  1. It's not just the NHL. It's the media and fanbases. Points are the easiest/simplest sign of a successful player. Highlights will almost never show a smart defensive play, they only show goals, an occasional big save and controversial hits. The casual fanbase only sees this and that is all of value. The players that contribute on the less heralded stats do not often get the credit they deserve. Aside from points, people are going to be expecting Tryamkin to be dishing out hits night in and night out. I don't see many people crediting him with his solid defensive play aside from the physical aspect of it.
  2. But he was supposedly only a 6-7 dman then and there's no way he could've developed further in the KHL. So that's all we should expect of him.
  3. "Take off your rose coloured glasses", "keep drinking the Kool aid", etc. It does go both ways. Like most things, you take the most negative posts and the most positive posts and generally what's really happening is somewhere in the middle.
  4. Kind of my point. It's a night for celebration and he's had his moments of glory in a Canuck uniform. Surely overlooking whatever negatives you feel about him (much like for Kesler) can be done for a night to celebrate said moments (unless we need to hear a sob story about how he fears the reaction of the crowd could ruin his night to feel sympathy towards him). He clearly cherished his time as a Canuck is coming back for this event .
  5. Cooke certainly wasn't a clean player, but he had his moments like those above that were clutch moments. If people can forgive Kesler for a night, surely they can do so for Cooke as well.
  6. You remember all that but don't remember this? This goal clinched our playoff berth for the first time since the dreaded Messier era. I remember shouting "Druuuuuukennnnnnn!!!!" when he buried that. This goal was the dragon slayer of that time.
  7. We actually have dropped in draft position every year we've been at the bottom. We have been screwed time and again with "lotto" picks. Good on Benning and crew nabbing very good prospects (and for teams passing on them). Mission accomplished for them. They grabbed the necessary players to build a new young core, time to build on this foundation rather than continuing to dig ourselves further into the ground.
  8. All coaches have to start somewhere. You try them out and hope for the best. Times change and methodology changes over time, so it's not always indicative that coaches that had a good record in the past are good now. It seems in today's game that if the coaches respect the players and can earn the respect back from the players, then you have a good one. All I know is one's playing career does not dictate if someone will be a good coach.
  9. That quote that you posted is by Andrew Walker. Still nothing from Benning and Aquilini. The first link suggests Aquilini wants a quicker rebuild rather than a long one due to his father. Still doesn't suggest that the rebuild is done now. No one in the Canucks organization has stated in words that the rebuild is done. We have made trades to help accelerate the rebuild, but both Benning and Aquilini have said that we need to be patient. We still have an influx of youth coming in and haven't sold the farm. Benning did state in words that he expects at least 7 young players to join the team in the next couple of years and that would suggest the rebuild continues while trying to start to be competitive.
  10. Gretzky was considered the GOAT. He was terrible as a coach. Barry Trotz (who IMO is the best coach in the game right now) never played a single NHL game. Their hockey playing careers do not define them as coaches.
  11. You have been adamant that we are done the rebuild. Benning has in the system and has stated that he hopes to have at least 7 young players make the team over the next couple of years. That's a third of the roster getting a makeover with youth. How is that indicative of a finished rebuild? Most teams start with two great young players and have them surrounded with quality role/depth players. In those cases, many teams have won top 2 or 3 picks. We have arguably gotten those players in Petey and Quinn despite not winning the top picks. Where we lack in prospects, we can fill through trade. Benning has added two top 6 (arguably top line) forwards with picks that we are hoping those picks will become anyway. We could just as easily draft a dud in the top 5 (as many teams have done) and suddenly we take a step back in our progression. We still have a wealth of riches in our prospect pool and Benning seemingly has a plan in place on how to develop them to what we are hoping they would be for our future.
  12. It is almost indicative of what Benning had said. The biggest hurdle is getting back to the playoffs. You don't want to be stuck forever in that funk. The tank nation crowd are the ones stuck in that funk and can't get over the hump. The silver lining is despite this rough patch, we are still in a playoff spot. We hit a 3 game win streak and suddenly we are back to fighting for the top spot in the Pacific. If we get hot going into the playoffs, then watch out.
  13. It's called progression and development of the new young core. If you want to tank for a long time, go see the Oilers. Sabres and NJD aren't far off. We will see how Ottawa progresses. Picking in the middle of round one can still unearth some gems that could be key pieces to the team if you make the right picks and develop them properly.
  14. Vasilevsky 20:11 Tryamkin 19:51 Bodrov 19:48 Gurkin 19:27 Mamkin 18:50 Berezin 17:48 Batyrshin 16:45 Playoffs Tryamkin 22:57 Gurkin 22:48 Berezin 22:09 Vasilevsky 22:01 Mamkin 20:42 Batyrshin 18:59 They manage their minutes for sure, but Tryamkin is consistently averaging in the top 2 in minutes. He's the go to PK defender (and likely the most reliable defensive guy on the team). He's had his minutes go up down the stretch and carrying over into the playoffs when it matters the most.
  15. Season isn't over yet and we are still fighting for a playoff spot. This is exactly where I had projected them in the offseason. They've had good stretches and some poor ones, but I didn't expect them to be more than a bubble wild card team with the hopeful chance that they get over the hump. If they get swept in the 1st round, then so be it, it's progress. If they don't, then yes JB will have more to assess, but I think he wants to see the guys in the playoffs. The playoff drive is a good indicator as well though.
  16. Playoffs are tough. The young core is getting experience of the grind and to learn what they need to do to get to the next level. Hopefully we make the playoffs and if we get swept, then we do. The point is we want to make a push so Benning can further assess the team on who to keep and what not. This was said by Benning since early in the season. It's progression and we have been trending up every year. Better to get the tough stretch of games out of the way now and should we make the playoffs, hopefully we are coming in hot.
  17. This is how I know you haven't been following Tryamkin at all this year. Nice that you have an uninformed opinion though. Lots of merit.
  18. That's an expensive souvenir then. They probably lose like 5 pucks a game. 8 game night will cost them $4000 bucks. I guess they could always bump up ticket prices.
  19. Whew, I was afraid we would be losing some quality talent due to the cap.
  20. Hey fellow GMs, I'm glad to sign my contract as the new GM of the Flyers. It'll take me a few days to get things in order, but feel free to throw me any proposals as I look into the direction I would like to take this team in. Just remember that if you swindle me in a deal, you will have to face this in your nightmares
  21. Kreider is a Ranger lifer. He probably took a "discount" and wanted a NMC for the duration of his contract (although the no trade aspect of it becomes a modified NTC in the last 3 years). Kreider probably gets more on the open market, so I guess it depends if Toffoli wants to test the market and he could probably get 7 or more. Toffoli will have to decide if Vancouver is home or give another destination a shot. Whatever the case, I doubt Kreider's deal is a benchmark. We may try to use an internal structure to see if he wants to build a winner with a manageable cap hit and if he agrees, then I could see him around 6-6.5.
  22. Yeah but they were suppose to pay us a 1st to take on a cap dump
  23. They hand out those fake sticks, so I imagine handing out regular pucks won't be an issue. I'm curious if they'll expect you to throw the puck back on the ice (or hand to an usher) during game play like how you have to throw the ball back in soccer. If you take it home, they can track you!
