People (in general) can stop deflating those tires in the meantime as well. Just wait and see at this point.

Well they needed more RD depth which Borgman wouldn't have provided. He got a bunch of games a couple seasons ago because the Toronto defense had 3 guys healthy all year, but didn't get a single game this season. So Borgman is a serviceable callup, but Schmaltz might actually be in the NHL as a bottom pairing guy or a 7/8 (or 3/4 in the RD depth chart). In this scenario (I guess I should been more specific here) Schmaltz benefits Toronto more than Borgman does as he would be 5th on the LD depth chart at best so it remains a "positive" move for them.

If he doesn't like it, then that's too bad if that is indeed his ceiling. No one is going to hand him minutes he cannot handle. At least he would be easier for us to trade with him being here rather than overseas with the possibility of not coming back in this case and I'm sure some team would be enticed with the physical attributes to overlook his inability to play a higher role and pay a decent price.

[Rumour] Jonathan Dahlén to Timrå IK
theo5789 replied to ForzaTikare's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Don't know what the exact reason is, but it doesn't matter to us what it may be. Dahlen as an individual did not do what it took to get to the next level. If NA hockey is too physical for him, then the league isn't changing for him. If he doesn't like the coaching, they're not changing for him specifically. If he was bullied, then it is up to him to bring it up to those that will listen. Maybe he's afraid to bring it up, which is understandable, but he's gone through 3 NHL teams and I doubt he has a target on his back to be bullied by all these teams. So I don't know what the issue may be, but with what we do know, it looks more like it's simply on him not wanting to put in the work to make it in the NHL. -
[Rumour] Jonathan Dahlén to Timrå IK

Those players have nothing to do with Dahlen other than being Swedish. There are certainly incredible Swedish players and no one is running down the Swedes here. People are questioning Dahlen's character as an individual regardless of what nationality he is/would have been. It could be an age thing where a younger generation may feel more entitled. There are many factors that it could be, but it all comes down to the individual. Maybe he will excel with a different coaching approach, but he cannot expect the coaching to change their ways specifically for him. He refused to admit he demanded a trade, but it might be more beneficial for him to admit he did to show that he wanted to find a situation better for himself. In the end, he did get traded and did not seem to find a fit on a new team. It is not the Canucks' duty to find a trading partner that will cater to his needs either. Dahlen has taken his own path to appease his learning curve and that is to go back to Sweden and we will see if he ever makes it back to the NHL and faces the challenges to overcome here. -

He wasn't happy with the coaching system, but that doesn't mean the system is wrong and you change the system. Seems like most do what they can to get to the next level and the ones who don't want to put in the effort end up walking, which is fine by me. It seems like the new "modern" style of play is effort on both ends of the ice and playing all as a 5 man unit in support of each other. There's no more of putting players in where they should fit to succeed and you have to earn it. Eriksson is living in this past where his previous coaches just gave him the top 6 spots and now that he has to earn it, he's no longer seeing things eye to eye with the coach. Dahlen seems to be living in this past as well and now he's gone here and SJ may just let him walk as well. -

I'm not sure a "modern" leadership approach would work. As a coach, you need to be consistent. Can you imagine giving a player hell to try to motivate them and then they see you coddling another player? Players need to adapt to systems and show their worth to a team. They need to grow into roles if they're aren't there right out of the gate. You may lose some decent talent, but the coach needs a structure and stick with it and not bend too much otherwise players will continue to push their limits and see how little they can do to get to where they want to be. They are trying to build a competitive hockey team and not some group therapy session where they play hockey on the side. If there is a "modern" version of coaching that supposedly brings out the best in everyone and everyone on the team is fine with that approach I would surely like to read more into it. Some players have all the talent in the world, but if you don't put the work in, you're never going to make it. -
700k probably wouldn't be far off our 900k offer after taxes, so makes sense for him to also go to a contender. Plus it looks like he might be slightly higher on the depth chart in Tampa than he would be here.

[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
theo5789 replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I find it funny that people keep saying that LE has been gifted so many opportunities and yet his minutes have decreased every year here. Now people will say he hasn't earned the minutes, so he's rightfully getting lower minutes, but then he's not being "gifted" any minutes now is he? So let's put this back into perspective that LE has been given some opportunities with top 6 players like the Sedins in his 1st season (but the Sedins were declining to almost PP specialists at that point) and he saw some time with EP in which he actually looked decent, but was pulled off the line not because he wasn't performing but because they wanted to ignite Boeser and they stuck with that. LE did get some time at the end of the season on Bo's line, but it's hardly him being handed plenty of opportunities. With that said, LE has no one to blame but himself as he should be finding that next gear rather than hoping the coach gives him the opportunities. He needs to take the minutes that he is getting and show the coach he deserves more time and he does sporadically and Green does reciprocate by upping his ice time on the nights that he is performing well, so he needs to be consistent in his effort. -

I'm not swayed by anything. I'm agreeing with you. I just think it's funny how people's thought processes are. -

Its funny how because people were rooting for Dahlen, the problem was Cull and Utica. But in LE's case where there's not much support there, it's LE's fault and not Green. Not saying I'm blaming Green, but funny how perspectives change. -
It all comes down to money in the end. What if those players get injured and are out for a month? Teams need to be prepared for this situation anyway.

[Signing] Devils re-sign Mirco Mueller
theo5789 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Mueller certainly hasn't lived up to expectations, but all teams have some busts in the 1st round and some gems in the later rounds. But IMO it's more on Mueller himself not performing rather than SJ being able to project a bust. If it is though, then that's why I'm saying that maybe we shouldn't be taking on their castoffs anymore. -
[Signing] Predators re-sign Colton Sissons
theo5789 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They did something similar with Jarnkrok and he's been a consistent 30 point 3rd liner. Sissons doesn't seem far off and is paid more due to inflation really. These are the types of players I was hoping Markus Granlund would be. -

I'm not really agreeing or disagreeing, but just that if it's so telling that when San Jose gives up on development of a player, then perhaps we should stop trading for them as we have done a few times in the past as demonstrated. I'm just not sure though if them "giving up" on developing a player is such a surefire way of determining whether a player will bust or not. I think it generally holds true whether any team gives up a prospect that maybe they don't see much of a development curve and some just beat those odds sometimes or they were a good prospect in a bigger trade. But it's not dependent on how good of a developmental team they are. -

A coveted 6th round pick. -

Maybe so, but that means SJ is done with developing him (gave up), so I guess there's not much left there. -

Just like San Jose gave up on Goldobin and Perron? And in some ways Linus Karlsson too? Maybe we should stop trading for SJ prospects if it's telling when they're willing to give up on their guys. -

Burrows played ball hockey every summer. It's good cardio, so hopefully that means Ferland has a good motor all year much like Burrows did. -
Sutter was playing injured the entire year basically. That wasn't the normal Sutter. Benning has proven that he will make room for those that have earned it, so we will see how camp plays out, but I was simply answering how we can fit Goldobin into the lineup along with Baertschi. We could also send Biega down and have 14 forwards, but that seems like overkill to me.

I believe it was mentioned that that Podkolzin was like 8 or 9th on the Canucks' list. So while we still punched above our draft spot according to our list, I'm sure Benning and crew would've preferred maybe someone in the 6 or 7th on their list. They said if he wasn't available, they would've traded down, but maybe that was also when they thought Seider could've been available lower too. I can't wait for the draft coverage video that they usually have to see the reaction though.
