  1. Putting your post in all caps does not make up for the fact it is not very well thought out.
  2. Bottom line, they lost a player for nothing. Could have sent him down earlier and avoided waivers. If there was interest in him, then they should have traded... even if that was for something as insignificant as future considerations. Poor asset management.
  3. No question Tocchet is a player's player... and he did what it took to succeed on the ice. But things have changed since his day. The question is whether he has the imagination and flexibility to adjust his own preferred style to the talents and style of the Canucks roster. It's always two elements... system... plus individual. Some coaches never really learn how to find the balance.
  4. For a first time tear the surgery is not rocket science... there are plenty of surgeons in Vancouver who would have zero problems doing the work. These surgeries are done thousands of times a year in BC. For a person who has blown out the same knee multiple times, then that is a different issue.... but I don't believe that is the case with Mikheyev... correct me if I'm wrong.
  5. They really need to finish bottom 4 to have a good chance at one the top 4 picks.
  6. Not exactly... The doctor's judgement is really important. And that is often dependent on how experienced they are and how many cases they have seen. My brother had an ACL problem which his doctor recommended he should have surgery on sooner rather than later... even though my brother said the leg felt fine. He decided to postpone the surgery to the fall because he wanted to enjoy the summer... and of course, midway through July it failed on him and he had to have full reconstruction.
  7. ACL tears are not black and white... sometimes you can operate on them for years. A doctor has to make an assessment based on what the scans are showing him and how the player reacts to the testing.
  8. The issue is next season. When all these guys are theoretically back.
  9. There is now an obvious pattern of the Canucks medical team and management making bad assessments of Free Agent signings or Traded players. It would seem there needs to be a wholesale housecleaning.
  10. This does explain why Mikheyev didn't seem to have much jump.
  11. Good... because they need to dump CAP. Preferably enough to keep Horvat.
  12. I wouldn't put too much importance on games versus Chicago or Columbus... best not to include them in any sample. Lets see how the team does in the next 10 games after the break.
  13. Even against a horrible team like Columbus, the Canucks still have trouble in their own zone. Running around, poor clearing attempts, etc. They are looking better on the PK tonight.
  14. Garland is showing his stuff for the GM's. Miller is trying to... but can't put away any of the multiple gimme's he has been handed.
  15. Gudbranson is fine when he's playing under an ultra structured system like Sutter had in Calgary a couple years back... but he's useless on a team when structure doesn't exist.
  16. GM's from around the league looking at both Vancouver and Columbus. Columbus is some awful team. They have two matching slacker/whiners in Gaudreau and Laine... both great in the regular season but disappear in the playoffs. Gaudreau won't be long in Columbus if the Blue Jackets get #1 pick.... they'll dump him to the first guilable GM who expresses interest.
  17. Best news this year... although price is a little high... but its only a two year extension so they are ok if he goes flat. Bad news is this means Horvat will likely not be back... they can't afford Kuzmenko's added 5.5 mil and Horvat too. And while Kuz is a fine offensive player, he is not the complete package that Horvat is...not as fast, not as physical, not a center, doesn't bring the faceoff wins.
  18. Carolina was a bubble team that year... it didn't even make the playoffs the next year. Carolina also rode another rookie goalie to the Cup... Cam Ward... who won the Conn Smythe in 2006 and then basically faded in the rest of his career. Hurricanes also had an easy path to the finals... their only challenging series was against New Jersey... who were a dwindling force after their 2003 win. The rest of the series, except against Montreal in the opener, they faced upset winners who were brought back to reality.
  19. The team is giving the opposition way too many 2 on 1's and 3 on 2's... not to mention giving the puck away in their zone... that is nothing to do with goaltending. A goalie who is facing that kind of challenge is going to let in goals... no matter how good they are. Demko made the team look good last season... he should have won the Vezina. But in the process he destroyed himself physically and was not ready this year.
  20. Here's my read on Rutherford: He gets his reputation from GM'ing two Stanley Cup winning teams. But why did the Pens win those Cups? Because they had the best player of the last 20 years, Sid Crosby, a second center in Geno Malkin who was an Art Ross and Conn Smyth winner... and a topnotch goalie in Marc Andre Fleury... all drafted by Craig Patrick when he was GM. And in 2016 he lucked out with a rookie goalie in Matt Murray who totally played over his head... the best of his career. In those years Rutherford just added small pieces to a strong core... he didn't make any important moves. He hasn't drafted any particularly great players. Arguably Rutherford found himself with a really strong team and was able to tinker a bit and come off with wins.
