A realistic analysis of Jim Benning's tenure so far
Down by the River replied to 13231's topic in Canucks Talk
Jim Benning is among the least eloquent GMs in the league and in this market a good communicator is absolutely necessary. I'm not saying that the GM needs to be transparent. I'm saying that when they do talk, they need to be clear. I do not have much trust in Benning at all, but I can't tell if this is because he is genuinely a bad GM or because his is not well-spoken and perhaps not especially intelligent. -

Curious to know if anyone shorted GME/AMC after it lost its social media steam. -

So did Cathie Wood. Although 'some' was +300,000 shares... -
ICBC to issue Rebates, Average Amount $190.
Down by the River replied to DonLever's topic in Off-Topic General
Was not expecting that. I mean, ICBC is still a god damn joke and Vancouver driving is an absolute mess... some people should be paying $15,000 to be insured... but I'll take the cash thank you very much. -

BITF Currently at $3.33; had hit $5 earlier in the year and I mostly cashed out then. Currently up 33% ENPH: Currently at 186.34; only up 6%. Took a big hit during the GME stuff. Was at $212 (above prediction) for a bit. Expect it to rise back up. PCRFY: Currently at 13.01; up 11%. Just over a third of the way there with time to spare. GLNCY: Currently at £249.90; up 7%. Surpassed £250.00 on multiple occasions; dipped last week. EBIX: Currently at $53.55; up 41%. Peak around $63 last week. -

Each week I only really have 4-5 hours where I HAVE to be doing my job at an exact time. I tinker back and forth between work and monitoring my positions/other stocks during the AM and then focus fully on work in the PM. Other than my job, investing, going to the gym, and playing with my dog, I don't really have any other time commitments. -

People will blame cancel culture, but this was never about politics. I'm sure that you'd find about half of hockey players lean towards the Conservative side of things; they're a microcosm of society. Ovechkin loves Putin. He still is beloved around the league. He doesn't get cancelled because he doesn't become a distraction. The problem wasn't DeAngelo's politics. The problem was that he is an un-coachable moron. He is also racist; that transcends politics. DeAngelo doesn't like Trump because he has an acute/nuanced understanding of immigration policy, tax reform, etc. etc. He likes Trump because he likes people who, like him, have a disdain for certain segments of the population. He became a distraction and wasn't good enough to justify being a distraction. -
[Rumour] Sam Bennett requests trade

Thread title is inaccurate. He didn't ask for a trade. I believe the correct term is "emancipation". -

I got out of AMC and put everything into ARKK after it dropped 3%. I think if there is one thing that will increase it will be GME just because if you look at WSB, that's what everyone is still talking about; the memes that are most upvoted all relate to GME. That's the one that has the most passion from people... I am not sure if this is useful anymore given I don't know what the short position on GME looks like... To me, now is a great time to buy the stocks that are dipping. -

Maybe, and I hope so because I can respect that, but maybe its just performative statements to earn kudos. -

I have just be learning myself the last 4 or so months and I would say that now is about the worst time possible to learn about stocks. What we are seeing is not normal and trying to learn about investing based on these cases might be fruitless. If you want to just be part of the action, treat this like gambling. You could lose virtually all of it so be prepared for that scenario. If you are interested in investing beyond the gong show this week, starting with an ETF like SPY or those offered by ARK can be a good way to understand a collection of stocks that represent some underlying theme. -

@nuckin_futz Are you still tapped into currency? Don't feel obligated to answer, but I was wondering what your thoughts are on currency-hedged ETFs. Would I be better off just risking changes in the loonie and keeping my fees lower, or are the additional fees for currency-hedged ETFs worth it? I'm erring more on the side of risk-averse; this is just money to park as my wife and I try to upsize our living arrangements. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/featured-reports/article-are-canadians-wasting-billions-on-currency-hedged-etfs/
