[SIGNING] Goldobin signs with CSKA Moskow
theo5789 replied to Beefcake's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Schaller was the better PKer than Goldy. We needed that more than another one dimensional offensive player. We started out gangbusters in scoring to start the season to further prove we didn't need him at the time and Schaller even started the season hot too. Eventually Schaller fizzled, but we also eventually moved him in part of a deal to get Toffoli who would also play a big part in replacing Goldy anyway. -
[SIGNING] Goldobin signs with CSKA Moskow

What label is that? He needed to improve in certain areas to make it at the next level and while he did marginally, he was quickly surpassed. He didn't break this "label" on his own and earn a spot. Was rooting for him, but the writing was on the wall as the spots he could fill started filling up before he could develop himself into those roles. -
I read a post on here that suggested that because Jack didn't play in college in his first eligible year (stayed home for his brother) that his timeline to UFA is a year earlier (after next season) despite him not playing the typical years of college. With that said, we continually hear from our college prospects, especially drafted in the later rounds, that they are very appreciative of the Canucks putting their faith in them and are generally committed to Vancouver because they've been shown respect by our club with whatever career path they choose. We draft for character and Jack seems no different than the others that we have drafted as demonstrated with his family values. I'm not all too concerned with him playing another year taking him to potential UFA.

Whichever option gets us into the playoffs is fine by me. Doesn't matter who the opposition is. It'll never be an easy road to the Cup.

Notable Canuck Trades That Almost Happened (Discussion)
theo5789 replied to KKnight's topic in Canucks Talk
LA also gave up a large sum of cash and took on a couple of players (not sure if for salary reasons) which may have been integral in the trade as well. It's interesting because we acquired Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas and one of those first round picks in Martin Rucinsky later on. Without Stojanov, we don't have the WCE era (of course this meant acquiring Bertuzzi as well when Linden got traded due to the Messier signing). Sure is nice to dream of Gretzky here, but it would be interesting to see what the butterfly effect that would've caused and if it would've led to a Cup indeed which makes all the now known future moot to get the elusive Cup for this franchise. -

He's not on the trade history because we (unfortunately) signed him as a UFA rather than trading for him. As for the Brackett issue, seems pessimistic to think we will replace him (if at all) with the wrong piece. We could just as simply find a suitable replacement and all will be well (or we retain him with the same result). Comparing this to the Messier situation is like believing we will replace Brackett with a watermelon (with the watermelon having a more positive net effect than Messier). -
And this is why people get so upset over unrealistic expectations.

To boot, Avto changed their rink this season to be closer to NHL sized and his defensive game got better, whether due to the rink change or simply development.

Did someone really ask his agent if he thinks OJ is injury prone? I washed my hands with soap for 20 seconds before I facepalmed.
-
Whoever asked that question is a fool. This is why people hate the media here.

Don't know, but if Loui stayed, extend the man for 8 more years!

But Marky and Petey fled, trade them NOW!

Will be interesting if he's willing to take a Utica spot or if he wins an NHL spot out of camp. We don't have a lot of space on wing at the moment.

This was an early prediction. So @skategal was always an underdog. Cinderella story. -
This from the article is what I took most out of it. For those who are wondering why Rafferty hasn't gotten the call yet need to see this.

[Signing] Kings sign Tyler Madden
theo5789 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Or another way to look at it is that maybe he wanted to turn pro ASAP and the Canucks maybe felt he should go back another year to develop. Although it sounded like the Canucks weren't shopping Madden and rather that's who LA targetted, so that would suggest that there wasn't anything forcing our hand for a trade, but we just felt he was an expendable piece to get a top 6 forward (hopefully re-signed which was probably the intention in making this move). -

Good game @debluvscanucks -
Good thing Edler's still got a few years before needing to be "replaced". In the meantime if we need to buy more time, Brisebois could get a look as well. I'm glad we are ensuring OJ is ready for his debut (with the lofty expectations he will have) rather than throwing him to the wolves when he isn't. If he cannot overcome his injuries, then we move forward. We have Rathbone who looks very promising. Nice to have depth.

If he sees how the US is handling this pandemic, perhaps he's glad to be out of that country. As mentioned already, even if he wants to go back to LA, does LA want him back? Is Toffoli willing to take a pay cut to play there as they're likely not wanting to pay top dollar for tank years where all he would do is make their team better (and thus go against the tank nation). If they want experience for their future young players, they already have Kopitar, Doughty, Brown, Carter and Quick still there with the first two likely being career guys (Quick as well, but I suspect he isn't going to last much longer). His wife was here and didn't come off as someone who hated being here and seemed to actually be welcomed and taking part in the activities here rather than be some depressed isolated individual that wants nothing but to go back home. I was most worried about this, but seeing her response makes me feel very comfortable that we could re-sign him as long as it makes sense to us and we can fit him into our cap. Oh and as for Podkolzin, it's too bad that the season had to be cut short and this playoff experience would've been good for his development and he was just starting to find his groove. Hopefully he picks up where he left off next season and is able to leap back to the development track that he was on.
