  1. Anyone who thinks the Canucks could trade up for Bedard is delusional. Not a team in the league would trade the #1 pick when Bedard is available. The only way the Canucks get Bedard is if we luck out and win the lottery... and we need to be low in the standings to qualify. If Demko comes back and starts to stand on his head and give the team some wins... that chance will disappear. Even if we were the worst team in the league, we still only have a 25% chance of getting the first pick. The best we can hope for is luck allows us to draft high. The Coilers got McJesus that way, we could possibly as well... but its a huge longshot.... probably in the 5% range.
  2. Good news for the Canucks chances of drafting well with the Isles pick. Mathew Barzal is out indefinitely with a lower body injury after a collision with Craig Smith of the Bruins. https://www.nhl.com/islanders/news/isles-day-to-day-barzal-out-indefinitely-with-lower-body-injury/c-341296188 Bo Horvat is continuing to produce for them... had a goal against the Penguins for 4 in total. But without Barzal, I don't think they can keep the Wildcard spot they have now.
  3. Thinking about Myers and what is wrong with him: This guy was an excellent young defenseman... as others have mentioned, he won the Calder in his rookie season. And he played well in Winnipeg for his first few seasons. He has all the physical assets... monster size and reach, good strength, good skater, enough truculence. The one thing he seems to lack now is mental composure. Almost all of his errors come out of bad decision making. He seems to be operating either in a constant state of mental panic, or he is overthinking to the point he leaves himself no time to make a good decision. Almost every pass is a bad one, almost every decision to position himself is wrong. Its all in his head. If there is anyone who should think about finding a technique to relax himself mentally, this is the guy... he should seriously think about starting Yoga and Meditation... or get a complete body massage before every game to relax. He has put himself out of a once promising career by being unable to make good decisions.
  4. Good result... not the best... that would have been a regular time loss, but this will do. Team also feels ok about themselves.
  5. Kuz's hands are quite possibly even better than Pettersson's. He doesn't have the speed, the vision or the heavy shot, but when it comes to tips, stickhandling in close and getting a shot off fast, he just might be better.
  6. Nils Oman is having a good game... but that is limited by his lack of scoring and passing touch.
  7. Konecny was the cheapshot artist. Wasn't that hard, but Petey was not braced... and I think he got the wind knocked out of him. Miller was pissed and ready to go, but linesmen intervened and Konecny ran for the bench.
  8. Yes Petey did say without hesitation he'd sign an extension.... Rutherford needs to get it done.
  9. Great post game by Petey.... - Nice to hear his view of the Captaincy.... tells us he would take the responsibility very seriously... not lightly. Which is why he is considering the idea carefully. - Nice to hear he would like to do a longterm extension in Van... Rutherford: GET IT DONE. Game was good one... although we really did not need the two points, it is important to get some wins and for the key guys to play well and feel good about themselves. Silovs did not really have a great game, but he did get the win... he has good potential... but needs more time back in Abby.
  10. My Perspective: Leafs mortgage their future for a 32 year old highly skilled two way player. They seem to think they can win the Cup with high scoring forward lines... with one Center who knows how to play D. Forget the goaltending, forget the D. This is what Dumbass has been doing for the last 6 years.... trying to win a Cup with overwhelming forward firepower, and mediocre defense and goaltending. It didn't work the last 4 years, and I doubt it will work this year. Too bad they don't seem to realize that even when O'Reilly was at his best Captaining a Cup winner, he had an awesome defense behind him... and a hot goalie. Look at Pietrangelo, Parayko, Bouwmeester, Mikkola, Faulk, Bortuzzo, etc. None of them under 6', none of them under 200 lbs....most 6' 4'' or taller. Plus Jordan Binnington on fire. Now look at the Leafs' D and their goaltending. I doubt they get it done.
  11. Still a good loss.... they did score and make it reasonably close. If somehow they can get in the top four, they really have a chance a great pick.
  12. Myers is such a bozo... time running down and he stands around like a clown instead carrying the puck up ice. Had open ice in front of him... no one checking him. His hockey brain has completely gone.
  13. Canucks best D pairing on the ice, and the Rangers are making them look like AHLers. Rangers away uniforms are the best away in the league in my opinion... definitely classy and timeless.
  14. Yes, that's what happens when you have the clown show D in front of you which Demko, Martin and Delia have had all season. A goalie who is not really talented and really mentally tough simply breaks down. Understand this, and you understand just how good Demko was last season before his injury... and how good Markstrom was in his last couple years in Van. Which is why I really don't want to see Demko rushed back into service... he needs to be 150% ready physically AND have an improved D in front of him. If Silov gets one or two games, it won't hurt him... he is probably more confident right now than either Martin or Delia.
  15. Yes, Clark probably worked with him in the pre-season, but doubt he had much time since the NHL season started... he's been focused on the tire fire which is the Canucks' goalie situation.
  16. Silov deserves an NHL start... this season is a meaningless one anyway... so might as well give him a chance. Trip up to the big team also gives Clarke a chance to evaluate him and provide advice.
  17. Really can't blame Tocchet. The problems with defensive structure and player responsibility emerged under Green... for all his talk about playing an honest game, his team cheated every chance it got. Under Boudreau the team improved offensively, attacking play became much more fluid... but the defensive structure remained horrible. But the fact is, under either Boudreau or Tocchet, the team's lack of NHL caliber D-men is what the real problem is. Until the team acquires, either by drafting, signing free agents, or trades, another couple bonafide top 4 D, one of whom is a big mobile #2, (doesn't have to know how to score) the team is really going nowhere. That's what it comes down to... and that defensive deficit is what management has to spend their time and energy solving.
  18. Bad loss.... team performed badly in this game. A lot of missed opportunities... especially on the Power Play. I am not seeing any results from the changes made under Tocchet. This was the first game where the team really missed Horvat... typically when Horvat was here, when Pettersson or Miller didn't perform, Horvat did. Team had nothing going offensively except for Garland/Kuz/Dries. Team Defense remains abysmal... and I am not seeing the structural changes needed. BUT.... TANK ONGOING!!
  19. Yes, Horvat was taken for granted. That was obvious from their initial signing of him, failure to extend him early when they could have done that, and finally their failure to allow CAP room to sign him in his last year. Not that Bo Horvat was a Star, but he was a solid, reliable point getter, goal scorer, faceoff guy and utility man.
  20. The focus of the management group has to be laser sharp on acquiring defensive assets. So far I am not seeing that. They had all of the off-season last year, and they have had since December when it became obvious this was not a playoff team. Until they get down and really make improving the team defensively their #1 priority, the franchise will continue to fail to be a contender.
  21. Good loss. I guess you can blame Martin for letting in a couple early ones... but the team hung him out to dry so many times after that the end result really wasn't his fault. Good to see Petey continue his scoring... and Beauvillier continues to benefit from being on his line and the PP. Wondering what that is all about... maybe they are dangling Beauvillier as trade bait? Considering they signed Kuzmenko, and assuming they really want to keep him, then you would think they'd play him with Pettersson and get that line chemistry set for next season. But Rutherford's strategies continue to be murky.
  22. As I have said for the last two years... this team does not lack firepower... even with Horvat gone we can score. What it lacks is a competent D-Core... that is what needs addressing. If we had a competent set of defensemen, we would be in the playoffs, even with Martin and Delia. One of the big reasons Delia and Martin are not playing particularly well is they are shell-shocked from having the number of give-aways and lack of D-coverage. What concerns me is I am still waiting for management to make room the defensive upgrades the team needs. There are two ways to do that.... trades for D assets, or trades that dump CAP. Right now I am seeing nothing like that happening.
