  1. They are giving Rathbone every chance to stick with the club, shows a lot how they feel about Juolevi at this point.
  2. Best part was Podkolzin not knowing his teammates very well, learning the game, and a rookie yet is the first on the scene to come protect his teammate. Podz is a beauty.
  3. Can't really say any Canuck was good tonight but the one player that made a mark and perhaps helped his case the most was Podkolzin. He looked a lot like the Podkolzin I have come to know and watched a lot of the past two seasons.
  4. Not a good score, but considering we basically have 1 full NHL line and 1 NHL dpairing while the rest are AHL or fringe players vs a Seattle team that basically has all their regulars, we aren't doing all that bad. We have heavily outshot them. The process is right, I wonder what a full team would look like. Not all that concerned., we have had a good process tonight.
  5. I have liked what I've seen from Burroughs. I don't think I like him as a top six option but I like him as a 7/8 option. Seems very low maintenance kind of player, just goes quietly about his business, skates well enough, is physical, and makes the simple pass you need.
  6. I think I was just creating discussion, asking whether it was a possibility if Lockwood showed well if it could be explored. I'm not selling Motte short nor am I saying I like Lockwood over Motte.
  7. Lockwood was used in the first preseason game but since then hasn't seen any. Not saying we should trade Motte, but perhaps you could acquire a player who does play the PK but provides a different element like size, physicality, more offense. Idk just spitballing here, not trying to get rid of Motte because I love him, but due to his injuries and his deal coming up, I do wonder if you can leverage his reputation to get a piece that helps now and also fills another need. Obviously don't want to do that to only open up another need. I like to explore options haha.
  8. Do you feel should Lockwood succeed in the same spot as Motte did, that it could open up the possibility to trade Motte to find a different kind of piece for the roster. I mean its always good to have players who have speed and grit but I wonder considering we already have Hoglander and Garland under six feet who provide the same qualities of speed and tenacity whether it opens the door to find another piece for the roster that meets another need.
  9. Something I did noticed now with Sutter is out, is that all our centers are left handed shooters. I wonder on top of potentially finding a substitute for Hamonic, will be to find a right handed center to stand in until Sutter is back. It does make a difference especially in the defensive zone.
  10. Man Rathbone playing his 5th straight preseason game in a matter of 9 days. Considering the minutes that he has played to, have to wonder at what point he begins to feel the fatigue and his play reflects that fatigue. Sure looks like the team really wants to give him a look, suggesting that they are still undecided on him.
  11. Was watching Podkolzin's game like a hawk tonight haha. I'm a big supporter of him, you can see in his individual prospect thread how I champion him. As much as I like him I will nitpick a few things from him. 2 Things he did well 1) I thought he was very strong on the puck, you can tell he has a heavy stick and doesn't let battles get away from him. He looked a lot more authoritative tonight compared to his last two games. This will win the coaching staff over is that he is hard along the boards and very meticulous with his stick work, whether making good chips along the boards, tying up his man in battles, and leveraging that size and strength. Thought he had a very strong battle level defensively, despite a -2 rating which wasn't really his fault at all tonight. 2) He looked a lot more confident in tonights game, and something I'm looking forward to as he progresses in rest of the preseason is to see more authority in his game. Not in the sense of puck domination and offensive creativity (although that would be nice) but he was engaging physical contact and battles with more power and strength. You coiuld see he was leaning on players a lot more and using his strong core and big body to leverage on players which I really liked and he looked a lot more engaged in the forecheck compared to the past few games. Watching a lot of his game the past two seasons, when Podkolzin is confident his motor is running on high (sorta like how we saw Hoglander tonight). We saw a bit more of that from Podkolzin which led to several offensive turnovers. Even with the puck I noticed the past few games he was often looking over his shoulder or playing more east to west kind of hockey, but tonight especially on that one chance in the third, he put his head down and went to the net with purpose and created a good chance. 3 Things to work on 1) Needs to get a bit quicker, noticed his skating stride he shredded a lot of time and dug in but they looked at times very heavy. Podkolzin was never touted as a super fleet of foot skater so I'm not expecting him to become like Will Lockwood or Jannik Hansen, but he needs to quicken his step to be more effective at his strengths such as forecheck and tenaciousness along the boards. Additionally it might help him cut in quicker when he drives to the net, which was a regular move he has done throughout his young career. The NHL speed is something that I think he is adapting to the most at the moment, as the KHL is a lot slower tempo. 2) Needs to trust his teammates and let them cover their defensive positioning. There were a few times I noticed where the 4th line of Pods-Focht-Lockwood got hemmed in their own zone in the 2nd and 3rd period, when the play was down low opposite of Podkolzin's side, he would drop back way too deep and even cross into the other side to help out defensively that was meant for either Focht or Lockwood to defend, while leaving his point man alone at times. Something of Podkolzin's defensive play is that if he doesn't like what he sees he often steps in to do it himself. He did this a lot at the WJC this past year for team Russia and for CSKA. As admirable it was for him to do it, he needs to be more disciplined positionally to hold his ground, let his teammates do their job and focus on his own space. 3) He tends to hover too close to his teammates on the breakout on the ozone which is why he doesn't get the puck very much. He needs to learn to quickly spin off his check and find open space and not close in on his own teammates, as it serves as another obstacle for his teammates to go around but it just eliminates himself as a passing option. Again I think this a positional discipline he needs to work on and will come in time as he begins to trust his linemates. I know a lot of people are saying that he needs to get used to the size of the NHL rink, however, since 2019 the KHL has mainly switched to sized rinks that are closer to N.A sized. (Typical NHL size rink is 60 meters by 26) as now the KHL has switched to Finland's ice model of (60 meters by 28). So in theory Podkolzin isn't really having to adjust to much, I think its more of the speed of the NHL. The KHL is notoriously a lot slower in pace but much more puck possession. Its not that Podkolzin is slow or that he isn't up to NHL speed, its that in order for him to be at his optimal rate, he needs to quicken his step.
  12. I have liked Petan's camp so far. I liked that he was able to be very efficient in the draws and was able to play the PK as well. Makes me wonder what kind of role he could get if he continues to show well here in the preseason.
  13. I agree, considering how lines have been deployed this preseason and training camp, seems like a lot of questions regarding the top nine. Seeing how strong Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander were together tonight, Green may choose to stay with that trio. They seemed to read off each other well in all three zones. It is starting to make a lot of sense why Green is looking at Miller at center, to role three lines out that can pour on the pressure. Not that I agree with it but I understand it Considering how much Miller and Garland have spent together, Sutter's absense and Green's adherence to pairs this is how I see the opening night roster with some holes to fill. ? - Pettersson - Boeser ? - Miller- Garland Pearson-Horvat-Hoglander Di Giuseppe - Dickinson -? Could see Podkolzin on the right side with Dickinson to slowly bring him along, he seems good enough to hold his own defensively but hasn't quite found his confidence in the ozone yet. Petan looked good with Miller tonight, could see him flank alongside Miller and Garland. leaving a pretty big question who slots with Petey and Boeser.
  14. Rathbone needs to keep it simple. He is working himself out of a roster spot with these turnovers.
  15. I wonder with his time here, how many bench minors have been assessed for too many men. I don't remember ever having that issue before. Seems odd how many times this team has this issue haha.
  16. 1) I hope Sutter is doing okay, not for the hockey side but just in general. Kinda scary not really knowing what is going on with his fatigue is concerning. 2) Hope Boeser is okay, i dont recall him getting hit hard or anything of the sorts against Seattle, kinda makes you wonder how his wrist is feeling right now.
  17. Very interesting that Green is electing to ice rosters that contain some veterans and a lot of the NHL depth pieces and very few of the younger names like Klimovich, Woo, and Wouters. Havent even seen Plasek, Nielsen, Leipert or Keppen. Seems like he wants to get the likely Callups to know the system tem well so its a seamless plug in.
  18. Im surprised that the Canucks haven't waived some of their players to help sneak some of them through the wire.
  19. Best part of the game was Gudbranson jumping MacEwen for no reason. Sutter is going to be absolutely floored by Gudbranson's unncessary grit that he will make Guddy a mainstay on that blueline for just the sheer truculence, but in reality, this team will capitalize and skate circles around him. Very big win for us...
  20. I'm sorta done seeing Miller as a center, it was a nice experiment, but that has to end, its not a thing. Put him back with Petey and Boeser.
  21. Yup! https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/cknw-serious-look-canucks-radio-rights
