  1. So is Cam Newton still the same old pouting punk but now having success, or is success related in part to him growing up?
  2. I think you're missing my point. Having a differing opinion is fine; making things up to support your opinion is not fine.
  3. And he could end up being right about Virtanen, I just find it laughable that he's claiming to be more objective than other posters on here. He is one of those people that is more interested in winning an argument than being right, which is why he'll make things up.
  4. DownUnda and 'objectivity' are like oil and water. He's consistently shown a willingness to invent stats to win an argument. Why the mods haven't banned him for trolling can only be explained by some kind of Aussie quota that is required for the site to operate.
  5. Thought this as well, but I think it was intentional to try to mimic what the events were like for the climbers. Also, I need to stop watching Jimmy Fallon with the expectation that things will be different. The guy is completely unfunny; worse than Leno, and I hate Leno.
  6. Mike Johnson is a brutal colour guy. When Burrows draws a penalty, he's a diver. When Kadri draws a penalty, he's praised for his 'skill' in being able to put his team on the PP. Pandering to his Rogers' overlords.

he also has a super annoying voice and doesn't come accross as particularily intelligent

surely you are not talking about an eastern bias right

  7. Sideways: 7/10 Liked the idea behind the movie, but I felt like the movie was trying to get me to sympathize with Paul Giamatti's character, and I found him to be rather un-likeable. Maybe if he was a different person before his divorce I would have some empathy for him, but there was no indication in the film that that was the case. He seemed lazy, selfish, and easily irritable.
  8. Chicago had zero interest in helping develop Canucks prospects. It would an entirely different ball game in Utica.
  9. Racism, sexism... I figure anti-Semitism is the next logical step... maybe tomorrow I'll have a look through your reviews of Woody Allen films and find something to pick apart. ... but seriously, if anyone is interested in the topic of sexual arousal, look up Meredith Chivers work. I'll stop now. I think I'll watch some Star Wars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBQaLuqwtl8
  10. So there is theory and research that looks at the equivalent of penile plethysmography for women (penile plethysmograph measures erections, and in women the same idea measures conductance within the vaginal wall. This research has shown that nearly any objective can promote conductance for women, with the theory being that it was an evolutionary defence mechanism (rape was so common, and the physical consequences of rape for women were higher without conductance, so conductance was essentially helping prevent women from being more seriously injured during rape, even when they didn't consent, were still in pain, were not sexually aroused in other ways, etc.). Related to your comment, there is also the idea that rape was used as a way to help with population growth (a truly horrible thing to say/promote...I'm just explaining what has been said). So,your reaction to that scene may be evolutionarily 'normative' because you needed to be aroused in such circumstances to help stimulate population growth...or you just found the two women hot... or you're a sexual sadist. What a terrible way to spend five minutes of procrastination.
  11. Looking forward to the day when the media stops saying 'great theatre' to describe any exciting sports game/moment.

How about 'history'?  In my opinion, sports media refers to history being made far too often.  I don't recall any sports events ever being discussed in my history classes.  What they are really creating are the answers to sports trivia questions.

  12. Connor McDavid will have more individual success that Sid. Continues to blow me away.

  13. Absolutely you can. I just finished watching this series about a month ago. I think I may have even reviewed it on here. Looking forward to S2.
  14. With the exception of Star Wars and a few others, I think she is a damn fine actress. Not only is she extremely attractive, she is extremely intelligent, which adds to her attraction from my perspective. You can read some of the papers she has published here: https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Natalie_Hershlag
  15. Earlier I mentioned a lack of females actresses I would pay specifically to see. I will watch anything with Natalie Portman.
  16. Re-watched Interstellar (7/10). Can't remember what I initially gave it, but I think a 7/10 is higher than my original opinion as the whole "love is a quantifiable additional dimension" got me irked. MM was good in this film, his reaction to his children's videos got me a little misty. Jessica Chastain is hit or miss for me. Some scenes I like, some she just seems flat. I know that's a pretty controversial opinion around here, especially with the love for Taking Shelter (which I have not seen). Another controversial opinion: the pay discrepancy between male and female actors is warranted. There are very few female actors that I would pay simply to see their work. Emily Blunt, Meryl Streep (though I don't like her recent movies much), Cate Blanchett... that's about it). EDIT: Chappie: 5.5/10. Robot the only character that's not one-dimensional. The criminals are so stereotypical, and the Slumdog Millionaire actor continues to insist that he deliver every line as a whisper of awe. Worth a one-time watch because robots.
  17. The combination of his very sharp facial features with the smarmy/snarky attitude that goes with it is just too off-putting for me.
  18. I liked DFW's line about being unsure of whether he liked David Lipsky or not because he was spending too much of his focus on whether David Lipsky liked him. Were a lot of little insightful, self-aware moments like that. I just bought David Lipsky's book "Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself". Look forward to getting greater detail.
  19. Completely agree with your first two sentences. Completely disagree with the bolded. Not because I think JV is better, but because it is way to early to be making conclusions about the value of a rookie with five games under his belt.
  20. The End of the Tour: 8/10 I find Eisenberg so off-putting, so the 8/10 score is a testament to the strength of the film. I say film, it is more like an audio book, and I mean that as a compliment. The conversations are what Aaron Sorkin strives for but quite often misses. The rich back-and-forth, but minus Sorkin's pretentiousness that sometimes seeps through. A lot of the conversations really resonated with me, and I think I will pick up David Lipsky's book 'Although of Course You End Up becoming Yourself'.
  21. Wish the media would simply stop reporting on this group's activities.
  22. Is this play seriously still being talked about? Goins made a mistake, he bounced back. Story over.
