[Signing] Canucks sign Tucker Poolman
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
How so? Just because a UFO is sighted doesn't mean there's aliens. Just because Poolman left doesn't mean they didn't value his services. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Tucker Poolman

Winnipeg's my 2nd favourite team and I will say that I don't fully like the moves they made for their D core. It's very risky for them. -
[Signing] Canucks sign Jaroslav Halak

You must be the most miserable person in existance on this forum. Is there anything you actually like? -
While I can understand the frustration, keep in mind that not every trade is about getting face value. In this case there's a lot more at stake such as cap space, needing to sign Pettersson, Hughes, etc. Perhaps if things went your way, this trade doesn't get done at all and we lose Pettersson. That IS a possibility here.

How do you even know if they were "desperate" to get rid of OEL? Define desperate even because, just because a team's trying to move someone, it doesn't make them desperate. That's your own words to over-exaggerate. Also, just because a player's not playing to his standards, that's not how one defines "creative" of a trade. It's the makeup of the trade as you yourself even just mentioned. Like I said before, I get it if you don't like the trade, but the way you're presenting yourself here... you might as well be Trump pretending he knows hockey.
-
Also, I want to point out that I was someone who was actively against trying to get OEL here, so don't think even now I'm fully on board with this whole thing. lol But I believe in giving chances and this trade is very unique to say the least. This was definately not what I expected to happen in an OEL trade. And hey, if OEL lives up to his contract and improves again, then we have another top 2 dman and a better all-around team for it. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to bow out of the forums for now while the dust settles more. lol
-
Doesn't mean we shouldn't have either. This is one of those situations where we'll just have to wait and see. People seem to want to talk like this is another Eriksson contract; however, I'd argue that OEL, even not playing up to contract, is still an upgrade on defense, unlike Eriksson barely doing anything at forward position. While that may not sound like a promising statement, I'd argue that people against this deal are immediately thinking worst case scenario rather than giving it a chance
-
You say it's not a creative move, yet how many years did it take to finally get rid of these contracts? How many people kept claiming it would be easy to trade Eriksson alone? And if that's not enough, how many trade proposals managed to trade away muiltiple bad contracts in 1 trade? Most trade proposals made by fans, if not all, only traded away one at a time. This trade got rid of 3 in one fell swoop. Make no mistake, this trade can be deemed as polarizing and I see where it could be flawed, but this might be one of the most creative trades I've seen in a while.
-
This makes no sense to me. You say he's in a men's league and then suggest a boys league? I get really wanting someone to take a certain step, but please come up with a more logical reasoning behind it. I'm not partial to anything here but this made no sense as I've stated. lol

[GDT] 2021 NHL Expansion Draft
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
The way people are on this board, I wouldn't be surprised if someone somehow thinks it's Benning's fault for losing Lind (provided that's who it is Seattle takes). : -
[Trade] Canucks Trade for Dickinson from DAL for a 3rd.

I don't care where you live. Location has nothing to do with how much you know, especially when anyone can watch the games, look up the stats, etc. -
[Report] Canucks won’t protect Kole Lind
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I don't think the expansion draft is something we can just magically take advantage of. Seems more selfish than anything to me to think Seattle would just be willing to help us like that when they're going to have a lot of goalie options along with a number of deals they can have with other teams. -

Except you don't know if you've watched the player more than anyone or not. It's these assumptions that make you sound like a pretend know-it-all rather than someone who actually knows something about the player. Anyone can say anything. I could literally right now say I know more than you, but I would be no more in the right or wrong than you would if you said you knew more than me, so don't pretend if you want anyone to take you seriously. -
the Importance or lack there of faceoffs in NHL Hockey.
The Lock replied to Bad_BOI_pete's topic in General Hockey Discussion
I'm not going to get too much into this but I think really the importance of faceoffs is going to fluctuate as the game evolves. Some decades the extra puck possession from faceoffs will be more important than other decades. Just as a sort of related example, this is similar to how some defensemen after the 2005 lockout started finding themselves obsolete as their own position changed due to the faster pace of the game. We started seeing less and less "tough" defensemen and more speedy defensemen who could keep up with the forwards. -

I have no problems with this trade. I liked Dickenson even before this. -
Actually, if you look at the times before the 2000's, we were a terrible team overall, only ever reaching the finals by fluke and missing most playoffs for the 1st 30 years. If you consider that, the overall trend is still upwards. I dare you to look at our record from the 70's and 80's. We also won't know how Benning matches up until later on when we've seen the effects of his tenure here. You didn't even include Nonis in your analysis for whatever reason as most of Gillis' team was made by Nonis.

This seems even less likely than Rathbone. lol

Which players would make great coaches
The Lock replied to ABNuck's topic in General Hockey Discussion
Well Vern Fiddler does have a son so maybe Juice will want more weird faces coming his way if the son makes it to the NHL! -
Please tell me you are a lawyer or someone with experience in this in order to prove that this is "easy". Because otherwise I have no reason to take you seriously.

[Report] Alexander Edler to hit free agency
The Lock replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I'm not just using Edmonton as a blueprint. It's one example of many who have struggled defensively. While I don't disagree in the striving to be like Carolina, I'm saying things are much harder than it seems. It's easy to say the words you say now. It's a completely different thing to actual implement what you are saying. People need to stop pretending this is an EA game. I'm not saying you are, but a lot of people talk the talk but don't know much beyond that.
