  1. http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/off/5791169302.html Affordable rent already. The tax is working.
  2. Certainly I don't appreciate the Clark government and think its latency on these issues is appalling, but this seems like a big step forward and I really don't see why we're against it.
  3. You're critical of the article posted, but what do you think they're going to be doing exactly if not working to build housing that is adequate and meets the needs of its more vulnerable tenants?
  4. I actually think it's pretty cool and admire you for it. I just don't think it's suitable social housing.
  5. Regardless, it doesn't seem appropriate to place seniors and persons with developmental disabilities in shipping containers. I think one of the richest places in the world should be well above that.
  6. Yes, but costs are going to be associated with land more than anything unless I don't know what I'm talking about. When property is so expensive and you're building for the long-term, better buildings with more capacity make sense, no?
  7. Materials aren't the expensive part of housing in this city. It's the land. Why use sea containers?
  8. http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/british-columbia/b-c-disability-rates-go-up-september-1-1.3742686 Imagine trying to get by on that. We're all bitter, but some of us are very out of touch with what people with legitimate barriers and limitations are forced to brave re: housing and general affordability in BC.
  9. I don't think this is for you. PWDs, seniors, youth transitioning out of care, and otherwise vulnerable people are the ones who've been hit hardest by the housing madness. Units for these groups are direly needed. What does one do when they have nothing, can't work and have lived here their entire life?
  10. Hey I apologize

  11. I don't think the older generation should have things just handed to it.
  12. You really don't. I can see why you would disagree with the post, but I'm not sure where the attacks on my character come from.
  13. Hey now- you don't know me and I'd appreciate not having my character insulted because I believe people can politely speak up for themselves.
  14. I guess we'll have to respectfully disagree. If someone needs a seat they can get it. Words aren't hard and this is really a non-issue imo.
  15. The seats are there if they need them, and if they need them they need only ask. Unless the disabled/elderly person happens to be mute (which is also a one-in-a-million instance) there should be no problem. You're not above making requests from people once you hit a certain age, and nobody who doesn't need the seat would refuse to give it up when asked to. I really don't see what the problem is. e: I get pretty annoyed when people think something's broken because they need to say a few words to someone for a minor problem in their day to be fixed.
  16. Were you reading with secondary resources or no?
  17. ehh, that someone's young doesn't mean they're entirely able-bodied. a few months ago an article was posted in OT describing how someone was criticized quite harshly by a Vancouver bus driver for using a priority seat so as to not antagonize her heart condition, which the driver assumed she didn't have on the basis of her presentation. you never really have the full story. and if someone has 65+ yrs behind them I would hope they've been through worse than not having a seat prepared for them, osteoporosis be damned e: and people can ask for a seat if they really need it
  18. identify with most of these but the bolded especially. 'science' is another one and worse depending on context.
