Jake Virtanen banner still up at Rogers place ( article)
The Lock replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
To be honest, I still don't see how this is that much of an issue. If people care that much about a stupid banner they need to get outside more. lol -
The only reason why you would use the term "ramifications" is if you expect things to turn out bad. Not exactly a neutral stance. I guess I just don't understand the preconceived negativity on this. I'm not saying the trade will turn out great necessarily, but some people seem needlessly pessimistic in my opinion. There's nothing wrong with hope, but there is everything wrong with giving up before something starts.

To you maybe, but we're talking about the other side of the world here. Imagine if the same thing happened to a Russian player in the KHL (ignoring the fact that the KHL isn't quite as skilled) and we signed that Russian player. Would that be considered a PR disaster on our part or would people look at his skills more and think that player would deserve a chance here? My guess would be it would be the usual some people thinking it'll be a bad move while there would be others with hope for the player. Hardly a PR disaster in the end either way. If you want even a "closer to home" situation, what if we suddenly had Evander Kane who has had a lot of controversy lately? Would that be a PR nightmare in your eyes or would you be hoping he plays well for us? Literally the only reason why anyone here would think it could be a PR nightmare is because Virtanen's from here and has history with us now. Otherwise, people are less likely to care if you think about it. Keep in mind a lot of the things Virtanen has done are still deemed are "alleged", meaning it's very likely not everything is true. Some things likely are, but not everything.

Here's how negotiations work... You have 2 sides. Both sides ask for more than what they are willing to accept just so there is leeway. Sometimes both sides are close. Sometimes the sides are far apart. If the sides are far enough apart, the negotitations take longer. The NHL has evidenced that this process can take months, sometimes throughout a year. So yes, I 100% stand by my statement of rushing it. If a deal happened sooner, my reaction would be the same if they sign just before training camp. These deals are not all equal and if you rush them you risk being on the short end of the stick. As far as my question about debates go, I think some debates are ultimately meaningless. This is one of those debates. That's kind of what I'm getting at. Why I'm posting here? I'm bored.

You keep telling yourself that. No matter what your post sounded among the most spiteful and full of hate in this thread. And everyone and their dog likes to claim they are stating the facts. General rule of thumb: anyone who has to say they're stating the facts are not actually stating the facts. Your stating that tells me you have self doubt that statement of yours.

1) Buffalo's literally NEEDS Eichel's contract to go above the cap floor. An offer sheet is all but 100% gauranteed to be matched. 2) Having Eichel would likely mean no more Petey for us. 3) Buffalo has so much cap space and all of their picks to offer sheet our players at will if we were to make them as an "enemy". An offer sheet war would only mean death for us.

The hate is strong with this one... and I am not even joking...

But if this thread is about locking up players, do you not think that rushing a contract would put us at a disadvantage with getting a deal done? To me, rushing things would show a lack of confidence on management's part in keeping the player in the first place and we'd likely be overpaying for Petey or not on the desirable term. This is a double edged sword at the end of the day. Perhaps by this logic, we've also dodged a bullet overpaying? Perhaps we're Neo perpetually dodging bullets every day, every hour, every minute? Again, I have to ask what's even the point of this debate?

Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
The Lock replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
When Chicago won their first cup in ages, they had Byfuglien and traded him immediately after. They also traded Sharp, Shaw, Brouwer, and many others due to cap. Yet, they still had, if not a dynasty, a "near dynasty" and was a good team for many years after that. If you are panicing about the Canucks being in a similar situation of actually having a good team and needing to trade these players away to stay under the cap, then I WANT your scenario to happen since that is EXACTLY what we are striving for and how we can be a good team long term. -
If he wanted to play here sure? I have huge doubts this would even be a thing for the reasons above.
-
Keep in mind they're still "lottery" picks, meaning it is still highly unlikely we'd get Wright and Bedard out of it. If anything, there is a higher chance we'd get neither.

It's an interesting question. I listen to a lot of rock/metal but that probably wouldn't be my choice because it can be too angry at times. I listen to a lot of genres but I think I'd go with background music for games just due to the variety that still comes from that. It's a genre I actually haven't listened to a lot but there are some absolutely amazing works of art out there and I think my appreciation would leave me satisfied.

I think overall, my hope is that this trade at least quiets down the people who wanted Benning to be "bolder" for the time being. We'll see over time whether this trade is good or bad just like any other trade. If the trade works out, great. If it doesn't, well it would go to show that "bolder" is not necessarily "better".
-
Is it though? What exactly are we defining here by "macho"? I feel like your comment is more to spite Jake than to actually understand culture since there are a lot of stereotypes out there; yet, there are also a lot of similirities across the most of the world as well that people don't realise. Just remember that male/female physiology and human instinct isn't going to necessarily change that much. We're all still the same species in the end and culture can only shape us so much.
-
I don't really see this as being "lucky" or "unlucky" as you could literally come up with a milliion different scenarios and make the same claims. Too much subjectivity here to really have anything to stand on here in my opinion. For example, one could argue that Carolina could have offer sheeted EP as well instead of JK. Do we claim we're lucky there too? Do we just make this claim whenever a team can offer sheet one of our players and don't pull that trigger? I guess this whole discussion seems like one of the sillier ones to me.

Canucks requiring covid vaccination for staff and fans
The Lock replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
The problem is this requires and ideal world situation where everyone would be onboard with vaccinating and willing to wear a mask in the 1st place, which ultimately is not the current world situation as evidenced time and time again even in the news. We can't forget that there's a reason why governments and law exist in the 1st place: because we are not capable of handling it ourselves otherwise. It's nice to think that we can, and I'm sure we can handle some of it, but we have our limits. Just look at this board at the numerous debates that happen. Would you trust everyone, and I mean everyone, to be able to be "intelligent morally conscientious people". -

Yet, all you've been doing in this thread is deflecting (ie. any time you bring up political agendas) Even now, I still don't understand your reasoning behind things and I doubt you even know your reasoning. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but all this conversation has proven to me is some opinions just aren't well thought out. If you actually gave me a good reason for things as they pertain to not getting vaccinated (ie. not just with politics), I'd be willing to listen more. -

The way you've been posting though, you sound more obsessed with politics than with the vaccination itself. Just an observation. -

I think the problem is that the main argument anti-vaxxers seem to want to use is government agendas. Unfortunately, these aren't even arguments but more distractions from the actual problem at hand which is the virus itself. Unfortunately though, because government is typically a hot topic that affects all, people are easy to believe what's being said no matter how irrelevant it may be. -

But why let what the government does bother you enough to not get vaccinated? If you know getting vaccinated's going to help why not just get it? Edit: And the same questions go towards your reply to me and your post below this one. -

And then we can manipulate our own trades and contract signings! -
I'm pretty sure if this were that simple of a solution (if this is even a problem to begin with) it would have been implemented already. But I'm going to be biased as I don't read CanucksArmy. I just don't see how their opinions are "more legitimate" than CDC even. It's typically just people with opinions, like here.

I'm telling you since I got vaccinated and grew my 3rd arm I've been 50% more productive!
