  1. Been listening to a lot of scouting podcasts/interviews from Shane Malloy, Chris Peters, and Corey Pronman. A name they said to keep an eye on is Tom Willander. Swedish RHD, 6'1 179lbs. Played 30 mins at the Ivan Hlinka tourney for Sweden. Scouted to be an all-around two way dman. Corey Pronman saying he is a minute munching dman who plays all situations is a guy who is ascending up the draft lists. I'd be interested to see if perhaps the Canucks trade down to gain an extra pick to help move out salary while also taking stylistically a player they desperately need in their pipeline. Some lists have him as early going 16-18, and as late as early 2nd round. https://thehockeywriters.com/tom-willander-2023-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/
  2. A lot of former and current Canucks playing in this Canada vs Latvia game at the IIHF world championships.

    Current: Myers, Bear, Silovs

Former: Toffoli, Abols, Kenins, Carcone, Hunt.

  3. Not suspending Pietrangelo for the rest of the series is going to lead to retribution opportunities.
  4. Makes me wonder whether potentially we move down the draft to gain an extra 2nd or 3rd to help move a Garland, Myers, Boeser etc. Sounds like the ask is high to take on bad contracts and term. May not even get an asset in return, may even well be that it will be a Max Pacioretty like deal were basically he was given away for nothing.
  5. Much like the Ranger's series, starting to see New Jersey's kids start to elevate their game after likely having themselves feel overwhelmed in teh first two games. Jersey is really starting to force Carolina to match their speed which is never a good way to defend NJ.
  6. Interesting choice for Colliton. I guess the physicality of last game factored into the decision and hoping to inject Kannok Leipert's physical push back but to also have an extra dman on hand. No Raty or Podkolzin tonight. EDIT: NVM Just as I thought though, Regush provides a lot of sandpaper. If Kannok Leipert is warming up, either Juulsen or another d is a game time decision.
  7. Carolina play such a straight line game they come at you in waves of relentless pressure. NJ looks overwhelmed just like they did in the first two games vs the Rangers.
  8. He had a fight against Tyrell Golbourne for the Ontario Reign where both laid haymakers, but Arseneau, didn't play a game after that one...my guess, may have hurt his hand in the fight.
  9. At the end of game 3, Jacob Pelletier for the Wranglers gave Martin three jabs to the glove, Bains came over the buried him behind the net with a stiff shove. He just stared down at him waiting for him to come up and tackle him/punch him, get mobbed by other Wranglers. Several other times, The Wranglers goons like McLain, Rooney, and Duehr took runs at Rathbone, Johansson, and Karlsson and Bains jumped in quickly without reserve to defend his teammates. This guy has a fearlessness about him that allows him to swarm around the crucial areas of the ice. Guy has high hockey IQ, just at the right places on the ice at the right times and makes the right play. Plays up and down the lineup when called upon. Has the skills to put up points but really the way he will make it into the NHL is to play that swiss army knife/two way winger who plays in those hard areas. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-prospects-tristen-nielsen-and-arshdeep-bains-playing-key-roles-in-abbotsfords-playoff-push Stylistically, I see Chris Higgins versatility and smartness to his game, and the heaviness and intangibles you see in Tanner Pearson.
  10. I remember when the Canucks acquired Goldy, one of his major concerns was how to get his Lamborghini up to Vancouver from San Jose. I laughed at first thinking that was hilarious, but watching Goldy's instagram, his very casual (and looks a lot like lackadaisical play) behaviour on the ice, and his preoccupation with style and flare...he seems more driven by the lifestyle of being a hockey player - not so much the drive to win. He is a likeable character, but I don't imagine that can suffice. He needs drive and desire, which lacks in his game and its not hard to see that. When he goes into corners, in the defensive zone, and how he tracks in the neutral zone, he knows what he needs to do, but just doesn't do it. Goldy would show a lot of his offseason training on instagram, and a lot of the drills he does doesn't require a lot of effort - just shooting pucks and little dipsy doodle deke drills that look pretty on a video but not usually replicated in game situations. He does a lot of stationary drills and doesn't move his feet much even in the drills that require more skating engagement. I think he has game breaking skill - said the same sentiment when he was with us, but the lack of drive and desire doesn't allow him to show it on a consistent basis. he has had several NHL and AHL coaches in his ear about improving his work ethic and work habits, but it doesn't appear to have sunken in for him.
  11. Especially coming September 15, teams have already set their rosters and very little movement occurs right before training camp. The more and more I think about it, we may have to stomach seeing Myers for the next season, may not be til next TDL before we see a potential move for Myers. So it may very well look like Bear, Hronek, and Myers as our right side next season.
  12. AHL doesn't track time on ice, but for the most part I noticed Klimovich barely saw the third period. Was at the game and was having trouble finding out the line combos once Stevens left the game in the early first, but Klimovich rarely saw the ice in the game. Had a bad giveaway in the second period and from what I can remember, he had maybe 2 more shifts for the rest of the game. Nielsen began on the first line with Dowling and Karlsson but as the game wore on, he fell down the lineup and also fell out of rotation quickly. Basically became a three line game for Jeremy Colliton Bains-Dowling-Karlsson Hoglander-Sasson-Rau Alfaro-Wouters-Gatcomb/Nielsen.
  13. I looked back at the game video and saw Stevens go head over heels when a Wrangler tripped in front of him. Looks like he got a concussion, landed on his head on the way down. Big loss if he does have one - was very slow to get up and had bambi legs trying to get back to the bench. I'd imagine Aatu Raty finds his way back into the lineup, but it could also be Michael Regush if they are looking for some grit and sandpaper. Doesn't sound like Arseneau is ready yet, he hasn't skated with the team at practice. Hopefully Podkolzin is ready for Friday - much rather see him in and get some playoff game action.
  14. Wouters is playing great playoff hockey. He needs an ELC
  15. Losing John Stevens early in the first basically forced Colliton into rolling 3 lines. Gatcomb and Alfaro havent seen much 5v5 time except special teams. Certainly hurts thrm on thrr PK amd faceoffs. Dowling and Sasson havent been able to win any draws this game. We shall how that affects the enregy level into the third period.
  16. I like that they are giving Lekkerimaki time to develop. He is still 18 years old, let him compete against men and away from the spot light in BC. He is really starting to blossom into that threat offensively in the Allsvenskan. Lets see if he can take it to the SHL. Would be cool to see him in Farjestad and play with Lucas Forsell, but both play a very similar style of game, I wonder if that would take away from one another. Farjestad IMO would be the better location for Lekkerimaki because Farjestad is one of few SHL teams that prefer fewer import players, allowing more of their own home grown swedish players to step into bigger roles. Lucas Forsell's development is a testament to that. Where Leksand often likes to use import players, they have as many as 9 players that are not from Sweden - and many of them play prominent roles (John Quinnville, Carter Ashton, Carter Camper [former Utica Comet], and Justin Kloos). I follow their goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo on youtube as he vlogs, and the coaching staff in Leksand is a very finicky coach and doesn't really like to play the youth. However, there is tons of opportunity for him in Leksands to be a front line offensive player, as Leksand was one of the lowest scoring teams in the SHL, and Lekkerimaki's offensive tools would greatly help give them a trigger man. They have a lot of grinders and playmakers but no one particularly that can score. IMO Farjestad is the more ideal location, but I can see the path where he could succeed in Leksand as they have a lot of former NHL and AHL veterans that could surround him and help him develop his game.
  17. Allvin emphasized in his year end media availability meeting that he is happy to have JT Miller on the Canucks but made it known, it doesn't mean he won't look into options that arise. Pettersson, Hughes, and likely Demko are the only players he won't look at moving, but everyone is fair game...including JT. I am open to moving JT if it brings a young promising center. Not just an up and coming center, but one that is making an impact now. I think Jim and Allvin have made it clear that would be the clear ask too.
  18. His situation appears different to Petey's but yes Patrick Johnson's article confirms his agent saying he will go. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-tyler-myers-will-play-for-canada-at-world-championships My assumption Hockey Canada is willing to pay on behalf of Ethan Bear
  19. Ethan Bear also among those as well going to play for Team Canada at the IIHF worlds. Tyler Myers a strange one tbh but could be crucial for him to show well and perhaps move the needle towards teams wanting to take him off our hands.
  20. Good deal for Minny. Was hoping that he would slip to FA, but he provides a lot of solid secondary scoring and versatility up and down the lineup.
  21. Despite being the Isles, Carolina is limping into this series. It was a very physical series that Carolina isn't as used to playing. I'd imagine that might start to be a factor early on in the few few games. I think NJ's speed will show early because I think the Hurricanes will look fatigued, but Carolina has a good system that can really lock down the neutral zone and stifle teams with speed. If Carolina can keep NJ neutralized and forced to play a grinding/slow pace game they have a shot. But if NJ finds a way to break through with their speed and skill, I like their chances as they have more game breaking skill.
  22. Im sure Quinn Hughes is elated for his two brothers to find success and move forward in the playoffs. But I can almost be certain that he would rather it be him playing these meaningful games in Late April and May. Im sure there is a part of him that is very jealous that NJ has become this successful and Jack being a big reason for it, while Luke is on the horizon.
