  1. But didn't say he would be back with the Canucks specifically...
  2. Read the tweets above as to why his minutes are lower. He's being developed and not rushed. He's earning more minutes as he's playing better defensively. They are ensuring he can play a complete game which will translate well when he comes over. Think Jake and how we played him minimal minutes getting him to play the defensive game well and look at him now and the progression. He was sent to the MHL and VHL early on to get minutes. The teams are located near each other, so it's easy to send him to those leagues to get some playing time. He's barely seen MHL time as he's too dominant amongst the peers in his age group at that level. He's been getting more VHL minutes which is a men's league. And now he's progressing towards more KHL time. If he came over here, he would be getting the same minimal minutes treatment and maybe AHL time until he's trusted to be a responsible player. This is no different really, just in Russia instead. The way he's being groomed is going to allow him to step into the NHL almost immediately when he comes over. He might start with 3rd line minutes, but once he demonstrates that he's responsible and trusted, he will move up quickly. His passing is great (players couldn't bury the chances in WJ) and he's showing now a goal scoring touch with a decent shot and good drive.
  3. Pretty sure Rafferty plays mostly with Brisebois and it's because Brogan is an RD, not being forced there, so if he ever does play with OJ, it's because it would be an LD-RD pair. He's even a right shot. So yes if he makes it to the NHL it'll be on the right side regardless because that's the side he plays.
  4. Rafferty is RD. Whatever the case, it's great to have this kind of depth that could be moved for tangible assets and cheap quality players to help mitigate any cap situations. Things are looking up.
  5. How about that poor KHL development, eh?
  6. Tanev won't be a hot enough commodity for someone to trade for his rights. Rathbone is an LD. I agree that it's unlikely we have Tanev and Stecher here next year unless neither ask for raises or even a pay cut. Leivo is UFA, so he likely walks. Keep Motte. LE mutually terminating his contract is a dream.
  7. Don't forget everyone that if @Alflives is right, we apparently have a handshake agreement that LE retires after he gets his bonus!
  8. Hopefully Sutter can finish off the year (and hopefully a bit of a run in the playoffs) healthy and see what happens in the off season. I think a 1.2 million hit (anything over a million) the following year is a bit steep to take for someone that could still provide value if healthy. I'll have to see Hughes' sophomore year to gauge how much he will get, but if it's in the 7 million range, it'll be a long term deal and I'll be fine with that. Yeah I was think EP will be around 8.5 long term. I see projections of 10 million for EP and 9 for Quinn and the panic over that. I think we can manage 16 or so million for both EP and Quinn. If we can make a deal to rid Baertschi's contract, then I'm all for it. I just don't see a deal happening and I don't want to give up any asset to move him when we could buy him out and have a similar hit to retaining him at 50% anyway, so really the cost is that 800k the following year which I doubt will be make or break for us.
  9. Good to see that the league could pay for a portion of it too and not count against the cap. Maybe that's how the league can alleviate their BS with the Luongo recapture. Gaudette might not hit all his schedule A, but he's probably due for some. Although if we free up some cap this year, it could take away some of the carryover too.
  10. I think at that point, we will have a ton off the books (we will lose someone to expansion too). I also don't think Petey and Quinn are going to get deals as big as some are projecting. I think Sutter has more value in the league if he can stay healthy and be a tradable asset. Or he remains injury prone and we get his cap relief and wait out his contract. I don't think anyone is taking Sven which is why he's a buyout candidate for me and 800k in the following year is minimal IMO.
  11. I wasn't aware of Schedule A and B bonuses. Only looked at cap friendly and potential bonuses. IMO, Tryamkin will be vying for Tanev's spot in which case it's not a wash as there is savings there. And Stecher either takes less or we go with Rafferty who'd cheaper, so in the end, we lower the cost on RD. If we can make some trades to open up cap and retain Tanev and bump down Tryamkin, then the cap is a wash, but it's an alternative to making things work and upgrading the team.
  12. The bonuses are over 1.5 million. I don't think Marky takes less than 6 IMO (5.5 if he wants to go team friendly, but then we need to add possibly a NMC/protect him from expansion). Motte at 1.5 is where I expect him to be. I could see Gaudette going as low as 2 on a 2 year bridge. Stecher would be nice at 2 million, but not sure if he takes that although it's a possibility if he wants to stay and there's no higher bidders on the market (can't see us qualifying him). I'd like to see Tryamkin return and he might be around 2-2.5 million range. Can't see us fitting in Tanev unless we move some contracts out (which is where our biggest "savings" will be from). I think Baertschi will be bought out (makes no sense to really trade him with retention unless the retention is a million or less). Rafferty could replace Stecher potentially as a cheaper alternative. If Fantenberg stays, he will get a moderate raise. I'll be curious to see if we could move out Sutter. There surely is a plan in place as Benning doesn't seem worried at all.
  13. This is the whole Hutton issue all over again. If that's his expectations, then good luck to him getting that. What he is getting paid currently is likely his value for his next contract. If he wants to wait on a deal that pays more, he can wait and be forced to take a one year cheap deal to prove his worth on another team. RFAs can come to terms before exercising their RFA rights. We could simply not qualify him and either he takes our best offer or he can try UFA (and this applies to any team that possibly trades for him).
  14. What I quoted and bolded specified the sacrificing the body part in which I commented on.
  15. If the criteria is sacrificing the body for team is ring of honour worthy then yes.
  16. Did you take into account the bonus overages? I'm not sure Baertschi's cap simply disappears, we may have to retain or buy him out or pay an asset to move him. I'm not that worried about the cap either, but can't ignore those things.
  17. Am I really reading that we are worried about losing Teves and Rafferty in the expansion? If Rafferty can translate his game to the NHL, then he's protected. Not even worried about Teves. If they take him, we are laughing.
  18. There are still people waiting to dump LE off the roster or demote him as soon as possible despite him clicking well on one of our most effective lines so far. The nerve of LE making an impact to the team and not allowing himself to be hated on.
  19. If I remember correctly, he bowled through Demers and feed the pass over OEL. Either way, awesome indeed.
  20. So have we fired all our coaches and Benning yet? What a poorly run organization.
  21. You were the one that suggested they would try to target Hall or Kreider and suddenly they don't have much cap space (which is what I've been saying all along)? Right now they need to get back in the playoffs to worry about that. You agreed that Stecher is an upgrade to Weber and Irwin, so it's an improvement on the team. I've explained why 2.5 million is maybe 500k too high, but still reasonable for what he provides and he could always renegotiate a deal that is cheaper (in which case, I might be comfortable hanging onto Stecher if he's willing to go this route anyway). Fabbro may simply be going through that rookie grind. We have seen this from guys like Boeser and EP where in the 2nd half of the year, they get burned out over the long season. I expect Fabbro to be better next year, but instead of targetting a top 4 dman which would cost more than Stecher's 2.5 million or bargain binning for some aging vet, they could get a younger player that could ease Fabbro's minutes until he's ready to take back the top 4 spot full time and bump Stecher back to his regular minutes. If Stecher shows well, they could surely offload him to a team needing defense for a pick or whatever. Stecher was good enough to make team Canada, so surely that puts him on Poile's radar. Stecher wasn't horrible, just wasn't favoured in a short tournament, so I doubt all of Poile's assessment is relied on that. It may seem inconsequential to bolster the 3rd pairing, but it can create a ripple effect. When our 4th line wasn't clicking, the minutes were dumped on the top 3 lines. When Motte returned and made the 4th line a dependable line, suddenly we could roll 4 lines. You're the one mentioned that they have been sheltering their 3rd pairing, so what if they don't have to as much? It only makes the top 4 that much more effective within games and over a season. You also said that it's unlikely to have a major shakeup to the roster, so unlikely they will make a big move under new coaching, but adding a "3rd pairing dman" to see if it adds enough to the team to get them going doesn't seem like much of a risk or a shakeup. They are the ones that should be more desperate as we are above them while being an up and coming team and they are out of the playoff picture while being in their window. They want to part with Granlund, but have no viable solution to replace him and not much cap to work with, so what else can they do?
  22. Good people deserve promotions and more responsibility if they want it. If he is indeed on the move, then I wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor and I thank him for everything he has done for us. If this is all fake, then thank goodness.
  23. Stecher has averaged just under 15 minutes a night this year. If they get a better 3rd pairing, they could ease some of the minutes from the top 4 keeping them fresh and effective during a game and a season. Having a pairing of Dillon and Stecher would mean not needing to shelter them as much which is what they are doing with their D now and getting exposed for it. A couple of BC boys that Nashville seems to acquire plenty of. Perhaps the deal isn't around Granlund, Baertschi or Sutter, but Stecher would certainly be a nice fit there IMO. I think they can afford the 2.5 million for the upgrade as I think they're unlikely to make a big splash with their cap space next year without moving out more cap than the expiring Granlund and Smith. They are already in their window, so they need to figure out something fast before that window closes.
