"My only concern is that he struggled in the KHL towards the middle to end of last season . He was stripped of the C one month after getting it , and even healthy scratched . Got off to a great start as their #1, ended up stripped of the C and sitting on the bench. Not a great sign . Especially considering the issues he had here with entitlement. " @cuporbust you posted this in the now locked thread, so I thought I would comment on it here. The captaincy issue has been discussed and it is believed that Nigel Dawes was always the captain of the team and they gave it to Tryamkin (may have rotated it) until he came back. So I wouldn't call it "stripped" but rather as a good sign that they felt he was deserving of it at some point in the first place for his leadership. The healthy scratch was also discussed in that they were rotating their dmen to keep them fresh and healthy and it was simply his turn when he was scratched. It wasn't a result of poor play. I imagine the minutes also fluctuate for this same reason. Tryamkin is far from a complete player and I don't think he's a fitness freak or anything so while he has many desirable attributes as a player, I'm not surprised that he will have his struggles. Hopefully he continues to progress and realize that being in top shape will make you an even better player and have a longer career. It's definitely a concern if he never figures this out, but at worst he's a bottom pairing dman at the NHL level.

The last update seemed to be that his recovery time from surgery was 6-8 weeks back in March. So I would think he would have begun working out and there's been rumours that the Canucks may be looking to see if any teams want to take him on. But other than that, no concrete updates on his health status.

[PTO] Michal Neuvirth with Maple Leafs
theo5789 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
He's very inconsistent IMO. Not sure I'd call him a legit backup. With 2 goalies per team and rarely any team carries an extra, there's always going to be limited spots. I imagine this move is more to get Sparks motivated. He didn't have a great year last season, so they will light a fire under him and potentially have Neuvirth take his backup spot if he doesn't step up. It's also to add depth after they got plundered of their goaltending depth last year. -
He didn't show enough for me to have earned a full time spot last season. We no longer have the room to develop players at the NHL level, so unless he has an incredible camp and knocks someone out, I have him down in Utica to start. Still a long off season, but I'm expecting us to try to up Sutter's value and moving him sometime this season if possible, but if he gets hurt again, then Gaudette will replace him. I think Gaudette will benefit from getting more minutes in Utica and hopefully not being called back and forth to have some stability in development. The fact that he's doesn't need waivers also puts the odds against him.

Benn is capable of playing on the right side by all accounts that I've read. He provides the stay at home dman capabilities to balance Hughes' offensive side and possibly lack of defensive game. Benn is also decently physical, so a better version of Schenn that we had last season. Tryamkin can both both sides too and is actually a leftie that has played on the right. I would like to see the two towers together at some point during their time here too!

It could make sense to have Stecher with Edler. @18W-40C-6W seems to be suggesting with the partnership with the return of Tryamkin and looks like Tanev is out. If Myers is not strong enough defensively then Benn can move to the right side where he's perfectly capable which leaves Tryamkin with Myers, the two towers. Edler-Stecher Hughes-Benn Tryamkin-Myers The minutes would likely be more balanced out rather than the typical numbers, which is good for Edler for his health and longevity and allows more growth of Hughes. Depending on the game if we need to become more defensive or offensive, they could shift the pairings. Chemistry might be questioned if pairings are shifted in game, but having partnerships change on a PK or PP, so they just need to practice with one another and get used to everyone's tendencies.

Ferland-EP-BB Pearson-Horvat-Miller Baertschi-Sutter-Virtanen Leivo-Beagle-Motte Goldobin Edler-Tanev Hughes-Myers Benn-Stecher Fantenberg, Biega Schaller, Eriksson waived/traded. Am I missing someone? If Tryamkin is signed this offseason, we send down Biega. When Roussel returns, we will have to see if we have further injuries and figure thing out then.

[Signing] Hurricanes re-sign Brock McGinn
theo5789 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Forgot about this, but thanks for the reminder. Poor man's Miller I guess. But I'm sure there's a crowd that would've preferred him still if he didn't cost a 1st despite being a lesser player. -

[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on

Between Lucic, Ladd and Alzner, not a good look for the BC boys. LE decent defensive play may fit into their new defensive style. Ladd is an alternate captain there though, so they may value is leadership/presence. Ladd has the extra year though, so it's similar problems to those who were against the Lucic extra year. -

Then Montreal might as well buy him out themselves. Obviously Sutter would have more value, but the point is they likely don't have a need for LE to make the deal and they're not going to pay the value of Sutter considering he hasn't been healthy. Don't see a deal between these two teams that makes sense for both sides in regards to LE. -

Alzner spent the majority of last season in the AHL. Even if he could PK, Montreal felt he wasn't worth keeping up at all. The main reason to acquire him is purely for cap dump (and I would consider it simply because it saves more cap when he's sent down and perhaps he wants to stay out East so Utica would be fine). There could be a deal here if they want to bite, but they have a plethora of wingers and they need more legit top 6 centers. They might be more interested in Sutter, but until he's healthy, he's not going to do much for them either. -

Hitchcock has praised his forecheck many times. It might be fluff from his coach, but it's just like how Green was trying to point out all the positives of LE as little as their are and Hitch has been specific about the forecheck. In a playoffs series, having a 230 lb player even having "inconsequential" hits on you will wear you down. But yes another domino has fallen. I wonder what's next in the LE saga. -

Or consider this, how many hits of his 259 did he not have to respond to because no one was willing to stand up to do so? We may not have seen many games, but we saw our star player taken out twice last season from cheap plays or having a Boeser trying to stand up for himself and nearly wrecking his career, so that's plenty enough for me. Of course it's better to have your deterrent on the ice to exact revenge immediately, I'm not denying that, but to suggest Lucic isn't one at all is false. At this point, it's really one of the few positive points you can say about Lucic. Reaves is effective in the playoffs because he's running down the dmen. Lucic is similar in that even if it's not a massive hit, having a 230 lb guy bear down on you and getting the licks in (can't say he can't hit with 259 last season) is going to wear down guys in a playoff series. He needs to up his overall game to get back value of his contract, but his physicality/deterrence should not be downplayed. -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
theo5789 replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Fair enough on the similar stature, but it prevents maybe a Hamonic fighting a Gudbranson at the start of last year in response to Dive taking a big hit. Or having someone say a Matt Martin run our smallest dman for example. Answering right away is usually the immediate response, but if you want further payback or don't have the personnel to do it immediately, it helps to have a guy that can do it and Lucic has gone batsh*t crazy before chasing a guy down should they choose to run. Lucic is certainly still overpaid for the role provided simply as a deterrent, but I just don't think the original post that I responded to suggesting he isn't a deterrent is false with misleading information. -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
theo5789 replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The point is he is a "deterrent". You throw a cheapshot or in this day and age even a big hit on a star player, you need to answer the bell. You can try to run from Lucic, but it doesn't look good on you, just see the reaction Matheson got in the game after the hit on EP where he was ridiculed for not fighting. So knowing that, teams may think twice. Sure we have some grit in Miller and Ferland, but if they're taking on a fight against Lucic (even if our guy wins the fight), it's not a decent trade off. Lucic is actually a 5.25 million "waste" of cap space now. The worst part of this deal is that they retained the NMC, but he could very well waive it for the expansion as maybe he wants to stay out West close to home and family, so Seattle maybe not be unattractive to him (and correct me if I'm wrong, less taxes too). But he likely has the mindset that he's not getting taken by Seattle either and helps his team protect someone. We will see how that part plays out because if he doesn't waive it, then this looks really bad for Calgary unless he ups his game back into protect worthy territory. You should thank LE for the rumoured denial to be traded to Edmonton. -

A bit misleading, you're talking two calendar years and 2019 isn't done yet and he may want to make a mark joining a new team (he had 6 fights in his 1st season with Edmonton and 5 with LA in his one year there). He's actually had 6 fights in his last two seasons, which is lower, but not as low as it's being portrayed. -
[Report] 40 players elect salary arbitration
theo5789 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I predict a 2.25 million dollar deal, just a matter of term. These cases always tend to just go right down the middle especially if it gets to arbitration. -
We have enough money to sign Boeser now. Schaller will be off the books after next season should we want to give a moderate raise for Markstrom or maybe Demko even takes over by then. Sutter, Baertschi, Edler, Benn and Pearson all expire before EP and Quinn need to be re-upped. Now I know those guys need to be replaced, but it's a good thing we should have an almost NHL ready Podkolzin and maybe Hoglander by then amongst other depth like Madden, Woo, Lockwood, etc that should be cheap thanks to Benning's drafting.

[Speculation] Lucic says he would like to play here
theo5789 replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
When did I say Puljujarvi would be enough of a sweetener? I didn't make up the rumour. You continue to create stories that don't exist into your argument against me. This is why I can not have a proper discussion with you even if I tried. I've been the one that has been defending LE on his comments, you don't need to preach that to me. At the end of the day he did make the comment and it's up to Benning to determine the severity of it and it seems like by most accounts they're looking to move Eriksson and have even threatened Utica, so it looks like Benning has made his decision on how he feels about it. -
[Speculation] Lucic says he would like to play here
theo5789 replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
If they don't give up what we (Canucks management, not armchair GMs) want, then no deal made, no problem. Let's keep in mind if there's any truth to the rumour that LE nixed a deal for him to go to Edmonton for Lucic + Puljujarvi, then maybe the Canucks management felt that was enough, but what do they know? Sheesh. There was another rumour about threatening LE with Utica if he uses his NTC to prevent a deal, so that adds fuel to that fire. They don't need to send Lucic to the AHL because he can still play a role in the NHL level and he hasn't said anything vocally against him team to warrant the need to get him off the roster. Their cap is fine, not ideal, but they are not desperate to move Lucic either for cap reasons alone. The expansion spot is a kicker, but he could easily waive it for expansion purposes as Seattle is "close to home" if that's his wish in limiting trades in the first place (or he can hinder the team he plays for and be a selfish guy, we will see). Edmonton's problems as a team go beyond Lucic himself. I understand we want to win this deal by a landslide because who wouldn't, but while Lucic has those limiting factors, we have the player that's disgruntled and could cause problems. We could send him to Utica, sure, but that's just under 5 million of pure dead cap space with the 3rd year added to Luongo's recapture to make about 8 million of dead cap on an EP/Quinn extension year with BB supposedly locked up already. I don't think we have an issue of not being able to re-sign those guys, but it's going to hurt our depth in the process and we may have to pay the piper then. If there's a better deal out there, I'll 100% take it, but that's not the discussion in the Lucic thread. This is about if this is the best avenue. As bad as Lucic may be, he has stated he wouldn't mind playing here, so at least we have a player that wants to be in our system, so hopefully we get some worth for a couple more years and considering moving him at further retention (assuming Edmonton retained a bit to make the deal originally) and if we have to pay a small price to do at that point, it's mitigated by the add we would get in the original deal.
