I'd say it's OJs spot to lose if he plays well. With that said, we could just be dressing 7 dmen. Fantenberg was beating out Benn most of the season and if OJ has leapfrogged him as well, then I don't think we are looking back at this point. When they started putting OJ with Stecher, it looked promising. Rafferty and Juolevi play different sides, so I think they would both be "first callups" (assuming OJ hasn't beaten out Fantenberg already) on either position. If an RD goes down, they wouldn't have OJ in and vice versa.

[Signing] Ducks re-sign Sonny Milano

Rathbone was taken with our own 4th. The one we acquired, we traded to Chicago to gain a 5th and 6th round picks which turned into Gunnarsson and Palmu. None worked out, but it demonstrates that we did make the trades in which that poster believed that Benning wasn't making. Ignoring facts for their argument. -
Luckily for them. If he didn't then, it would be beneficial for the next in line to get gelling before the real games begin. If a player was out injured in this game, then they start their next game with their next in line, thus also replicating game conditions. Unless they planned on going with 5 D for the rest of the play-ins. Like I've been saying, there is no disadvantage to have dressed the extra bodies in this rare occasion that it is allowed.

Leave it for a reporter to not fact check or ensure accurate information before passing it onto the public. Dhaliwal seemed so promising when he first started and has been dragged through the mud like the rest unfortunately.

But that's what I'm saying, they could be dressed and just sit on the bench while the rest of the guys get going. If a player goes down in this game, they could easily have the next guy in line jump in and prepare themselves still for Vancouver. They could give some young player a taste of the NHL level action even from the bench. There is literally no disadvantage to dressing them. The message instead is sent that the depth sucks and they would rather go shorthanded than give any of them a potential look.
-
And yet they will play both goalies like an exhibition game. I guess those guys will feel it's more fair sitting in the press box (or whatever quarantined zone) instead. I think those players would actually feel better knowing their the next one's up and have faith from the coaching staff that they may be utilized at some point during the playoff drive/run.
-
So they couldn't dress an extra body (or two) to sit on the bench? What if they suffer an injury, wouldn't it be favourable to get a guy in right away to gel in game time in their only exhibition game? What if they suffer an injury during the play-in, wouldn't it be good to give some depth who has been sitting idle for months a bit of game action since they're set on their lines anyway? There's no hindrence to them to dress the extra guys given this rare instance in doing so.

[Signing] Ducks re-sign Sonny Milano

Hansen for Goldobin (as you've mentioned) Burrows for Dahlen Vanek for Motte With that said, Devin Shore is a pretty proven bottom 6 player who's only 26. Milano has pretty much identical numbers to Goldobin at the same age. I'd argue that Milano is almost more of a "fringe" NHLer than Shore is (considering Shore has played more than double the NHL games than Milano and only 2 years older). Anahiem is at the stage where they can take the risk of a project prospect and hope to turn them into something while giving up a useful player to a team that is looking for one. Benning made those moves as shown above when we were at that same stage. -
Just for fun, Philadelphia Flyers Play-in Roster: Zucker - Crosby - Zibanejad Hintz - Miller - Tatar Nieto - Ryan - Pitlick Kuhnhackl - Toninato - Grabner Vatanen - Martinez Gostisbehere - Hagg Van Riemsdyk - Hunt Mrazek Raanta Black Aces: Boyd, Salomaki, Benn, Lettieri, Bellows

He is trending more in the direction of can then can't. Pacing 42 points over a full season with 3rd line minutes with an uptick in PP time. I agree with trying to assess if he has peaked and making that move before he dips back down. If he signs a one year deal, he's playing to prove himself once again and he may have even more value in the next offseason while still being an RFA. If Jake hadn't been showing signs of improving year after year thus far, then I'd be more concerned about his "buy in". I'd prefer to have those guys knock down the door first. Until then, go with what you know and especially with assumption that we will be without Toffoli as well. Like I've said before, I have no problem moving him. It's all about timing and the right price. Even if he isn't in the long term plans, I don't see us moving on from him this coming offseason. Will have to circle back to this in the next offseason IMO.
-
If Jake can elevate his game on that discount, then you're laughing. If his asking price becomes too high after that, then you sell him while his value is high. Jake provides good value to cap at the moment and I suspect his next contract wouldn't be out of line for a 20 goal scoring 3rd liner with an opportunity to step into a bigger role (assuming Toffoli isn't back). I am comfortable with the idea of moving him as perhaps he's not part of the main core, but it's about selling him at the right time and for the right return. We may already have to play an LD on the right side as it is. Adding to it creates more problems than it solves. Having Jake be a relatively cheap option potentially in the top 6 is a more beneficial solution to our cap and team.

You have to trade a good piece to get a good one back. Maximizing the value on wing to bolster a position of need is not a bad gamble to take. Not saying I'd do it, just saying it's something I'd consider and wouldn't write off completely.
-
But would that be the peak of his value in which to capitalize? Wing is a position of strength right now and if we can peak value trade him to bolster a position of need, then that is also favourable to us. It's certainly something I'd consider if the right deal can be made.
-
Yes and I feel like his value/performance is climbing. Need to gauge when that peak would be to pull that trigger. Maybe a solid playoff performance is the time, but then again, that is also something that we would have to value if we are serious about winning in the playoffs in the future.
