  1. Carolina might be a year ahead of us, but I see us catching up quickly. They were hovering around mediocrity for a bit while were bottom of the barrel, so they didn't have as far to climb than we did. We are around the same level already this year. Carolina is being led by a young group with the likes of Aho, Svechnikov and Teravainen. Even Slavin and Pesce are relatively young, but have been keep pieces. They clearly have a solid defense group mimicking Nashville's previous success. They have a decently balanced offense by are lacking a full compliment of top 6 forwards IMO and goaltending will be Achilles heel (can't have a Zamboni driver every night). I don't think we are far off though and I think we surpass them by next season depending how the offseason goes obviously. Carolina acquired some pieces that are decent, but not spectacular. Trocheck helps their top 6 situation and the defense acquisitions help them with their losses, but they are downgrades from the injured players, however were necessary moves to help out with the defense group. I like the moves that Carolina made, but I'm just saying that it's funny the viewpoint changes when it's us making the move or another team. It's seen every year.
  2. This guy must have some record of being the most traded player on TDL history. And to boot, not have an impact for any team he's gone to.
  3. Indeed they are. I like them. The point is that Carolina not long ago were "rebuilding" and they have turned things around and are making a push, much like we are. Yet everything we do is wrong by the vocal crowd while other teams are deemed good. For example, people were praising the Pageau deal. No one looked into his history, dug up his advanced stats and nitpicked every detail. They paid more to acquire him than we did for Miller and Pageau offers way less. I don't think Vatanen is the player he once was, but still decent. He's had his injury issues of late (that would give players negative value if they were Canucks apparently). Kuokkanen is an excellent prospect. It would be the same as us giving up Lind and a 2nd for Vatanen. Pretty much the same deal as we did for Toffoli and people were even dumping on that trade because it involved picks and prospects.
  4. Just wait until we add Tryamkin and maybe even Rathbone at the tail end of the season. "Free" assets due to good drafting by JB and crew. We needed a veteran backup to keep DiPietro marinating in the AHL. Domingue is pretty solid behind a decent team. We are a far cry from NJD level, so I think he will be a decent backup as long as our goal scoring continues to be strong in front of him.
  5. That was his 1st game. He was called up this year at one point at slotted into a game.
  6. He's already been called up once this year and has looked much better than his first NHL game. It's better that he sticks in Utica, but it also isn't the end of the world if we require his services again.
  7. Anything is possible, but if they can avoid it, they will. I think Demko can survive a month (knock on wood). This is his opportunity to give us a hard decision on who to be the starter next year. If Demko falters, then perhaps we don't need to worry about losing him in the expansion after all.
  8. Probably call up Kielly from the ECHL. We signed him last year and he had decent numbers in college.
  9. Canucks make moves and Benning is a fool for trading picks to make the playoffs. Carolina makes moves and they're considered brilliant for going all in.
  10. Teams don't make trades for the sake of making them. This isn't EA sports. Pittsburgh knows their window is open as long as Crosby and Malkin are there, so there are simply making every year count while they're still around.
  11. I'm fine either way if we can trade Stecher for something or if we end up letting him walk. Just can't see him with us next season. The Eriksson dream would be a true blessing from the hockey Gaud. If we extend Marky and Toffoli, we will have to see how much room is left for Tanev even if he takes a discount. I think there will still have to be more moves to make like buying out Baertschi if we can trade him outright and possibly moving out Roussel and Sutter. We have to assume Ferland stays on LTIR as well. I think if Tryamkin has a good showing that he may take over Tanev's spot next season (currently plays in a similar role in the KHL, but as a top pairing guy, so top 4 defensive dman doesn't seem out of the question IMO) and hopefully we will have signed him for a reasonable deal adding value to that position.
  12. I believe he asked for a trade in the off season, so he gets his wish. As did Bogosian. All that is left that has asked out (so far) is Risto.
  13. I think we will try to extend Tanev, although it might be a challenge to fit him in, but we will see how our offseason goes if we can dump some cap. Stecher might get up to 3 million a season, which in our cap situation is too pricey to qualify. I think we get more value now if we are going to try to trade him anyway. I think we simply let him walk if we don't trade him by the TDL.
