  1. Montreal getting Jake Allen when they already have Carey Price makes a bit more sense. Hopefully if they choose to condense the schedule they focus a bit more on MLB-style series rather than traveling all over the damn continent.
  2. What is total BS is the idea of a salary cap without attention to variations in state/provincial tax. The cap means markedly different things for different teams. It is idiotic that the NHL doesn't fix this.
  3. Is there going to be a draft thread where we poll CDC on the consensus #1, #2, #3 picks, etc.?

    1. Master Mind

      Master Mind

Sounds like you just volunteered to do them ;)

    2. Jaku
  4. Not my pic, but really enjoyed my time in Sarajevo. Not super 'unknown' but not especially popular either.
  5. Siakam keeps running the floor and the Raps have no idea how to get him the ball in transition. Gasol makes bad decisions on both ends of the floor. Siakam lazy on D. Weird team to watch right now.
  6. Yankees have one hit through 2.1 innings... but they've had six baserunners (4BB, 1 HBP). Jays up 2-0. This team is an absolute adventure.
  7. He was rushed to the NHL and went through a bad shoulder injury, but those things should have only hurt his skill/physicality. Virtanen's problem is between the ears. He has been on people's radars since he was about 10-11 years old. He spent nearly a decade being the best player on his team. Some kids can be focused on getting better as opposed to worrying about who is best, but I don't know that Virtanen has that type of personality. He seems a bit immature, not too bright, and not too focused. There is a major gap between what he wants and what he's willing to do. A change of scenery might do him good. I can see video coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, etc. getting fed up with Virtanen because he has the attention span that he had about a decade ago.
  8. I could watch this game legally but I'm going to stream it from an illegal site to own the Libs NHL. I don't think NBA teams have played a single back-to-back game. Screw the NHL, NBC, and Kentucky Derby.
  9. EDIT: I've gotten really violent over the last 24hr.
  10. 2009. I had lurked for awhile and then joined to talk about this game:
  11. Toews with the apple and a +1 for 6 points. LA up by one in Game 7. Nelson adds his own assist!
  12. It's crazy to me that fans' memories can be so short. Look at how hard this team battled against much more physical teams. You're right. The Wild, Blues, and VGK are just much heavier, especially at the top of their lineup. One thing about Hughes and to a lesser extent Pettersson is that they have not yet had much time to train like a true professional athlete. The ability to take care of your body. Get it ready for that grind. Hughes and Pettersson are both slight, and its a lot to handle on bodies that just aren't used to this much intensity. The great news is that I see Horvat becoming to the Canucks what Chara was to the Bruins. A gym rat that just commands that everyone do what he's doing. And then when you look at Pettersson's competitiveness. He is just the perfect player. He wants to be the best at everything. He'll make the right adjustments. And when your most talented player is also that hardworking, it will also trickle down through the lineup. To reiterate, I don't think there EVER has been a group of players that I felt better about cheering for than this group of Canucks. They aren't just a group of extremely good hockey players, they are a group you feel proud to cheer for because of how they carry themselves and build each other up.
  13. It is crazy to me for anyone to think that the performance in Game 7 was anything other than fatigue. Look at how hard this team battled to be in this position. They just had zero left in the tank. Couldn't get their feet moving. Gave it everything they had. So happy to be a fan of this group. The core is going to have that collective work ethic that makes this team great provided that Benning can keep all of the following over the next five+ years: Markstrom or Demko Hughes Pettersson Miller Horvat Boeser I don't think Pearson is a legit top 6. If they can re-sign Toffoli, great, but the price needs to be right. I'm okay with the Canucks taking a step back next year (whenever that is) in order to shed salary. The team's best chance to win is not next year or even the year after. Three to four years from now is the team's best window. Need to make sure they set themselves up to make their push then.
  14. OEL is a top-pairing dman. That will require someone like Podz going the other way. Not a collection of mid-tier players and salary cap anchors.
  15. Hockey has become so much like politics. You have to be team tank or team playoffs. Team Green/Benning or Team Fire Everyone. You can either love Hughes or Makar but you can't have positive things to say about both of them. It's not as if everyone thinks this way, but there is such a vocal minority that decides to pick a side a dig in.
  16. I don't think there is really such a thing as "big boy panties"... not to kink shame or anything.
  17. Maybe. Maybe not. Brian Rafalski was about the same size as Hughes. Crosby called him one of the most underrated defenders of all time. Good on the PK.
  18. People that think Hughes cannot play D are stuck in a different era. The ability to play D is no longer just about being physical on forwards and having the size to move guys out of the way. There is more than one way to be effectively defensively and Hughes does this with awareness, hockey sense, and a good stick. He'll only get better on the other side of the puck.
  19. Beagle, Sutter, and Roussel all played limited minutes in Game 6. Really needed them to bring some energy. They were absolutely flat with no excuse. Sutter with no speed on the forecheck. Roussel with tons of speed but no efficiency. Beagle unfortunately lost a key draw that lead to the Theodore goal. The good news about the emergence of Demko is that if the Canucks do decide to re-sign Marky, Demko becomes a very tradeable asset. Add a Loui/Sutter (or both) contract to a trade involving Demko and that would help clear up some cap space. The Canucks are still a top-6 winger and a #2 dman away from contention. But god damn. Overall just so proud of this team and thankful for their effort that has given me such enjoyment during such a $&!#ty era.
