  1. So you think the backup plan if we didn't get Bogo is that we go after Barrie?
  2. We have the cap space now due to LTIR and there are no roster limits after the TDL as long as you fit in under the cap. I'm comfortable trading Stecher as I think he's in a replaceable spot, but I'm also comfortable keeping him as depth for a playoff run. I think if the right offer came for Stecher, then I'd take it otherwise let's ensure we have the best team moving forward and make the playoffs and try and go as far as we can. For the record, I think Benning does know what to expect from Tryamkin's side already. He probably doesn't want to say for sure he will be back and allowing him to focus on his own current playoff run. I think it's pretty telling that he hasn't extended in the KHL already if his goal was to stay there. He could sign with another KHL team, but he specifically went back to his hometown team, so if he was going to move cities anyway, why not give the NHL another go for more money and be in the top league in the world?
  3. There's only so many spots in the lineup. Unless we are trading Tanev as well, there's not spot for both Barrie and Tryamkin. We don't need Barrie and I hope we don't trade for him.
  4. It's possible that they are managing Vasilevskiy's minutes for the playoffs or maybe he has a minor knock. Either way, it's good to see Tryamkin be able to step into a bigger role and still continue to contribute to the team's success. It's also possible that with their #1 goalie injured that they are relying more on a strong defensive presence to cover the gap and thus enter Tryamkin. Another positive aspect in case we need to replace Tanev.
  5. You're just hungry. It was Krutov.
  6. I still find it funny that many on here would've traded Jake years ago. Also funny that Jake's development was questioned throughout the years.
  7. Schaller played 6+ minutes tonight. Madden is injured. That 2nd we traded is likely bottom half of the 2nd round (we will see how far we can push it down with Toffoli's help and in turn the 1st we gave up as well). Meanwhile, Toffoli has 4 points in 2 games thus far.
  8. It also appears they are playing Tryamkin bigger minutes down the stretch. I noticed he has surpassed Vasilevskiy for top minutes amongst the defense and this game is about 2.5 minutes above his average TOI.
  9. Obviously he’s on our reserve list,” Benning said Thursday morning. “Our pro scouts continue to watch and keep tabs on him. When his season is over and his contract is up, I’ll speak with Todd.” https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/patrick-johnston-gm-benning-hasnt-ruled-out-possibility-of-tryamkin-rejoining-canucks
  10. Not saying it's impossible. Just the biggest concern. We all know how some wives have a large influence. Perhaps she doesn't like the blah wintery weather here and prefers the sunshine all year.
  11. So I guess it depends if they want him back or not indeed. But a solid vet that wants to be in LA to work with the young guys is nothing to scoff at. Many people wanted Edler to do this. Toffoli didn't have trade restrictions and it brought back a youthful return and they could get him back as well. I'm not saying it's for certain as for Toffoli himself, I'm sure he wants to play competitive hockey. However his wife seems like a die hard LA lover, so I guess we will see how much his wife is a contributing factor in where he ends up. I'm not panicking about it, but at the same time, that's my biggest concern about whether he would re-sign here for sure.
  12. Yes and they have been in a different trajectory since 2011. I'm not concerned that they've been better. We needed a rebuild and a change of the core. We will get back there.
  13. https://www.hockey-reference.com/leagues/NHL_2020.html Based on this, Boston's average age is nearly 2 years older than ours (surely Chara bumps that up). With that said, we also have players like Bo, Jake, Brock, EP, Quinn appear seemingly overnight and have become the young core that I speak of. What's Boston's core? We literally had Gaudette beat out Baertschi for a spot this season. Our youth is coming in, but with a core that is young, they are getting veteran support. And like I said, once our core matures, we start seeing the current vets get pushed out and filled in with youth. This is because our core can start to handle the tougher minutes and also for cap reasons as they start getting paid the big bucks and our depth is filled with cheaper youth. Trust the process.
  14. My biggest concern is his wife. She just tweeted that "LA is home" and talks about her love for the Dodgers a lot (as she should since she works for them) and they have a dog named Dodger too. Hopefully there is a good network for the wives here and maybe she gets a gig with the Whitecaps or something so she can get comfortable calling Vancouver "home" if we are hoping he's more than a rental.
  15. Despite JB making the final call? I mean yes he's our head of amateur scouting and our drafting has been good so one can put two and two together, but it's likely Brackett presents a few players and JB ultimately makes the final decision. I think Brackett has been a boon for college level prospects, but some credit goes towards Benning's major principle of drafting for character which is aligned with the respect culture that he's been building through the whole organization. We won't know the full effect of Brackett until he leaves (to see if there is a difference in outlook), which I hope doesn't happen as he and Benning seem to work well together on the draft floor.
  16. If Kes did more than say hi to Kelly, then yes the destruction they would have done to the dynamic of our team would be catastrophic
  17. The 1st will depend how each team performs in the playoffs, assuming we both make it. Yes Boston is the better team on paper right now, but so was TB and they were swept in the 1st round. You never know where that 1st might finish. I doubt many people even knew who Axel Andersson was before this trade. I sure didn't, so hard to tell what kind of dman he is. Both were 2nd round picks (although Woo was 20 picks higher). Statistically on paper Woo looks better, but this is Andersson first season in NA coming over as a 19 year old, so maybe there's some adjustment for him. It is certainly arguable that Woo is better at this point though. Loui currently still plays in the NHL, however Loui has an extra year on his contract. That's major negative value in a cap dump move. So arguably whatever advantage we are giving up compared to Boston is negated by this extra year and possibly even more so.
  18. Backes with a year less remaining makes his price to move significantly lower. Backes didn't offer enough as a player for Boston to keep him.
  19. Chimera and Cogliano are a couple other examples of players who are fast that didn't have the hands though. Both still carved out good careers though. I just don't know if Kase is going to suddenly find his hands. Kase likely is a good 3rd line (2nd line fill in) player, but we will see how he does in Boston. Sometimes there are just right fits that take players games to another level.
  20. Baer and Sutter weren't UFA signings. We will likely buy out Baer next year and save some cap. Sutter could be traded if he remains healthy and has a decent playoff showing. I'm expecting that we look to trade Roussel this offseason as well. We are hoping for the gentleman's agreement that you're promising for LE. That will open up a nice wad of cap. Cap will rise as well. Assuming enough to at least cover the bonus overages for next season if not more. We will see how it all plays out. I have a feeling we will make it work. The fact that we could even afford to bring in "Tofu" is a nice work around from our cap issues. We will sign Marky to a reasonable deal and if he wants a payout, then we ride Demko with a veteran backup. We make the playoffs this year and the concern for the 1st given up is gone even if we falter next season for whatever reason. It'll also open up more room to tend extend Tanev (who I'm currently thinking is the odd man out cap-wise next season if we sign Marky) to build a solid D foundation in front of Demko.
  21. The Bruins can do this because their core is still playing well and are a veteran group. Our core is young and we have surrounded them with veteran support. When our core matures, then we will start seeing what Boston is doing. It's a process, trust it.
  22. Lundqvist isn't going anywhere. He might retire though. He's got a NMC and has been a career Ranger and seems to love it. Swedes are loyal for the most part. I think if there is a young goalie ready to take over then he will feel pride holding the fort long enough for them to turn things around again.
