  1. Bypass the AHL? Must have character issues....or wait is that only true for Russians? With that said, I don't know much about him, but something tells me he's like a Baertschi/Spooner type player. One of those guys that need to produce or they don't provide much else. Teams are willing to risk that he's got more because he would be on a cheap contract, so minimal risk with potential of decent reward.
  2. Assuming he's a RD, then he would only affect Rafferty, Chatfield and maybe Tryamkin. If he's a quality dman, you screw that farm cycle and improve your team. If those guys below are not happy, then we trade from a position of strength.
  3. That wasn't what I was responding to, so no not the point I was trying to make. I responded to a post that believes he's fulfilled his contract after the playoffs ended. The contract is not over until April 30 or if it's terminated early. That's my point to who I responded to.
  4. I'm not arguing for hanging on to him and keeping as a lock. All I'm saying is he has some trade value. If he's bought out, he's one of the first players that will find a new team. In the meantime, he isn't completely useless as suggested IMO so it's less risk to hang onto him and see if we can find a trade partner. Right now, Sven has little to no value for us and probably negative value in a trade. He is dead cap that we should be ridding ourselves of. Our cap is at its tightest for next season, so it's the season that we need to focus on clearing up room while not hurting the team. Just the removal of Eriksson will help us long term cap-wise as well in we are also thinking longer term.
  5. They must've terminated the contract as I mentioned. It's not impossible this could happen again, but at this point, Benning has said they will discuss when his contract ends which is April 30 until further notice. The point was that the contract simply isn't fulfilled as soon as you are eliminated from the playoffs.
  6. That's not how it works though. It's not like UFAs in the NHL become UFAs as soon as their teams are eliminated from the playoffs. He remains Avto property until April 30 or if they terminate his contract. I'm sure there's no huge rush to get into any of this at this moment.
  7. Reason why I don't buy out Roussel is because I think he has trade value, even if it's a low pick. Baertschi has no value at this point and may be at negative value. Teams may be more interested with one year left, but we may still have to retain to get a minimal return and this defeats the purpose. Roussel was just starting to gel with Gaudette before the season was cut short.
  8. Already brought up the attitude issue. He's owned up saying he wasn't mentally prepared when he first got here. He understands that he could've learned more had he stayed here. He has improved in the KHL (players can develop in other leagues believe it or not). His supposed previous attitude won't be a factor this time around especially if he's willing to make the jump back to the NHL. Higher salary players like Eriksson have been demoted for players more deserving. Players like Baertschi and Gagner have been demoted for players that are more deserving. Not a concern. I don't see where this "perceived" unwillingness to play a lesser role comes from.
  9. Once again JD Burke keeps talking out of his ass. I believe he also said Costmar wasn't a great skater (I'd like to see Burke on skates with how judgemental he is to others of their skating ability), while there were clips of him blowing past players. I believe he also remains adamant that the Miller trade was a bad one. As for the Kings part, I guess we can look at the trade as 2nd and Madden for Toffoli and Michaelis. Michaelis must've been sold on us getting closer to contention and are hopeful that he can fill a depth role for us getting there.
  10. Anyone that played in the 90s pretty much from what I gather in this thread so far.
  11. I believe Tryamkin almost exclusively plays RD (even though he's a left shot), so it'll be interesting which side he ends up on. He could be partnered with Hughes and be that steady defensive dman while Hughes does his thing. Tryamkin's reach and stick (and skating ability) could probably cover both sides on the rink anyway. Tryamkin could have occasional dashes when the opposition is trying to focus on shutting down a Hughes breakout. He could be paired with Edler and be more on the offensive and bull his way to the net. Edler also tends to play tougher and bigger with some physical support (like when he was paired with Gudbranson). He could be paired with a Rathbone/Juolevi and be that physical presence to protect the young guys too. Many options.
  12. We really only need the one buyout. You tend to use buyouts on untradeable pieces (or players that require sweeteners to move). I am willing to bet a team would take on Myers if he were available. Baertschi not so much and thus the buyout makes more sense for him if a 2nd buyout were available. We need the cap space the most for next season (although I think we wouldn't be in that much trouble anyway, but certainly the tightest against the cap next season), so moving on from Baertschi to give us that flexibility is probably is good for us and for him to get a chance to sign a cheap deal with another team to try and resurrect his career. We will have expiring players after and the cap will go up when all of this all blows over. Moving out term on players of value on the team doesn't make sense.
  13. I believe if he outright retires, then he's off the books (see Luongo). If he LTIRetires, then we have to deal with the issues that @mll mentioned. I also believe if he outright retires, then he's giving up the rest of the money, so it's more financially feasible for Ferland to go on LTIR. Not sure if his contract is a insured one or not.
  14. Why are people wanting to buyout Myers? Who are you replacing him with? Pietrangelo isn't going to hit UFA (especially if St Louis can clear out cap space with compliance buyouts). Barrie will be looking at who pays him the most and he will be more of a liability on defense than Myers (Barrie is better offensively, but not needed at his price tag IMO). Then there's a drop off of players basically around Myers' level anyway. If we are looking to trade, then it's not going to be cheap. Myers fill a top 4 RD spot that we have been desperately needing for years. If we clear out cap and re-sign Tanev and add Tryamkin, that's a formidable RD group. With maybe Stecher and/or Rafferty as depth. Loui is the no brainier option. Baertschi IMO is the other no brainier option. He's 2+ million of dead cap right now. No one wants him at his price tag and we don't want to give up assets to move him. Give him an opportunity to sign a cheap deal with another team to try and re-establish himself rather than bury his career (he's been relatively good to us even though he's been demoted, so he's deserving of the chance). Sutter, Beagle (PK centers, with the hopeful development of Michaelis to replace Sutter in a year) and Roussel still provide value to the team (Roussel is tradable value if needed). Ferland may not be able to be bought out of he's injured and if he is then he goes on LTIR, but if he can get back on track, he could still hold value.
  15. But that is Gudbranson's decision making and execution. Green can only do so much for him. Tryamkin has the ability to push up the puck with his skating, so that alone allows him more options.
  16. Tryamkin is a much better skater than Gudbranson.
  17. I remembering some tweet about it (I thought from Igor Eronko), but I can't seem to find it. Although the best I could find was the following (Eronko is quoted in the article, but I don't pay for the Athletic to see what's in that article): Tryamkin himself recognizes that he could have further developed his skillset had he stayed with the Canucks. “In Vancouver, they tried to develop him as much as they could. The Canucks tried to fix his skating first of all, to try to get him to another level,” KHL insider Igor Eronko told The Athletic. “They tried to teach him how to play with the puck and offensively he liked that, but he didn’t recognize at the time that he would learn more and more and more if he had stayed.”
  18. No need to worry about the more mature attitude. I read a while back that he realizes that he could've learned more staying in the NHL and that he wasn't mentally ready at that time when he was first here. I think it's safe to say he has indeed matured. I think he has also taken the steps needed to make himself an effective defender and has improved his game in the KHL. How it translates to the NHL is to be determined, but I think his head is in the right place now.
  19. We will keep it going. We are finding good prospects in the later rounds. We just signed Lockwood who was a 3rd rounder, we are hoping Tryamkin returns who's a 3rd rounder, the hyped up Madden was a 3rd rounder. We have found players like Gaudette in the 5th round. We have a solid prospect in Rathbone found in the 4th round (who some believe has surpassed our top 5 pick in Juolevi). We got Focht in the 4th round who probably made it more comfortable to move someone like Madden. And we just signed one of the better college UFA in Michaelis (amongst others in the past). We can afford to use up some top picks with the prospect pool that we have, but it's important to acquire the right pieces and I believe we have in a relatively cheap top line forward and another top 6 forward currently also playing on our top offensive line. If we re-sign him, it makes it that much better.
