Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
The Lock replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
Excuses for what? Was there some competition between teams to see who could sign their players 1st or something? -
I doubt this pandemic is easy for everyone, but everyone's going to have a different reaction to things. Long lasting friendships can change, and it's often through events like these that they do, at the very least get hampered. It's unfortunatel, but if happens. In my opinion, everyone has a right to defend themselves and, if that means cutting ties, it means cutting ties. Cold? Perhaps, but to each their own.

[Signing] Islanders sign Cory Schneider
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I wish him the very best. Looking at his recent past, it looks like he was with the NYI last season too just playing in the AHL. -
This is why I'm glad the PC party's not in charge. We'd have Alberta but on a federal scale.
-
Well, then perhaps that's the individual's choice on who are their friends or not. For example, there are a lot of people who have lost loved ones who I think have every right to be mad. It's unfortunate to have to say that sentence (and I don't like it), but it's true.
-
The thing is though, where do you draw that line? The people who haven't been vaccinated could be anywhere along a continuum of how dangerous they're being; however, this gets us nowhere and at some point you have to draw that line. The simplest line to me is "you don't have a vaccine and have the ability to have a vaccine? You should get the vaccine," Sure, it means sane people are being lumped in with the crazies, but do you have a better solution towards this that would be just as effective?

Watch Petey have a Mexico vacation and rumours start sprouting up about a new NHL team in Mexico.... -
I think the problem is that you have anti-vaxxers not being polite, literally blocking ambulances at the hospitals, being extremely vocal... and then you have the majority of people being rather polite while the anti-vaxxers are effectively killing people. While that may sound harsh, it's kind of the harsh truth. The main reason why the 4th wave has happened is because of the anti-vaxxers who could have easily gotten their vaccine to prevent things but didn't; yet, these people are left almost too politely to protest in front of places of people who are literally saving lives. It's just plain wrong. Rather than referring to all of this as "cancel culture", how about we solve covid?

I edited my above post since we're talking about skills and not what the actual individual body part size would be anyway
-
Yeah. It's dumb isn't it? Which is why you're making an assumption since you can't provide proof on what he'd actually be like if he was shorter. Thanks for proving my point. Also, shorter arms does not mean a worse slapshot just as an example. Slapshots are about mechanics more than anything.
-
Except it is an assumption. Give me proof on it otherwise. You can't because there is none out there; therefore, it's an assumption. That's how assumptions work. lol Unless if you're one of these people who think your opinions are facts.
-
The being worse part is also an assumption. It's not like you're thinking any different really. You're basing things on what they are like now, but what would they be like if he was smaller? Worse or just a diffferent defender? He'd still have talent don't you think?
-
Would he? He might lose a bit of size but he'd be more mobile. It's not as obvious as you think.
-
But is it the big defense actually neutralizing small forwards or is it the good defense neutralizing small forwards? Do you really think Hedman would be any worse if he was a little smaller? Lidstrom was 6 foot 1 and merely a little over 190 lbs , yet he neutralized fowards quite well. He did everything quite well. Edit: Just to add too, there are a lot of big defense out there who are practically pylons where small forwards could skate circles around.
-
So you're just going to give me the D cores of 2 stanley cup winners to somehow prove otherwise? That's not really saying much to be honest. Give me a full analysis of each team if you want to actually convince me and not just a small portion in order to pretend. I'm willing to listen, but not to an analysis not unlike what a politician would make ...unless if you really don't want to start mentioning players like Gourde and Johnson. (and yes, I'm talking about the entire team, not just defense) If you want to talk about defense, I'd counter argue that it's still not about size but more about how good the defense are at their job and that size is still a superficial benchmark. Sure, size could help in defending, but it can also hamper on other aspects such as speed. That being said, this is a Garland thread.... and Garland's a forward....

[Signing] Golden Knights re-sign Nolan Patrick
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
It would be interesting to think about what a team would be like with one of those 3 instead of Pettersson. Imagine us with both Hughes and Makar. I wouldn't blame Benning if he had Makar above Pettersson. -

2017 really was a draft where you'd almost NOT want to have drafted 1st or 2nd. I'm sure one could argue that you could still have picked Petey 1st or 2nd, but the pressure to choose Hirchier or Patrick was evident at the time in my opinion. -
Yeah. Size can be such a superficial reasoning to be worrying about, especially if it's just height that people are worried about. Since when has winning a stanley cup been determined by having a "large" team? Last I checked there was typically a lot of luck and momentum along with skill involved at the end of the day.

I fail to see your point. If you're trying to provide reasoning as to why we should fret between 7.5 and 8, you haven't done so at all. I will however say there comes a point when you can lower that value down and down to the point of being unrealistic. Ultimately, the value that happens in the end is going to be the value that happens in the end. If you expect 7mil and it becomes 8 instead, then clearly what you deem as being "reasonable value" might not have got them signed. Personally, I don't know what the number will be, but I think there's been a bunch of silly banter over what the value should be when ultimately, it's better to have them signed than not signed at all. -

I mean, maybe? Although we have other players we also need to worry about within 3 years time as well so I can't see it being quite that simple. -

Honestly, is anyone going to be upset if it's 8mil as opposed to 7.5mil and, if so, why? I don't really know if I understand worrying about half a mil even if the 2 of them add up to 1mil.... like whoopdidoo? -
What you have said just isn't true for the reasons other people have mentioned. Outside of your comment, I haven't heard of this being a concern at all. If you have a link to where you heard about this, it would be appreciated; otherwise, I'm just going to assume you're falsely assuming your opinion as being fact.

If you only could only listen to one band....
The Lock replied to bishopshodan's topic in Off-Topic General
I actually agree with this. Most of their songs just don't get old for me and her voice is just so pleasent. If Pvris had more songs, I'd say the same thing there.
