  1. The Canucks need to sign a good UFA defenseman. Of the choices, perhaps Luke Schenn is the best... he has the size at 6' 2" 230, and he is still young. He is a Western Canadian boy... and might enjoy playing for the Canucks. But the team needs to make sure they don't overpay him... he is not elite level.
  2. Hey

Post wasn't about the game... was about the way the kid can change a game without even putting points on the board.

This kid has got the physical impact in a game which the Canuck's have not had since Bertuzzi or Linden or Smyl.

I can see some of that in the post, but you were specifically referencing something in tonights game. You weren't really citing anything else as an example except for what happened in tonights game.

It seemed like more of a comment than a starting point for a discussion from my point of view. Also, a lot of the responses were spammy.

I've raised this point before... in reference to a number of games in the past where Virtanen's physical play changed the game.

Anyway it's done, but hopefully you'll consider next time.

  3. Great game by Burr... almost had the goal, but the puck was skidding and rolling when he tried the empty net. But with two assists, multiple blocked shots and being the best forward on the PK, he showed once again he can find a way to help out. I thought the line with Dorsett and Horvat was a good one... not just that they were the best offensive line, they also were the best defensively... the last part of the 3rd period, every time the line came out they shut down the Nashville offense completely.
  4. Burr a big part of this win. Not just an ordinary empty netter, he made that goal by burning Burns. And he baited Burns earlier by making him take a stupid penalty and blow their chances of a comeback. He finds ways to contribute.
  5. People keep talking about the 4.5 million as if he is being paid that amount for this year. He isn't.... as has been said MANY MANY MANY times, he is being paid for the years when he scored 35 goals and was paid a pittance. I think Burrows cannot be traded at this point, even if the Canucks eat part of his salary. Unless he goes on a late season goalscoring and point spree I think he willed waived to Utica next year and assuming no one picks him up, he will become a player/coach. Which would be a good place for him... he can contribute a lot there.
  6. Moderator: Suggest you ask Chili to create a Konecny thread in "AHL, International, and Junior Hockey", and quit cluttering up this thread... which is about Brock Boeser.
  7. Obviously you are still hurting that we drafted Boeser. Re. Boeser being a 'floater', don't see that... in fact I see him making a lot of very useful passes... which aren't capitalized on by his linemates due them either being slightly off or the linemate screwing up... less accurate passing is typical of a freshman. He also is quite physical, I see him going into the corners, aggressively forechecking, not the behaviour of a floater. And last year, when Smaultz wasn't his wingman, he was still scoring at a great clip... so it isn't just the players around him. You are obviously very convinced Konecny is the second coming, and maybe he is a good player... small size and all, but just like Boeser, the real assessment will have to wait till the respective players make their NHL debut.
  8. Konecny is at 1.86 pts per game, but .49 goals per game. Boeser is at 1.15 pts per game, but .69 goals per game. So Boeser is a little better in GPG, but worse in PPG. But there is another factor: Boeser is a freshman, he's in his first year in the NCAA. Konecny is in his third year in the OHL. So the quality of the opposition for Boeser is higher. Third factor: NCAA is typically quite a bit lower scoring than the OHL. All of this adds up to.... Speculation. Both players are elite level for Junior leagues.
  9. Konecny is having a great season, but he is a little smaller than than Boeser at 5'10" and 176... but on the positive side, Konecny is a cousin of Bo's. Edit... just realized I misspelled BOTH guys names....
  10. All those who posted in this thread advocating for the Sedins to be traded need to have their names carefully noted and added to Hall of Fame for Stupid Posts.
  11. It's clear you know nothing about hockey. The chances of the Canucks getting a value for the Sedins is very low... No team gives up #1's lightly. And to add to that, the teams who would want to trade picks for the Sedins are going to finish high in the standings, which means their picks are going to be a crapshoot. Go look at the percentage of players who are drafted in the first round, especially late, and who come even close to the Sedins in actual career performance. Next to ZERO. Any GM who traded the Sedins for anything but a guaranteed #1 pick would be considered an idiot... and there are no guarantees for #1 spot anymore. Amazing how many bozos come on this board spouting nonsense.
  12. All these morons who keep screaming for us to dump the entire complement of Vets on this team really have their heads buried up their behinds. Because even if we finish dead last, what are our chances of getting Mathews? Hey Morons? A little better than 25%... That's right morons, we blow up our entire team just so we finish last, and bet it all on a roll of the dice which isn't even a good bet. What a bunch of door knobs.
  13. Actually Burrows had an assist was +1 and his line was either the best Canucks line or 2nd best. They were all over the ice and had multiple chances. He could easily have had another assist as he set up Bartkowski for a perfect one timer middle of the ice, right between the circles 20 ft out... too bad Bartkowski can't hit the broadside of a barn door. And besides, as others have pointed out, if you want to bitch about Burrows, there is a well established thread for that.
  14. I've been wrong before but I doubt Burrows will either be traded or waived. -He is still contributing on the scoresheet and in his overall play. The Vey, Etem and Burrows line has been a threat for the last few games and will be on the scoresheet again. -His salary is too high for his value for another team to be interested and the Canucks wouldn't be willing to take on 1/2 value. Next year is another question... I think the team may encourage him to take an early retirement, and in return hire him as a coach/player in Utica or somewhere else in the organization.
  15. How many times is it necessary to explain: Burrows is being paid now for the years he was underpaid... the Stanley Cup final years when he was grossly underpaid and the team was struggling to stay under the CAP.... Burrows didn't make a fuss about being underpaid because he was assured he would be compensated on the next contract.
  16. Nice to see Alex back. You can tell he's been talking to Etem during the practice scates... they've got something going where one of them goes to the front of the net and the other gets a shot on. And Vey is chipping in too... Good cycle game with all three.
  17. By the way, everyone should understand the following. Burrows didn't push for a salary boost during the years when he was scoring BIG, because he: 1) Understood the team's CAP was tight at that point what with all the talent there 2) Was promised he'd be compensated in his next contract for the deferred compensation he didn't receive earlier. Look at Burrows overall stats, goals, points, big plays, etc... then look at his CAREER salary with the Canucks compared to production. You will see he has been UNDERPAID for the production he has put on the stat sheet, not to mention the intangibles he has given the team. And please don't give me the cr*p about how anyone who plays with the Sedins gets a free ride. If that's the case how come Vrbata didn't slot in with the Sedins and become a 50 goal scorer? Or everyone else who has been put with them. Look at this year... Hansen is having a good season... but NOWHERE near as good as Burrows did when he was the same age.
  18. Haters gotta hate... fact is, they are losers. Burrows still has time to improve his season, he is still sixth in scoring on the team even though his play has obviously not been good. And he finds ways to contribute, as seen by the shootout goal, or his PK play. Let's see what the team does... the decision is Benning and Linden's.
  19. Burr knew it wasn't a big gamble with 2 goal lead, so he took it.
  20. Burr has never pretended to be anything than what he is:
  21. Because he is not 6'4" 215 lbs. Or maybe you think a guy who is 188 lbs in his dreams should be an enforcer and go looking for fights? All agitators get zero respect... UNLESS THEY ARE PHYSICALLY FRIGHTENING as well as being agitators. Lucic has career stats worse than Burr, (same points, but less goals) but he gets 'respect' because he is 6'4" 235 lbs. But there is no difference... both run their mouths, both play chippy, stretch the boundaries of what's legal and get in other players faces. But in Lucic's case, if someone started mouthing off in the media about him, he'd be in imminent danger of being decapitated or turned into a paralytic. That's the only reason you don't see whiners going on about him. Meanwhile a lot of fans rave about him... why? Because he does exactly the same things as Burrows, but can do them with impunity because of his size... case of Bully minded fans liking a bully. Lucic has done much worse things than Burrows, but he gets a free pass because large size bullies appeal to a certain segment of the fan base. Burrows does the same job, but with a lot more of a handicap. Lucic's ex team-mate Marchand gets exactly the same respect as Burrows because he is also is pint sized. Bottom line, fans in Vancouver should look at what Burrows has done for the team instead of harping on the chickensh*t details... by the way, did anyone's finger have to be amputated because of Burrows... Hmmm>??????? How about what Lucic has done>????? How many times has he put players OUT of the game with his dirty play>?????? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIcg7E9kqhM
  22. This Tootoo cr*p is a diversion from the real point of this thread... instigated by the Burrows haters who look for any excuse to stick a knife in. Burrows is a valuable player on the Canucks... the majority of the fans love him, all his team mates do too. The guys on the other teams... of course they don't. He gets no respect, despite the fact he has scored 35 goals in a league, four times scored more than 25, and is defensively superb. Not to mention he bailed the Canucks out personally in the 2010 Stanley Cup run by putting a knife in the Black Hawks heart... this guy deserves a career pass from Canucks fans for that AT THE VERY LEAST. So those haters... GIVE IT A FREAKIN' BREAK.
  23. I think Burr will be done in two years... hopefully they give him space to make a graceful exit. So 800 games is a possibility, much more than that, I am not so sure.
  24. Nice to see Burr hit this milestone. Hoping he gets to finish his career in Vancouver.
