  1. Well if you eliminate all the criteria and only look at the ones against the Canucks then sure. Keep in mind Poile has been their GM since the beginning. They had Trotz for years too (which got them punching above their weight near the end of his tenure). They have made one Finals appearance and mostly early round exits. They are falling out of contention again and he is being given another chance with another coach. If the Canucks were in the same situation, people would be calling for heads there too. The point is we are rebuilding and the mandate hasn't been playoffs the last few years. Can't say we failed to make the playoffs when that wasn't the priority. This year might be the first that we are seriously attempting and we are still well within striking distance. If we don't make it this year and are off to a slow start next year, I can see more concern. Benning has been turning this team around in relatively quick order and Green has been pushing this team in the right direction. There will be bumps along the road, but there is no reason to think we are out of the playoffs just yet. No team has clinched a playoff spot yet.
  2. Context matters though. The reason for lack of success is because of a rebuild. Everyone in the organization has preached patience rather than panic which is seen here after a couple of losses after a 7 game win streak. How many seasons where the mandate was to make the playoffs where we have failed? We don't know, but I imagine that ownership and management knows it's a process and other teams have struggled longer than we have. Poile comes to mind for multiple coaches, but he's had a long tenure. I think last year we actually punched above our weight considering our injuries. This year my expectation (don't know if it agrees with the team) is to fight for a wildcard until the end of the year and whether we make it or not is fine as long as we give it a fighting chance. Next year I expect us to break the threshold and thus why I agree with Green getting this year and a shorter leash next year. The Miller trade seems to agree with this in that we are protected should we not make the playoffs this year, but puts more pressure to do so next year if we don't make it this year.
  3. The only part that can be blamed on coaching is that they probably wanted to activate the D after falling behind early, so they played a more high risk game of giving up odd man rushes. Bad pinches are a decision of the players not making the right reads and the forwards covering need to do better. It was poor execution all night. Not to say the coaches are out of the woods as they need to ensure the players are doing the right things, but the players are very much at fault last night for many glaring errors. The coaches are not telling the team to have that many turnovers and missed assignments.
  4. I think the sooner people accept this, then they can focus on other parts of the game rather than trying to find ways to fire Green.
  5. I don't why people are all over Green again. Did Green tell Hughes to pass up the middle? Did Green tell Miller to cough up the puck in the neutral zone (there's no way because surely Green would've told his players to dump and chase)? Did Green tell Jake to miss an open net? We fell behind early from the Hughes gaffe and we took chances that ended up being costly trying to come back because we couldn't string passes together and players were bobbling the puck. Green did make the decision to get Boeser back on EP's wing even though he had Jake in his spot in practice and Brock was rewarded with a goal. The team suddenly loss their confidence again and need to bounce back once again. Let's just hope we do so sooner this time around, but the players need to execute better as well.
  6. The numbers don't lie over the time LE has been on that line. It was a combination of trying to spark some offense (other lines were mixed too), while rewarding Motte for his effort. Aside from a few shifts, Eriksson was still on that line. When we get bodies back, he may not stick, but if the line continues to play well then he will stay. Schaller is contributing towards the PK. Got rewarded with an assist tonight. I agree that Motte is the driver of that line, but we are going to be taking away from the PK with a Schaller for MacEwen swap. This might be fine as we do have Motte, Roussel and Eriksson still, but MacEwen would slot into the 4th line most likely and maybe onto the 2nd unit PP. Whatever the case, Schaller has been contributing and the 4th line has been pretty decent since Motte's return, but Schaller and Beagle have some chemistry too. Why would Marky never admit he is tired? He wants to contribute towards his team winning and he will let his coaches know if he cannot play at his best. The coach confers with their goalie to ensure they are good to go. Marky probably isn't that burned out because our games had been pretty decently spread out. Demko let in 5 tonight, so perhaps it's the turnovers and grade A chances that we need to stop giving up rather than simply Marky being tired. WADR your arguments aren't that strong either.
  7. Unfortunately the eye test has too much bias. People will see what they want to see (or what they don't).
  8. Okay we have missed the playoffs the last couple of years without Tryamkin. Partly due to the reason of being injured, especially on defense. More depth could've mitigated this (or is that also too what iffy to suggest?). Without this depth, we ended up where we did and drafted who we did.
  9. The Horvat line has been one of our most effective lines to date. People complain about a blender that Green uses and not that he's keeping a line that is working, it's a problem (because it's Eriksson)? Pearson is like a PPG over the last 25 games, so I think he's been a pretty good winger for Bo. MacEwen has been called up for injury relief. The 4th line has been very good and I would say a significant contributor during our streak because they allowed another line that could be played regularly. Schaller can PK, MacEwen doesn't, I would say that's a contributing factor. The 4th line had a poor game in Tampa, but certainly isn't deserving to be broken up just yet. As for Marky, it's a tough call because there has been enough breaks in between games to keep him going. I'm sure the team talks to him and asks if he feels ready to go. Let's not forget Demko is coming off a concussion, so they are being careful with him as well.
  10. Benning joined the team in the summer of his 1st season, so unlikely has set a foundation for his scouting. Still nabs 5 players that have played in the NHL. Didn't take too long for Benning to shift to a new head of amateur scouting. Benning got the job done in his 1st year and made further improvements following that. Hindsight reveals better players, but several other teams had passed on them as well. As for the 3 errors, you never give in to a low ball offer. You don't want to set that precedent for yourself. The following year we got at that time what we thought were very respectable deals for Hansen and Burrows on an expansion year. It's not Benning's fault that the team that wanted to make the deal decided to take their original offer off the table. The LE signing is what it is. He was coming off a decent year, we were hoping to give the Sedins another opportunity to win. We all know how it has played out. It certainly looks like Benning's biggest blunder, but he wasn't even the worst signing that off season either. I don't think we wanted to lose Tryamkin. Benning seemed to actually be caught off guard that he left. Benning had an offer on the table, but there seemed to be more than just a hockey decision involved. We may get back a very valuable asset during a time when our team is surging back to playoff territory. Perhaps not having Tryamkin here helped us tanked long enough to rebuild through the draft. Hoping he returns and is impactful.
  11. Disturbing wouldn't be the word I would use. He's a 7th round pick. I'm just glad that he's generating at all. I imagine it'll take at least 4 years if there's any expectation that he can round out his game and become a legit NHL contributor. Just enjoy this ride.
  12. He should have one more year of his ELC so he shouldn't require waivers. With that said, if he earns a spot out of camp next year, then it doesn't matter as we have demonstrated time and again.
  13. Well he has been around a while, he would be the oldest player on our team (beating out Eriksson and Beagle by months). If you think Edler has been here a long time, he's older than Edler by a year.
  14. Maybe the Canucks owed Tampa one for ripping them off in the trade.
  15. I wasn't knocking you. It was just one of those things in this thread that was ridiculous from the side that wanted to point out anything bad about Tryamkin without any knowledge about it. Almost an inside joke of this thread if you will.
  16. You haven't been following this thread then. He was the one that was given the captaincy when Tryamkin was "stripped" of it.
  17. He got a +1, he is ready. Call him up now!
  18. He had a cup of coffee in the MHL, dominated and hasn't gone back. He's playing regular minutes in the VHL (the minutes that you're suggesting he should be playing), basically their AHL (men's league). He had limited opportunities in the KHL (arguably the next best league after the NHL) at the start of the season, but he's getting more looks now. He just turned 18 in June. He's already into your 20-21 projection. With his experience against men already and his willingness and drive to already play defense (something that took a couple of years to get Virtanen accustomed to), he may bypass the AHL when he gets here. I would say he is ahead of Jake at the same age and Jake is starting to look pretty decent, so it's not really a negative comment to compare them. Something that should've been noted from the world junior is that Pod looks to be more of a playmaker with precision passes (but lack of finish prevented him from getting more points) rather than a shooter like Jake. Based on your comments, it's clear you have a preconceived notion towards Russians and seemingly a lack of knowledge of his development progress thus far.
  19. Another small upside is LE being rewarded with a goal with his nice little run on Horvat's line. While Pearson continues to quietly put up the points.
  20. I'm sure Hutton felt pretty bad too playing against us. The ASG is not a team thing, it celebrates individuals. EP, Marky (despite this poor outing), and Quinn all are having seasons worthy of recognition. It's an ugly loss which happens, but doesn't define our season and progression. Tampa is a good regular season team especially when they get going. There's a reason why they had an incredible record last season. We have blown teams out in similar fashion this year as well.
  21. This is a classic case of not knowing what's going on over there and having an opinion based on a few tweets that do not show the full picture. Don't worry, his development is going just fine so far.
  22. I feel like we've had some pretty bad nights since that article. But I can't remember, which is probably a good thing that I have erased those bad memories.
  23. I'm hoping he avenges the actions of Marchand that likely made him want to retire despite still playing decent hockey at his age.
  24. The article mentions a loss of 9-1 against the Ducks in 2014, which is the reason for the article. So 6 years ago and we loss by 7 goals as opposed to the 8 or more criteria there.
