7th Annual CDCFL Entry Draft (2020 Edition)
Down by the River replied to Nail's topic in Fantasy Hockey
You got to go camping AND select Carter Kane Savoie? Life must be good. -
Yeah, I saw the glove tap, left, came back, and the dude was standing on the fence.
-
Lol. Checked my slow cooker and missed the fight. Now we're going to have to wait like 45 minutes before the next fight.

I'm always interested in how Firas Zahabi seems to take on guys with issues between the ears (e.g., Kevin Lee, Johnny Walker, Mersad Bektic). Zahabi's philosophy/demeanor seems like he needs a really cerebral fighter to have success (e.g., GSP). Instead he takes on these pet projects of guys that can't put their skillset together and it becomes like he is trying to fit square pegs into round holes.
-
Not at all. But 20 pro fights and you have an Artem Lobov-like record... you kind of know what you're going to get there.
-
Woodley being primarily a counter puncher might work in his favor. Mackenzie Dern actually looking in shape.
-
Woodley seems like a shell of a shell of his old self. Maybe Convington can break something out of him, but I don't think he has it anymore. Feel like Cowboy could be on the wrong end of a nasty knockout tonight.

Congrats to @theminister. Looks like you got me by a half a point. EDIT: nvm, Killorn with an apple on the OT GWG. Kind of lessens the sting a bit.

[REPORT] Manny Malhotra to Toronto
Down by the River replied to CRAZY_4_NAZZY's topic in Canucks Talk
I love Manny, but how much more advice could he have passed along to Horvat from their 3-year prior relationship? Manny was a great mentor. But a key to growth is to not have the same mentor for years upon years. Manny taught things to Bo that Bo can pass down to Petey, Gaud, etc. Now time for a new assistant coach that can help guys develop a new element to their game. I don't know if the Canucks employ a full-time skating coach, but that makes a ton of sense to me especially given Petey and Boes aren't phenomenal skaters. -
[REPORT] Manny Malhotra to Toronto

What were they supposed to promote him to? -
Really too bad. Been trying to make more of an effort to "buy Canadian" lately and MEC had a cool origin story.
-
Woof. Gonna need a big game from Nelson and Toews...

There should always be room for forgiveness, but that doesn't also mean you get to return to the exact same life you had. -
[Proposal) Boeser to NYR
Down by the River replied to AC Readership's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
IMO trading Boeser is just a lateral move. Pettersson Miller Horvat Boeser The Canucks only have four legit top 6 forwards (hopefully they can sign Toffoli). If they find a way to sign both Tanev and Toffoli, they still need one more top 6 forward and one more top 4 dman. The only way they are going to get it is by giving up picks/prospects and tacking on dead weight to free up cap space. -

The Canucks overachieved in the bubble. I think part of it has to do with how close they are off-ice. The guys had wives, newborn children, DOGS, to go home to... and they certainly were happy to be back, but nobody wanted to leave. Don't want some douchebag coming in and throwing off the vibe. -
Seguin available and willing to take back some salary (e.g., Zajac if you see him as negative value). Looking for a first round pick in this year's draft plus picks in next year's draft.

Three years ago and this would have been the biggest trade in NHL history. Very excited to have Karlsson aboard. He's among my alltime favorite dmen and I think that the break/shutdown will give him so much needed time to rest/recover and spend time with his family. Expect him to come back with a fury. Great working with the Dallas GMs on this trade. They have good vision. Trading Drew was tough and I think he'll do great on a team like that.

Shocker.

Tonight might be the worst on-paper card the UFC has put together in the last decade. Not their fault... but... yuck.

The Blues trading Edmunson for Faulk was a mistake. 1-1 it was a bad deal, but then they went ahead and gave up one of their best prospects (Bokk). Then, they signed Faulk ensuring that they wouldn't have the space to sign Pietrangelo. So basically they settled on giving up Edmunson, Pietrangelo, and a 19yr old first rounder for Justin Faulk. Woof. For the Canucks, the problem with both Edmunson and Dillon is that they are both left-handed shots. Stetcher and Tanev are rare R-handed shot defencemen.
