  1. I believe Switzerland is one of the best places in the world to live. Not sure if he's single, but lots of beautiful women (and men) there. It's not a terrible league either. I think I'd prefer it over KHL (and considering he just got a nice buyout from his contract, so not like he's desperate for the money.
  2. The dream would be to clear out his cap 100%, but that comes at a steep price. Teams aren't lining up to help us out. We have to make the best out of the situation whether it's Lucic or not, but we may have to get creative about it. If LE isn't cooperative, then AHL he goes, but that only saves us just over a million in cap space.
  3. Thought he still had more to give at the NHL level, so hopefully he lights it up there and gets some NHL scouts interested. Another career derailed after joining Edmonton. We tried to revive his career (see Pearson and Schenn), but it was too late and his injury didn't help.
  4. In this case, you cannot ignore the 4 million bonus. The bonus is meant for this season, so it's not just burying his 1 million dollar salary this season, but also burying the 4 million bonus. That included in the equation means more than Gagner annually and for the remaining duration of the contract.
  5. The sad part even after telling them this, they just go all And then continue on their Benning rant repeating the same garbage.
  6. Half the league are lotto pick teams. If we squeaked into the playoffs every year but simply get knocked out early every year, I'm sure you'll be suggesting the team is forever in mediocrity. If we iced a Utica roster, I'm sure the Benning haters crowd would love that to force him out. It's impossible to please everyone until we win the Cup (and even then I'm sure there will be some whining still) and teams have taken many different routes to get there, so there's not one path to success. What we do have is a team that transitioned from one core to another during Benning's tenure so far and incoming depth like we've never seen before. I'm perfectly fine with the way our team is being built and feel far more embarrassed for Ottawa. I guess we will see if they're doing it right soon enough.
  7. He isn't telling anyone to buy tickets now. He's telling them their "plan" whether you believe it or not. If you're a Sens fan/supporter, it's up to them to decide how they want to spend over these next couple of seasons.
  8. See above. We will see what Melnyk has in store after this season and maybe the next. Maybe it's why he doesn't want to hinder himself with LE's 3rd year on his contract because they plan on making a push by then. Those guys can decide then how serious they will be. If anything, they can probably get a bigger payout with Ottawa with their space than potentially other teams.

  10. He's been pretty clear about not spending until after rebuilding through the draft. It's funny because people are critical about this, but many have preached that we should go the same route.
  11. Agreed, but trying to point out that Vrana is an RFA because I'm assuming he/she is comparing our previous UFA signings (eg Eriksson, etc).
  12. Most if not all of our RFA signings have been "steals" or very good value at least.
  13. I believe that top quote is what originated that conversation. You made it sound like Ottawa needed to add more players to ice a team. Also suggesting later on that it's an AHL calibre team. They made a swap of players, therefore not adding any more "real live players" and LE (and Anisimov) isn't going to make their team any less AHL calibre anyway as they swapped out a vet for a vet. It was simply a deal where it made more sense financially for Melnyk which was has always been proposed at least from me. They happened to just choose a different player to fill this goal and perhaps LE nixed going to Ottawa. Nothing to be smug about here IMO.
  14. I don't think I personally said that. I think I was saying that we shouldn't be thinking they wanted LE as a boost to their roster. It would strictly be a financial decision like this deal was. I doubt they acquired Anisimov thinking he would better their team (out of the AHL realm).
  15. I'm not sure what you're referencing to. They moved out a player and acquired a player. They didn't add anyone, so their roster is still the same. They took on a guy with a higher cap hit and lower salary (which was the basis of me suggesting LE for Smith the entire time). Same term though, so no sweeteners involved because it benefitted both sides equally. Most likely Ottawa wanted a significant add for taking on the extra year (which seems like the trend now) of LE and Benning isn't doing that. One less trading partner for the Canucks to make, so this is bad for us.
  16. Sadly Edmonton being a "cluster&^@#" could play a part here. When he was given the opportunity, he put up a 50 point season in his first year. For whatever reason, they shifted the focus more and more on simply playing McDavid as much as possible. Now I'm not saying Lucic can keep up with McDavid, but not many players can which is maybe why he tries to do a little too much in his own. We don't have a McDavid on our team to worry about this. So his minutes dropped and maybe it is because Lucic is dropping off, but there's a real possibility that they are just a mismanaged team and I've given examples. He's become an overpaid grinder, but if he does get traded here, I'm curious what he does in camp, plus what substantial sweetener we may get. You say to pay the asset to get rid of Loui, if it was a cheap asset, it would've done already, it's going to be significant just like whatever asset we would get to take on Lucic. Like I've said, I'm not advocating it, but it may be a real possibility and I will look at it in a positive way if it does happen and hope for the best.
  17. Is Loui retiring? Nothing seems to indicate it, but I guess we can make his life miserable until he does. Good look on a team.
  18. So if they retained and we get a 4.5 million Lucic, you don't think it'll be easier to move say a 2.5 million Lucic should we retain after a couple of seasons especially if the cap continues to rise? It's not a fascination, it's trying to think in creative ways on making this work for us. No one is suggesting we must acquire Lucic. This is a discussion board where ideas are set forth but hardly anything posted here ever happens.
  19. Edmonton is hardly the prime example of knowing how to utilize their players. We have seen time and time again players leaving that organization and finding themselves performing better. They wanted scoring wingers, but inexplicably never tried Ryan Spooner in that role for example. They made promises for Cagguila about playing with McDavid and never did. I guess no one is good enough for McDavid (or maybe McDavid doesn't make those around him better?). They shifted from playing more of a 4 line game 3 years ago with Lucic's best numbers in Edmonton, then gradually shifted more and more playing McDavid as much as they could. I'm not saying that Lucic will suddenly become a better player here, who knows (we all thought Schenn was done too), but LE is a distraction now and getting rid of him has benefits to us in that sense as well. We need to stop looking at it as if it's LE for Lucic straight up. There would be much more involved in the deal and that will play a big part in the overall trade if it ever happens.
  20. Well obviously if Holland isn't willing to pay the price to make the deal, then we forget about it. I've said time and time again that it depends on what's added to the deal and not Lucic himself. But I am trying to suggest that camp will decide where he fits in the lineup. The risk we would take on should be mitigated with the additional return we would get. I've hardly been pumping Lucic's tires, but simply suggesting he would battle for a spot and there is opportunity because it's not like the competition blows him away. If Lucic cost around the 3-4 million range, there would be less gripes about him much like Eriksson. We have seen Vancouver "fans" suggest we dump players left and right without much context. There's a lot of the vocal crowd that doesn't know what they're talking about other than pure overexaggerated reactions.
  21. Why would Columbus be forced to spend more than the cap floor? There may not be many good UFAs left, but LE doesn't really make their team better looking at their current lineup. I doubt LE will be their plan B after missing out on Marner. They're simply shooting for the moon for Marner to try and get top end talent which LE is not.
