
I'm going to disagree since then you are potentially missing out on the skill that could be in replace of that 2mil cap. I'd rather spend to the cap and have the team at full potential. -
I mean I'm sure Benning sucks at something, Green probably eats food that gives him bad breath from time to time, and you need to bust open oranges to make OJ....
