  1. flash back 6 years ago, I had wanted Bo Horvat so bad but did not expect the Canucks to get him, but they made a dream come true. To this date, this is one of my favourite drafts for the Canucks in recent history, getting Bo. also lol Pierre McGuire losing his stuff about the deal
  2. Huh, usually the hold this later into July. None the less, will be fun to see our most recent draft picks a few days later in action right away.
  3. Edmonton hired on Dave Tippett who did coach Loui Eriksson when they were both part of the Stars organization. Would not surprise me though with Jim's Connection to Lucic, Tippetts connection with Loui that this reality of a deal could very well occur.
  4. Kinda disappointing that other than removing the "Vancouver" and updating the stick in the rink patch, looks kinda boring. Seriously the Canucks need a brand new design team, they lack creativity.
  5. If you get Granlund, you automatically stick him beside Bo. He easily has offensive flare and two way acumen that would allow him to be very successful beside Bo. He doesn't really play centre, not since his first few seasons in Minny, but later was moved to the wing where he has spent most of his time flanking Mikko Koivu and former Wild Nino Nieddereiter. He is a very versatile but highly skilled forward, so might be a hard deal to pull him out of Smashville. However, Nashville gave away a promising guy in Fiala to get Granlund, so I doubt they part with him right away. However, if they do decide they want to free up cap space to chase after Matt Duchene, who David Poile seems to really really like him. He went after him before he was dealt to Ottawa a year ago, and went after him at the trade deadline. Gotta think he will go hard for him in FA, however, Nashville is lacking cap space. https://lastwordonhockey.com/2019/05/26/nashville-predators-defence-at-crossroads/ Would they be willing to part with Granlund as a cap dump for a lesser return? Something like Goldobin and a mid round pick for Granlund would be something I would be willing to do. Leivo-Pettersson-Boeser Pearson-Horvat-Mikkel Granlund Baertschi-Sutter-MacEwen Motte-Beagle-Virtanen IR: Roussel
  6. I know once they make the selection Ill support the pick going forward, but really don't want Caufield, Broberg or Kaliyev. Would be fine with other guys but those 3 strike me with too many question marks in their game personally. I am excited for the draft, but also a bit weary too especially with much of the smoke swirling around Broberg as a key interest for JB. I am very skiddish about taking players who lack processing skills and ability to make good decisions especially if they are a Dman. As for Caulfield, still concerned about his size and lack of speed for a player his size. Kaliyev, too one dimensional. Nevertheless, if the Canucks were to take them i would be behind them 100% but for now, I will remain on the side of not wanting to take them.
  7. Lol Paul Fenton, offers Zucker for Boeser.

It's actually not that bad of a trade. Zucker's proven to be really durable the past couple of seasons, plus he already has one 30+ goal season.

That being said, I'd still say no to this trade.

    3. Ghostsof1915

      Ghostsof1915

That would be an amazing coup for the Wild. As Brock is from Burnsville, Minnesota.

But if they really made that offer I wouldn't be surprised if Benning laughed and hung up the phone.

    4. Jaku

      Jaku

Lol Paul Fenton. I have no response.

  8. I do think despite his past international success, he was exposed due to the amount of speed a lot of the teams brought over to Slovakia for the tourney. He simply doesn't have the speed and motor to get to places where he should be and that was already apparent in the NHL, and it got further exposed in the tournament. Kind of like a Brendan Gaunce kind of situation where they both have the smarts to know where they should be but physically they just aren't able to. But I do agree the plus/minus stat doesn't say he is a bad player, but goes to show though he also isn't a defensive impact either.
  9. Luke Schenn also did a lot of extensive work with Adam Oates to improve his stick handling. At times you even saw Luke become aggressive in the rush. He isn't flashy at all and can sometimes be flat footed but man since watching his game in Toronto and Philly, he looks like a completely different player. I wouldn't mind having him around as a depth guy for years to come. Rubbing shoulders next to this guy on the bench will do wonders for our young core. His resiliency is what you want in a player.
  10. JT MIller and Colin Miller are the two names that I would easily take on this team. JT Would fit nicely flanking Pettersson and Boeser, while Colin would give us that ever elusive RHD with a huge shot from the point to play on the PP unit. Considering how cap crunched Vegas and Tampa would be, I don't think the asking price would be huge to clear out their salaries.
  11. In this hypothetical, if it was between the two, I'd easily take Podkolzin. Even if he doesn't hit his ceiling of being a surefire top six stud, he has the necessary tools to become a very useful complementary/role player. Caufield has the biggest potential to become elite but if it isn't producing offensively, there isn't a whole lot to his game outside of scoring to contribute to.
  12. A player I would curiously wonder about and consider taking if he slipped to our pick in the second round would be Egor Afanasyev. I know Russia, red flag already for most people, but this kid came over to the USA in 2016 and has been honing his skills in the USHL in Muskegon for several years now. Physically is imposing at 6'3'' 203 lbs, can play center, but due to the depth in Muskegon he was moved to wing. Was also part of the package sent to Windsor in the Mikey DiPietro deal in the OHL. Is currently committed to Michigan State University, but according to the The Hockey News profile, he will consult with the NHL team that drafts him whether to go the University route or go to the OHL. Seems like a kid who is committed to being here in North America and already has a desirable skillset that the Canucks sorely lack. Size, skill, speed, and offensive creativity.
  13. I have this odd feeling Podkolzin will drop significantly because his lack of offensive production, but once he makes it into the NHL, he is going to make lots of teams look silly for not taking him sooner. Kind of seems similar is play style and situation as Filip Forsberg, where Forsberg was touted as a top 5 pick, slipped due to his lack of offensive production, and lights it up in the NHL.
  14. Elliotte Friedman's 31 thoughts suggests that Colin Miller has fallen out of favor in Las Vegas, and the Vegas team blog also suggests that Miller might have fallen into Gerard's doghouse.

RHD with a big shot, who can man the powerplay?  I have a feeling JB sniffs around this potential deal.

Another ex-Bruin for Benning. Yep, I can see that.

that cap hit certainly works. I wonder what McPhee would ask tho... I wouldn't want to give up a prospect like Woo for him.

@NHL'er --- Oh, absolutely. I was thinking of it as a starting point for a deal. I'm not great at trade proposals. Was thinking it would be more of a place to start. Probably would require more -- but than again, we got Leivo for Carcone -- so anything is possible.

      I wouldn't deal a Woo/RFA rights to Tryamkin/Lind/Gadjovich for Miller, though

  15. Dallas beat reporters saying Bo Horvat would be the starting price.... HARD NO
  16. Its funny how you start discussing the value of dealing a particular important player and realize once you make the deal, you are looking for the exact player you just traded. Once you trade Bo, you look for a guy who does the very same thing that he does. Bo is not going anywhere for a long time.
  17. Could also see Tim Schaller and Ryan Spooner join him too. Could be a Boston-born/team line Schaller-Gaudette-Spooner
  18. Could likely see the Comets Top 4 scorers all in new jersey's next fall. Gaunce is likely to go unqualified and could be the same with Kero and Boucher who are all RFA's. MacEwen likely in Vancouver. Comets top six could be look very very different next season.
  19. Sad to see him go, I really do believe he is a smart player, but just doesn't have the motor to get to the places he knows he needs to be at. I hope he gets an opportunity elsewhere, I do think he is a quality role player.
  20. True, but the reason they did that was Derrick had arbitration rights, and had a 22 point season and likely would have commanded a lot more in arbitration. So not qualifying him allowed them to bypass the arbitrator and sign him to a much more friendly contract. But now that you bring it up, it makes me scared of the same situation playing over again lol
  21. This kid has silky mitts. Very much as that ability to overpower you physically, but has the skill to dangle through you too. Tantalizing skill set he has, and he played in every situation for the Comets. Played on the PK, net front presence on the PP, and constantly played wing but taking key faceoffs on his strong side. He is ready to see NHL duty full time, but he needs a good training camp to earn himself a spot to showcase this. Motte-Beagle-MacEwen to start next season, but could easily see him move up the lineup possibly bump Virtanen out of a regular top 9 spot.
