  1. Good thing Green called that time out and settled the team down.
  2. I felt like we were the more dangerous team last night. And aside from a shaky start from Demko (first start knowing Marky is down in the franchised Montreal building), we buckled down pretty well IMO despite the shot count. Being able to come back and win a game shows resiliency and in the playoffs or even the playoff drive, you will be down games, but it's important to know that you're able to come back from deficits and not give up. Could there be some work defensively? Sure, but as long as we continue to get results, it's a positive movement.
  3. Good thing that Benning brought in reinforcements to give the team some belief they can make this push into the playoffs. Benning could've stayed pat and hope for the best, but we could've been losing confidence. Toffoli has been a nice shot in the arm and has been vital since he's joined us.
  4. They're making the playoffs regardless of wins now. It actually bodes well for Tryamkin as they've seem to lean on him of late and for the team to be doing well despite losing Kovar is a good sign for Tryamkin's ability.
  5. Maybe we give him some consulting job on the side after he retires to "pay" back the rest of the contract. Or mutually terminate if he wants to see if a team will give him a chance to keep playing. He could be useful to a team like Detroit on a cheap contract. I just prefer to not have to give up any assets to move him. Even if it's more palatable to a cap floor team, they will know our situation and force us to make a move as other teams will want to unload their cap waste and some GMs are willing to give the moon to do so.
  6. However it happens, having his entire cap come off the books will be hockey Gaud's gift.
  7. Pretty sure his cap hit stays the same. His salary is less after the bonus being paid out. And the dream is that he retires after that.
  8. Not many cap floor teams left and we would still have to pay a pretty penny to unload him to them.
  9. We keep hearing this, yet we keep winning games still. Despite them outshooting us tonight, I felt like we had more dangerous chances in terms of actual plays, many of which we didn't get a shot on goal or missed the puck.
  10. Roussel will be the most tradable piece though. If we can unload his entire cap hit, I think that will be more valuable to us. The fact that he doesn't PK for us anymore limits his value to us. If we can move all three of those players, then definitely keep Roussel, but I think it'll be a challenge. Baertschi will be bought out, so we'd only save a bit more of cap from him. LE will always be a dream if he could retire, but it also doesn't sit well with me if we have to pay a hefty price to unload him. If Sutter stays healthy, hopefully we can move him. I think Sutter has value to our team, but I think the cap space outweighs his value.
  11. 4 points in 2 games prior to tonight on Petey's line would suggest he was doing just fine. They were dangerous tonight too, just didn't bury their chances. You can see why Toffoli stands out as a top 6 forward as he has swift hands, good vision and knows how to bury a puck.
  12. Remember when people thought our playoff hopes were doomed as soon as they heard that Marky was out? Looks like we have another solid goalie in the system. If Demko goes on a run here, Marky better sign to reasonable terms. If it plays out this way, Domingue might actually be a decent backup for 2-3 years until DiPietro is ready for a backup spot. It would certainly help with our cap situation. Although I imagine we would still want to sign Marky and make a trade rather than have him walk. Also Tyler Madden who?
  13. That bust potential is still there for Madden. The assumption is that he will fill out, but that remains to be seen. No way someone values him as "first round" until he does. LA certainly views him highly, but perhaps they didn't know what the market would be like at the TDL and they took the best offer rather than waiting. It's hindsight now to know the crazy valuations teams were making. Perhaps you're not the only one that might think Madden is "first round" material (I suspect majority are the people that have been opposed to many of the moves that Benning makes), but certainly there's a lot of people that would rather have a 1st round pick instead if they had the choice.
  14. There some serious negative thinking. Marky has stolen games for sure, but he has also looked human for stretches. We have been blowing teams out of the water at times and Demko has looked decent this season as well aside from a couple of stinkers, but Marky had them too. All "starters" make big saves for their teams and steal games. It's nothing new that decent goaltending helps teams become successful. I don't think Demko is that significant of a drop off to go off the deep end. When we made the trade, we were more than a bubble team. We were and continue to be a team fighting for tops in the division. The team has worked hard and Benning had said they want to reward the team by giving them the best chance at making the playoffs especially after the Boeser news. Toffoli sees this team is on the rise and he's playing with our best in Petey. I doubt that if we just miss the playoffs that it's the deciding factor if he will be back or not. He and his wife seem to be enjoying their time here and the team has been welcoming and he has a close friend here. All this fear of losing him for nothing and looking for any excuse that he may walk is just unnecessary worry at this point. This fear is the same as when we made the Miller trade and everyone was concerned about us losing a lotto pick next year assuming we will miss the playoffs this year and next (guess what? Looks like that fear may be mitigated already should we make the playoffs this year). There's so much else that could happen like Demko stepping up, we make the playoffs and we decide to move forward with Demko and saving the cap space to re-sign someone like Toffoli.
  15. Looking at the 2018 draft, there are several players in the 15-30 range that I'd much rather have over Madden (eg Bokk, Veleno, Denisenko, etc). Madden has probably risen his stock, but I don't see 1st round value. He will need to add to his 150lb frame before he gets consideration. Most people are calling this a deep draft, so the talent being pushed into the 15-30 range could still be very decent players.
  16. This point holds true with or without Marky in net anyway. I think Demko is going to thrive knowing he's the guy now and can mentally prepare for games. He might have a couple of rough ones, but I don't think he will falter to the point where we are completely out of the playoffs.
  17. Apparently it won't matter who we start in goal in Toronto. I'm sure Ayres is ready for another go.
  18. I don't think we will change the way we play with Demko in net. He hasn't looked out of place in his stints so far, so the team would have to lose confidence in Demko to overplay to cover for him. With that said, we will also give Domingue a look and maybe he has a nice streak of games to tide us over until Marky is back.
  19. Starting goalie getting hurt by almost any team will struggle. Luckily we have a decent backup and acquired some veteran support with decent numbers behind good NHL teams. This could be a good gauge towards negotiating with Marky or deciding to move on and ride the Demko train.
  20. We have drafted Tryamkin, Brisebois, Lockwood, DiPietro, and Madden in the 3rd round. Looks to be a pretty good draft round for us. We also used the most recent 3rd in a package to acquire Miller, so lots of good vibes coming from the 3rd round.
  21. I liked what I saw from him in the WJC and said at that time that we should pick him up. I'm hoping he drops to our 3rd round pick. Big steal in the 4th round IMO if he falls that far.
  22. Explained a couple times earlier in the thread, but it is believed to be a money decision. NJ are selling and Domingue makes 1 way money (nearly 3 times more than MacIntyre).
  23. Same thing happened when the Boeser news came out after the Toffoli trade. LA likely squeezes us if they knew Boeser was out long term. Benning is doing a decent job being proactive and adapting to what is needed for the team without being hindered too much by making swift moves and getting good value.
  24. So you're suggesting that we should've moved Tanev and Stecher? How's that going to help our defense? We could add other players, but it simply negates whatever we add from trading those two. Benning doesn't seem to be too worried about the cap and seemingly has a plan in place. The rest of his plan seems to be coming together nicely, so I think he's got a handle on this. He even projected that we didn't have as much cap space as it seems when we had like 20+ million in cap space. He didn't take cap dumps for picks and continued to progress the team in a positive manner. We will worry about the offseason when it comes, right now the focus is on the playoffs. Whatever Rathbone may be, he will be depth. Tryamkin may be an if, but I think the odds of him coming over are higher than him not. It's clear that you're viewing things in an empty half glass manner though, so it doesn't surprise me that you think the Tryamkin "if" is leaning towards him not coming and thus no progress. I suspect the lack of a move actually leans more towards trusting our depth and maybe expecting some late additions.
