  1. At least we're not fans of the Ducks... that  team is actually supposed to be good.

  2. Holy crap. A guy I went to school with hooked up with Bono's daughter. She's a looker.
  3. Did he lose out? I read on the AVClub that he turned down the role.
  4. Anyone watch the Knick (TV Show)? If you can get passed the whole 'another dark and troubled white male genius' trope, it is a beautiful show to watch. Cliff Martinez does the sountrack (former Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer, scored Drive, etc.), Soderberg directs, Clive Owen stars. It is gorgeously shot and great sound editing... the clanking of metal scalpels, the steam from surgeons washing their hands, it is mesmerizing. You feel like you're in the room.
  5. Virtanen played a bit with Point last year and the two showed some chemistry.
  6. Benning wanted the kids to be brought up in a winning environment. That's probably the best justification for sending McCann to the WJHC.

  7. I watched the first 2-3 episodes about a year ago. I thought Will Forte was awful, his character pathetic, and quickly shut it down. A couple months ago the show came on when I was cooking dinner and I couldn't be bothered to change it. I don't know if I just wasn't in the right mood before or what, but its become the only sitcom I actually look forward to watch. It will never be e as good as Parks & Rec or 30 Rock, but it seems to be another SNL regular going on to have sitcom success.
  8. The twitter hashtag #ExplainaFilmPlotBadly is pretty good for some laughs.
  9. IMO there is a massive difference between McGregor and Sonnen. McGregor talks because he believes in himself, Sonnen talks because he is a sideshow that needed to stay relevant/drum controversy to maintain a contract. McGregor also hasn't failed three drug tests. If Sonnen was confident/unafraid, I don't think he'd have been doping.
  10. Exactly. Make it a casual an obvious part of the conversation, and then make all the intracacies behind it the point of emphasis. The way it was used in the movie was like nobody had ever heard of the concept before. If the guy has seen Ironman, surely (albeit regretably), he has seen Amageddon.
  11. What are we calling the definition of a power-forward these days? Do they need to be crushing guys with hits, or just play a physical game/get into the dirty areas? I'd say 'true' power forwards drafted in the second round or later include: Wayne Simmonds, Jamie Benn, Anders Lee, Boone Jenner, Troy Brouwer, Joel Ward, maybe Carl Soderberg, Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky
  12. Of the movies nominated, I think I'll like Spotlight the best. That said, I think original screenplays should be given greater weight than adapted screenplays. Imagination is not given enough weight.
  13. Will there be any way to watch the World Juniors online?

    1. Gstank29

      Gstank29

Any major streaming site should have it

  14. I think that at the time the decision was made, keeping JV was the best of the two options. In retrospect, maybe it would have been better to send him down to Calgary. Then again, nobody knows how that was going to work out. Maybe playing 50% of games and getting to see how guys like the Sedins and Dorsett approach being a professional will turn out to be more beneficial. Just one of those things that is too hard to evaluate (the decision to keep him) because nobody knows how the alternative would have panned out. Can judge his play, and I agree that he needs to go to the WJHC.
  15. Zhuk will be top five in QMJHL rookie scoring by the end of the year. Has been close to a point a game pace the last 15 games.
  16. Jasek has been invited to the Czech's WJHC camp: Tyson Giuriato Retweeted Ryan Biech ‏@ryanbiech 57m57 minutes ago #Canucks prospect Lukas Jasek invited to Czech Republic WJHC camp - http://www.hokej.cz/zacha-zboril-stransky-a-dalsi-o-ms-dvacitek-bude-bojovat-34-junioru/5011786 … View translation More
  17. I bet management has already decided to loan JV. They'll just wait to the last possible moment to make it sound like it was a harder decision, which is good to help with the kid's confidence.
  18. By definition it is a proportion of the whole. We can express a proportion as a percentage, but only after multiplying by 100 or by, as you mentioned, letting 1 = 100. The latter seems unnecessarily more complicated though, and I think baseball should be blamed.
  19. Stanford Prison Experiment was great and I was happy the movie didn't attempt to give Zimbardo any redeeming qualities. I couldn't get through Ant Man. Really looking forward to Spotlight. Mark Ruffalo is underrated.
  20. Love & Mercy: 8/10 I think I spoke before about how I wasn't a big fan of Paul Giammati... but then I started thinking about whether I didn't like him because he is so good at playing characters that incite negative emotions. In Love and Mercy PG plays Dr. Lundy, a psychotherapist with radical techniques that tries to control every single aspect of Brian Wilson's (of The Beach Boys) life. He did a phenomenal job. On to the review... When I was a kid, I had a ton of energy. To combat this, at 5pm, my parents would give me a walkman with a cassette of 'Pet Sounds' and tell me to run laps outside the house until I was tired. Sounds like horrific parenting if you live in Vancouver, but we lived in basically the most isolated place in all of BC, so it was fine. To me, the Beach Boys were associated with happiness, so this movie kind of flipped that perspective on its head. Dano and Cusack play Brian Wilson at different age and do a great job (especially Dano). Watching him orchestrate the studio musicians was magic to watch and really helped challenge the idea that pop music is simplistic. Its a sad movie with a happy ending, and definitely worth the watch to see how Wilson worked.
  21. If Virtanen becomes Kreider, that's terrific for us.
