  1. Once we sign a couple of long term deals the NHL will change the rules and punish us retroactively, based on their track record.
  2. For those complaining Boeser isn’t signed while also complaining Benning isn’t a good negotiator... patience. Time is on our side.

Ive been really happy with almost all of Bennings signings in the last 2 years.

Boeser's deal will get done. But, we do need to trade a 3+ Million dollar player. One of Baertschi, Beagle, Sutter, Tanev or Eriksson will need to be traded

Something like Baer & Eriksson, 3rd in 2020 to Ottawa

For Ryan & Boedker(easy to demote, contract done next spring), & one of their 2020 2nd's

Melnyk would LOVVVVVE the $ disparity here..

Have we re-signed Jordan Subban yet?!?!?!

  3. Haha you weren’t the only one to miss that. But maybe he’s just that good!
  4. Promising team= players sign at reasonable terms. Bottom dwelling team= GM has to overpay to fill the roster. Maybe Benning was never such a terrible negotiator after all?

Guys want the best chance to win + money + family concerns + city all factor in.  Having Petey and Hughes and our city = more attractive to UFAs.

People, including myself, often lose sight of that fact. Even Eriksson's contract wasn't terrible at the time it was signed. He wanted to come here and play with the twins so it was a reasonable contract. Nobody anticipated he would fall off a cliff when he gets here.

Alf- Yes this is exactly what made me realize this. There are so many factors in whether a GM can get a good deal or not. In my mind Bending has done as well as could with the cards he has been dealt at each stage.

    Free Agency Poll

I have never been so happy with Free Agency. They made real improvements and didn’t break the bank.
  6. We need defensive depth. Sign him to a reasonable contract and let him fulfill a 5-6 role.
  7. What the Focht? Just messing around. Don’t know this player.
  8. Presumably because we don’t have extra picks to burn like these other teams.
  9. You know, this makes a lot of sense. The price for him will be depressed somewhat due to locker room concerns that I think have been grossly exaggerated. We need the scoring and he will be eager to continue rebuilding his reputation.
  10. I wonder if we are all underestimating how badly JB may wish to get rid of Eriksson after he mouthed off to the media. I wouldn’t be surprised if no ome else wants Eriksson and Lucic is seen as the lesser of two evils. I don’t have a problem with it if he waives the NMC.
  11. Mikey DiPietro with horrible leg injury. We just can’t catch a break.

  12. I wonder if a hybrid system would work. Bottom five have an equal lottery for the top five picks. All other teams are placed according to how many points they earn after elimination. Teams that get knocked out earlier have more games to earn those points but there are no guarantees if they keep sucking. Prevents tanking among the the bottom five and provides more incentive and reward for playing meaningful games at the end of the season for everyone else.
  13. Good things: - tanking was not rewarded and may be dead for good. - Colorado didn’t get 1st overall from the Sens -Hughes and Kakko go East - We didn’t come in 12th like I expected
  14. Disappointed in 10th but glad this draft may be the final nail in the coffin for tanking as two teams jumped into the top three. I would prefer a lottery weighted toward toward the best record after teams are eliminated from playoff contention. Sick of meaningless games to end the season.
  15. Yes correct. That is what I was referring to. Doesn't it essentially provide cap relief at this point for them? I suppose as mentioned above if they are actually paying real money to get that relief the answer is no.
  16. Does the recapture penalty actually benefit Florida by helping them reach the cap floor? If so they be happy to have him retire. Could make it difficult to execute some of the scenarios outlined above.
  17. I fear that JB will build a contender only to be fired just before it takes flight due to the complaints of the impatient fan base. Watch for the next GM to claim all the glory and credit in fans eyes.

@112 He’s going to Detroit once they move Holland up. No chance that’s happening.

Benning's contract signed in 2018 takes him until the end of the 2020/21 season.

Since he's signed that contract he has struck gold with Pettersson and has acquired more gold in Hughes. This draft at home gives him a good chance to build more on that success.

Jim will not be leaving anytime soon.

To be clear I think Benning has done a great job over all. He has taken some risks with reclamation projects that were no actual risk to us, and some of them have panned out. Not worried about this year or next for him but often the GM behind a successful rebuild is not the one who reaps the glory later. Would like for that not to be the case this time.

  18. This thread is pretty much our only solace right now. Appreciate your work.
  19. As dark as things may be, at least we aren’t Sens fans. I should know, I live in Ottawa.

also the sens, my god, feel bad for them at least they have one good thing in brady tkachuk

  20. Unpopular opinion but I find Scotch revolting. It’s like taking a magnificent Irish Whiskey and putting some dirt and peat in it. That being said, I confess my tastes are not sophisticated. Give me a delicious glass of Jameson and I’m a happy man.
  21. Evil Benning: So convinced I am right I will refuse a pick and take the prospect I want instead!

Also Benning: I will lie to the world and claim that no draft picks were offered and that this prospect was the best I could get!

    Also Benning: ???? Profit

How does it make sense in the whiners heads? He wasn’t able to get a pick for the rental guys we were offering. Other players are more likely to be traded at the draft instead.

Why is this so hard to comprehend? We have the UFAs we have largely because pretty much no one else wanted them. Otherwise they would have signed with a better team. Hard to get value from scraps.
