  1. Looks like the Hitmen will be on SN tonight at 6PM against the Oil Kings for those that want a look at Woo and Focht in action.
  2. Simon Kubicek has interested me as a possible 2nd round pick, but even better if we could nab him in the 3rd round.
  3. Our PP only scores against bad teams (according to the fire Brown crowd). We scored 2 PP goals and therefore they're a bad team (according to the fire Green crowd). The fire Baumer crowd is silent for now. It's nice to see Virtanen on the uprise as Bennett is sinking (to go against the fire Benning crowd that trashed this pick for years). Still waiting for the fire Takahashi crowd though.
  4. Irony. The league was unprofessional and unacceptable with how they handled that situation, but yet no one is dealing with the league. Torts will be fined I'm sure, but the league will get off scot free.
  5. There is never any let up to the team bashing after every loss. Even on the current win streak, people are harping on the coaching still (just the focus has shifted to the defense coach). Unfortunately they have take it as they like to dish it out whenever they can. Perhaps Pat O'Neill didn't hand out the towels well enough tonight though.
  6. There were a few calling this the biggest game of the year or whatever. Myers stepped up with a 3 point performance. Has anyone complained about him tonight? How about the defense coach with us giving less that 30 shots tonight and perfect on the PK? Or did the players just stop listening to Baumer?
  7. Remember those early years when many suggested that Benning sucked at the draft? If you keep going, hopefully with Tryamkin returning, we drafted him in the 3rd round and they took Brandon Hickey.
  8. I'll take Ben Harpur for Baertschi. I know they probably can't find this deal under the cap, but that's about the only deal I'd make.
  9. Sam Bennett was supposedly a better pick than Virtanen. Glad Green helped him with getting his "stuff" and will give him a longer career.
  10. I know what you're saying, I was just trying to make a joke about the constant whining of the dump and chase model. I think some of the times when they could've iced it, they were gassed and either couldn't make the play they wanted or maybe were indeed hoping to not ice it, so they don't get stuck with a tired crew after an icing and forcing a timeout or continue another exhausted shift. They do need to improve on not getting hemmed in and indeed being stuck in the situation of being gassed.
  11. You mean Green should tell the players to dump the puck even more? CDC wouldn't be able to handle that. Of course there are parts of the game we could work on (every team does), but we pulled out a win which is the end goal. I'm certain the team continues to work on improving weaknesses. I can only speak for myself, but I've seen improvements in season, but it does take time to work out the kinks.
  12. Never said it was going to be easy, but that's the type of career I hope for. Strong on draws, responsible defensively while taking on top checking duties often and decent offensive instincts. Ryan O'Reilly is another good example though. It's better that we have players like this rather than not.
  13. I see the new flavour of the weak is to complain about the defensive system as if the coaching staff is telling the team to allow 40+ shots and not clear the puck and sit back as if that's the strategy. And I see that Myers looks to be the one singled out on the defense for the woes.
  14. Benning has been proving doubters wrong left and right (are there mistakes? Sure, the overall picture has been positive). People wanted change on the PP, they made changes, no credit goes to Brown as far as the vocal crowd goes. We busted out of our slump, but it's despite of our coach apparently. The defense may need some work, but may not happen overnight literally and figuratively. But history shows they are working on it and history shows that they have made effective changes over time. Patience and trust the process.
  15. Maybe coach Green gives the players creative freedom and now they have more confidence to do so? The dump and chase is a safe strategy when the plays aren't opening up the way you would like. In case you missed it, JT Miller actually likes the dump and chase model as he's very good at winning those races/battles and encouraged his linemates to do so (there was an article earlier in the year about it, so do you want to blame him too?). We have seen players like EP try entries without the dump and chase during the tough stretch and have them broken up (of course the blame was on Green for frustrating him too). Sometimes plays work, sometimes they don't. These guys aren't robots programmed by Green to execute the same plays over and over. Coaches have strategies in play for safe exits and hopefully controlled plays, but the players certainly have the freedom to make plays if they see the defense broken down or openings to occur. The coaches don't tell them what to do in this instance, but they allow them to take advantage of those opportunities. We've heard at the start of the year to blame Brown for the drop pass and the PP has adapted new plays on top of the drop pass (which also has been effective at times), but yet no credit goes to Brown. Coaches never get any credit, players rarely get blamed (expect the usual suspects for everything even out of their control or even when they have a decent game). I should add that when EP (and others) were getting broken up on plays, perhaps Green and the staff goes through videos with the players on different things to try and talks to other players on how they can create space for the controlled entries. There could be so many things that go on behind the scenes. The players don't seem to be as distraught about the coaching staff as some seem on here, so I imagine the coaching staff isn't as useless as some seem to think.
  16. We've had Benning criticized every which way. The PP coach was criticized at the start of the year. Green was most recently criticized. I guess the defense coach is next. After we tightening things up defensively, then who's next? Pat O'Neill better watch out.
  17. Apparently the only decision coach Green does is tell the team to dump and chase. All credit goes to everyone else until a loss, then every decision is blamed on Green.
  18. Good call tonight to start Marky. He was sharp when the team was half asleep coming off the break. Hopefully it's a wake-up call for tomorrow and assuming Demko will be starting to give him more support. That Miller trade continues to be a great acquisition nearly 40 games into the season.
  19. Capfriendly shows that he's still signed for this season with SJ and the contract has a European assignment clause. He's a RFA next year, so they likely retain his rights.
  20. Maybe so, but just saying we traded that 3rd, so who knows. Maybe they had someone targeted with that 3rd. I'm fine with how it played out. He was a very recently turned 18 year old. The KHL is arguably the next best league after the NHL. He's playing more in the lower men's league, so he's still playing against men. The defensive side of his game is something that many young players don't have. I'm not overly concerned about his offensive numbers. If he becomes a 50-60 point guy in the NHL (obviously the more the better) that plays in all situations and can be physical, I think that's perfectly fine for a 10th overall pick.
  21. Players jump into the NHL all the time from various leagues and perform well. There will be an adjustment period, but it won't be as long as his first time around.
  22. On the other hand, perhaps it would nice to have a guy that could possibly match up against a Reaves or Wilson, so they don't take liberties on us. Wilson is a dirtier player and Reaves is probably the best fighter in the game, but we don't have anyone close that can match up to them now.
  23. If we traded that 3rd, we wouldn't have Miller. I'll take Miller and Pod over Zegras (assuming the 2nd stays the same, although maybe we go in a different direction if we took Zegras). I don't think Pod is having a tough year at all. He's playing more games this year already surpassing the number of games he's played in the VHL and putting up a better point production so far. Not many 18 year olds seem to crack the KHL roster and yet he has seen some time there, more so than last year. He's continuing to develop, is part of the leadership group amongst the Russian squad, and has the drive to be a smart defensive player on top of adding some offensive punch. He's not stealing the spotlight offensively, but I think he will slot into the NHL rather easily with his play style especially after another year of development with likely more time in arguably the next best league after the NHL.
