  1. I fear that JB will build a contender only to be fired just before it takes flight due to the complaints of the impatient fan base. Watch for the next GM to claim all the glory and credit in fans eyes.

Tanev, Hamhuis and Ehrhoff weren’t acquired by Burke / Nonis.  Hughes has the potential to easily surpass them but right now it’s just potential.  Benning’s best NHL D to date Stecher is around the same level as Hutton (one of the rare Gillis drafts).

I am of the mindset the GM and coach can be a part of the team through various stages of development, always likened to the over cliched " Detroit model ". Bu tthey had the same game plan for years and years before they turned into a powerhouse.

That said JB has a strong ability to seek out young talent, it remains to be seen whether he can truly make the moves needed when this team matures. Meaning right now we have what ? Horvat, Pettersson, Boeser, Hughes, Juolevi, Demko, DiPietro all as potential big pieces down the road.

Can JB add through trade and Free Agency the complimentary pieces or that top six forward, top four defenseman to build a true contender ? we just don't know yet. It is refreshing to see JB evolve as the team does too though so I would suggest this should not be a problem. Remember this is his first GM job and after making moves or anchored himself to players re: Gudbranson he has shown a willingness to move from those players and try other options.

I think Vancouver should be able to without a doubt find another couple surefire NHLers in the upcoming drafts before this team starts pushing to be a Playoff contender regardless.

I would hope ownership gives the GM and coach the opportunity to see it through, if not as natural progression it should not be the end of the World if the Canucks reach a stage and then bring in someone who can add the right pieces for a more mature team.
