[PGT] Chicago Blackhawks at Vancouver Canucks | Feb. 12, 2020
theo5789 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Usually just drunk. -
I don't know, but I remember how mad people were when we traded for him for the coveted Jordan Subban.
-
When will we hear the complaints about Benning/Johnson not planning ahead to have enough size on the team with the Canucks pillaging it all? Does anyone care about Utica?

Nevermind the fact that looking at solely points being the only criteria for a HoF player seems absurd. Dave Andreychuk didn't have HoF seasons in final 1/3 of his career. Igor Larionov had 644 points in 921 career NHL games. Just a couple of examples. The Sedins made an impact to the league. People around the league seemed to respect them as good people (aside from a few miscreants). They have hardware (although not the ultimate hardware that they would've liked). And ultimately they have the uniqueness of being twins and playing their entire career together at such a high level for so long. There is a lot more that makes the HoF worthy than simply looking at stats (which aren't even bad).

Don't forget the Sedin ceremony in between!

So much for all that recapture discussion. -

I certainly miss the dmen with the heavy accurate point shots. They are becoming extinct. -

Don't know if they actually lose the money, but rather the cap space which would be detrimental for any team. -

Have to wonder if something like this was considered, but Florida held us ransom and tried to pry an asset from us to allow it to happen in which we said no thanks and they went through with the retirement. Either that or maybe Luongo wanted to start the next chapter in his life in some sort of management role or whatever he is hired to do now instead of sitting around for 3 years and yes collect a paycheque, but can't really do much else. Although I feel like Chris Pronger had a head office job with the NHL or something while he was still on LTIR. -
Watching some highlights and hearing how they were national soccer players on the team, I can see the mentality blending from both games. In soccer, you tend pass into where a player will be, so it takes skill to get it there but also to read if the player will get there. The chemistry of the Sedins is knowing where they will be so they can pass it into a soft spot and know that the other will be there. Dump and chase is a simpler version that requires less thinking, but more effort. The Sedins made plays look effortless, but that's cause they were always thinking steps ahead. Have to wonder if EP saw this in Sweden and replicated it with Boeser here. The Sedins perfected the cycle and you can be damn sure that they were studied not only in how to check them, but to implement their cycle game into their own systems. Much like the slap pass. I still remember when Henrik was on a breakaway and passed back to Daniel for a goal. Who does that?

I hope he retires, just to see what happens. Edit: I should say I hope he recovers and can continue playing, but if he is unable, then the above. -
2010 Vancouver Olympics 10th Year Anniversary Today

Couldn't really afford to go to see any of the events live in the buildings, but I thoroughly enjoyed all the events and activities surrounding the whole thing. Went to several of the concerts and joined in the men's hockey celebration which was simply just joy. The weather wasn't very "wintery" which made these activities and events much more enjoyable. -
[Signing] Richard Bachman signs in Sweden

Another player bolting from Utica, they can't develop -
We all may have selfish motives, but some of us aren't as blatant about it. This Sedin week is a great example of it. There will be a entire night dedicated to their community work. The Sedins didn't seemingly show a selfish side of themselves to the public. Kesler was always treated amazingly here by fans and the organization during his time here. He's suggesting that we turned on him when in fact he turned his back on this city and now he's wondering why and feels hurt because fans are booing him after the way he left and all the actions that ensued. I think he cares because it was a large portion of his life which I understand. He wishes to be acknowledged for this time though for his own self being. He sounds like he expects gratitude for his time. It just doesn't sound humble to me. At the end of the day, I've always said I've respected and enjoyed his time here (I even have a couple of Kesler shirts), but his legacy now is in how he left. He talks about giving it his all here and is trying to say he's sorry for what he's done so that we will change our time towards him. I don't know if he expects cheers, but he certainly doesn't want the boos. I think there are plenty of millionaire athletes that don't act the way he does. I get what you're saying here. Perhaps the forgiveness is also towards myself for the anger that I did feel towards him. I guess in some ways, many of us follow the Canucks and hockey for so many years that it's been almost engrained. They have become an extension of family to us as we learn and feel so many emotions towards them and the game.

I'd like to start off saying that my viewpoint is that I am upset with the way Kesler left and I support booing him, however I do not want to see him booed tomorrow if he is announced. Just a warm applause and move on. With that said, reading that article continues to show the selfish (and dare I say ignorant) side of him. He is hoping for sympathy for his situation and playing the victim card. I think he is just realizing that his playing time is coming to an end and he wants the fanfare while hoping everyone will just forgive and forget how he left us. The points that stood out to me are that he is suggesting he will have his time ruined if he gets booed. So what? It's not his time, it's the Sedins'. He admittedly chose to play the villain and he is being treated as such. He wants to change the way he went about things and seemingly blaming his "discussion" with the team on how to word things despite the words coming out of his mouth. He suggests he wanted more anonymity for his family (fair enough), but apparently Anahiem and Chicago were the only teams that would provide this and not any other American city (I'm sure there were others in playoff contention at the time as well)? Do I think he gave his all during his time here? Yes, but was it for the team or for himself? Lots of warning flags that he was always trying to take care of himself first and foremost and while partly it is reasonable, you cannot expect a fanbase to feel compassionate when there are clear examples of players who also gave it their all and didn't give us a bitter end. It's like eating/drinking something that tastes good, but leaves an awful lingering aftertaste. All people will remember is the aftertaste and likely aren't going to make that mistake again. If he is truly apologetic, then I can forgive, but I won't forget.

https://www.capfriendly.com/players/antoine-roussel The clauses are shown here. I guess it depends if it's accurate or not.

Another reputation call. Penalty/misconduct for sure. Fine unnecessary other to set a precedent for any future infractions to book him.

[Report] Connor McDavid out 2-3 weeks
theo5789 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
I could see this. Like how Malkin seems to find another level when Crosby is out. I'd argue that Draisaitl has been more impressive this year than McDavid (from the little I've seen them play). -

It was nice to see the Sedinery on the first goal. I'm sure it was Sedin approved.
