  1. Is it valid to like a piece of art/music/etc and hold that it is objectively bad art/music/etc?

We are allowed our guilty pleasures.  We know it's not great, but damn, it's satisfying.

I don't think so. With every piece of art, there's both an objective and subjective element to it. How it hits you on an emotional level is entirely subjective, and based solely on one's own mental makeup. The objective element would be the skill involved in creating that particular piece of art. I would argue that a piece of art that is skillfully crafted, but doesn't appeal to anybody on an emotional level doesn't hold the same value as a piece of art that isn't as skillfully crafted, but appeals to a larger group of people. That being said, if a piece of art is skillfully crafted and can appeal to a large group of people, that particular piece would trump the others.

      Just my take.
