Islanders improved because they got a legit coach who implemented pretty much a modern day trap system, not because Tavares left as a distraction. I don't know if it's solely on Duchene leaving that made Colorado better or maybe more along MacKinnon finding another level to his game and clicking with a young Rantanen.

How about don't boo him? And don't feed the media trolls. These two actions by so called "fans" are only hurting the team. It's not like he ran down the entire organization and the fanbase and how often does the media know what they're talking about, so why care about them now? I'm not suggesting we should waive Leivo for LE, but if LE is on the opening day roster, it's because he earned it out of camp. The Canucks management have demonstrated that they will waive those who don't earn their spot.

[Report] Wild fire GM Paul Fenton

This is the guy that wanted Boeser for Zucker, no wonder why he was fired. Wonder who's going to take the role now and what direction they will head in. Hopefully they hire a Garth Snow type and trade Zucker for LE. -
[Signing] Devils re-sign Nikita Gusev
theo5789 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If Hall is healthy and on his game, hes currently the best of the bunch. But beyond that, far more question marks for NJ. Is Jack Hughes ready for primetime at the NHL level? Which Simmonds will come to play? Last year's Simmonds wasn't top 6 quality. Is Gusev legit like Dadonov/Panarin or will he be more Shipachyov? On paper and individually, I can agree there's more skill there for NJ, but it's not a balanced top 6 and I think good teams can neutralize them easily enough to beat them. There's not much there defensively that can play those guys heavily and we will see if Jack can handle faceoffs at this level. We easily beat them in a playoff series IMO. -
Tell that to the Dan Cloutier era Canucks. Solid team and Clouts was an excellent regular season goalie behind a good squad, but we all know how that turned out. There's really no magic formula at least in playoff hockey, just who gets hot at the right time.

I noticed various posts around suggesting that they hope we can get Podkolzin here earlier (before his KHL contract ends), my question is why? He's developing in a men's league and isn't burning any contract years with us. He will come in as an ELC right around when we will be giving raises to EP and Hughes. If he comes as advertised as can step into our top 6, it will be good for our cap. If he's honouring his contract, it's a good thing. I don't feel any concern about him not wanting to come over as all he has said is that he wants to play in the NHL, but wants to be ready for the NHL when he arrives. This isn't any different then say a college prospect signing later after a couple years of school. We just need to be patient and there's no need for us to rush him in.

[2018-2019] Canucks Prospects Stat Tracker
theo5789 replied to Down by the River's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
It's based on points only too. Some people like to gauge players in this way, but it's completely wrong way to analyze the prospect quality IMO (but for their purpose of a fantasy league, it's fine). -
They don't understand our absolute top picks have already cracked the team, this taking a hit to the pool itself. They look at Utica and say where's the youth and ignore what we have in the rest of the system and therefore our prospect pool must not be up to par. We basically can be pumping in about a couple of players a year from our prospect group at the NHL level for at least the next 3-4 years and even more that could be getting into the AHL as our depth plugs up spots at the NHL level. A lot of the teams that have decent AHL teams have been bad for many years prior, so considering that we haven't been that bad comparatively and the fact that our prospect group was basically nothing when Benning came in, it's amazing how far this area has progressed in such a short time.

I foresee this thread turning another Miller/1st "debate"/whinefest.
-
No wonder there are some that are disappointed with our prospects.

Sutter (if healthy of course) because the new depth signed pushes down the quality to his line to make it more effective. Baertschi will actually be under more pressure to succeed or be pushed out which could light a fire under him, but will be battling for minutes all year if he can also stay healthy. Tanev could bounce back with more minutes taken off him, but I don't think Myers is that quality of dman to be able to push Tanev's minutes down significantly enough, so it'll come to if Stecher is ready for a bigger role and how Green deploys his dmen.

[Signing] Marcus Johansson to Buffalo. 2 year $4.5 AAV
theo5789 replied to qwijibo's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So you're saying that this team would be better off with Johansson and the 1st rather than Miller? If the team is better with Miller, then that's the cost to get a signed player (IMO on a decent contract) and for the more impactful player. I'm curious to know how you define significant (or what makes Johansson closer to Miller than what I believe) though because I explained some of the aspects as to why I believe he's significantly better than Johansson. -
If/when he returns to the Canucks, they'll say he's not loyal and a primadonna jumping ship from team to team.
-
No no, not relinquished, stripped. At least that's how the negative viewers will see it.

It would be a temporary solution to let things play out. Perhaps an injury or maybe a minor trade happens with a team needing a forward or something. Biega is the most expendable guy in thag group, so he's simply the odd one out at that point. I don't disagree with having 8 dmen as that is the route I would generally go, but just what i would do in that situation posed should we have a healthy lineup and Roussel is ready to return. It could be Fantenberg waived as well, but hes capable of playing both sides and from most accounts he's a good physical dman like Biega who's a bit younger and if all things are equal, i think Fantenberg gets claimed on waivers over Biega.

The pictures makes it look like some of the guys are doing this.

[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
theo5789 replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I've mentioned many times that the comments itself were very mild in nature and doesn't really hurt the relationship between him and the team that significantly. So I do agree that the comments itself are generally overblown by those who already hate the Canucks and want to create drama and those who have been looking for any excuse to get rid of LE anyway. If it was BB or EP that said the same things, Green would be put through the wringer instead. With that said though, I don't think there's any twisting into what he said. He meant what he said. I've concluded this because LE's agent made a statement that it may be best for hockey reasons that he would be moved on. And while Benning couldn't get a hold of LE directly immediately, he has done so eventually and it looks like the direction is to move him. Benning has threatened to send him to Utica if he continues to play his NTC to reject potential trades (which would suggest that there may have been possible deals already that was mixed, with the rumour of the Lucic + Puljujarvi swap being possibly one of them). So there's no beating around the bush in regards to his comments IMO. I thought he would be a good fit with the Sedins as well, but obviously that didn't play out. But this is where people who keep harping about how he got "gifted" plenty of top 6 ice time have been wrong. So he was put with the Sedins, but they were becoming shells of their former selves, so it was hard to say that LE with getting "top 6" time with them. The Sedins had become PP specialists near the end of their career and Boeser took up the prime PP spot with them (rightfully so). LE started last season with EP and people seem to forget that he actually played well with him (maybe because EP was on fire to start and anyone could've done well with him), but he was taken off the line because Boeser struggled out of the gate and never got a chance to be back on the line again. There just seems to be a wide range of perspectives on LE, but a lot of it is misguided with misinformation on both ends of the spectrum (whether from listening to media or whatever or simply choosing to ignore the facts because it doesn't fit their view). So as with most things, it's really somewhere down the middle IMO. I think LE is an effective player in a certain role with some potential to rekindle some offense, but he is indeed overpaid for this role. I don't think he absolutely needs to go, but it looks like the team is ready to move on from him (possibly he's ready to move on from here) and so be it. There's no need to run him down, but also no need to try to defend what he said anymore. If we move him, great, if we don't, we can still ice a team. So we are fine from a team perspective. -
It's okay, they haven't gotten much right, so they're just clinging on for dear life to whatever they can. No GM is perfect, so there's always something they can be "right" about.
-
This will never happen, they just cling themselves onto the next thing they can complain about.
