  1. I don't think he will match his totals last year, but who knows. I think he will drop back down to about 40-45 points, but still a 20+ goal scorer. It's a decent deal, but we got basically the same production in Ferland with the physicality that Dzingel doesn't have. Hopefully he's ready to storm surge.
  2. Dzingel took 95 faceoffs last year and was around 40%. Not sure how he could be a 2C.
  3. And you would find some ridiculous proposals here overvaluing our players as well. Pearson and essentially 2 2nds doesn't seem like such a low ball offer IMO. I could see them wanting a 2C, but if there was one available, I'm sure a deal would've been made already. Pearson would be further along than Virtanen should they be looking for a winger that will help them now. Perhaps they will be more interested in Sutter if we retained salary which could nearly balance out the cap should he be added to Pearson. Let's keep in mind there are some pundits that have called Ristolainen one of the worst dmen analytically as well (which I don't personally believe), but his value may not be as high and Buffalo is simply playing a waiting game. We also have the favourable odd of being a team in the "other" conference to mitigate the risk of moving him should a similar offer be made from an Eastern team.
  4. If say Virtanen is someone they're maybe interested in. I had a curious thought about trading Pearson instead. If Buffalo is serious about trying to make the playoffs, I would think they would be more interested in a slightly older player rather than more of a gamble not knowing what they'll get in Virtanen. If we have upped his value back into a top 6 forward, then we are selling him while his value is high as he could fall right back to being a bottom 6 type player. Pearson would add some grit to their top 6 to go along with their skill. I think we have enough players that could be battling for that top 6 spot that it's worth the addition of Ristolainen. Now of course more needs to be added (maybe add a prospect like Gadjovich or Lind and a 2nd or 3rd), but this could keep Virtanen here. The draft pick would be recovered potentially from a Tanev deal and having prospects like Podkolzin and Hoglander make me feel more comfortable moving one of those prospects.
  5. Curious to hear the Canucks season ticket numbers after the Ferland signing.
  6. I read about some feud too. Makes you wonder why they simply didn't add Kapanen as a sweetener to offload Zaitsev. Have to wonder if they are exploring trading Matthews as he may become a headcase in the future (I get the impression he's likely the problem). They could probably find a legit 2nd line centerman that would come at a cheaper price which will help along extending their other players.
  7. I think if Canucks brass had talked to him about playing with Pettersson and Boeser, maybe he would know how to pronounce their names lol He's probably just listing a couple of the star players that he knows on the team. Just like everyone is excited to play with McDavid, but never do. Ferland has a chance to play on the line, but he's going to have to battle Miller amongst others who are all vying for that premium spot.
  8. Reading that article, I don't get any sense that they want us to trade him at all costs. It does sound like a trade would be favourable, but they are far from pushing for it (at least from what I'm reading) not expect the Canucks to punish themselves to make it happen. All that is said is that it's like someone else in the same situation likely heading back to make this work so they are scoping the league to see if there is a fit. They're saying that if it wasn't for his contract then likely there would be more suitors, so that could really mean that if we retained some cap, it could also work. Just looks like they're working together to find a solution. I'm not sure of the rules, but I believe terminating the contract would mean he still can't play in the NHL for the duration of the terminated deal so he would have to play in a different league (at least from what I gathered from other posters). Clearly it's been discussed that Utica/AHL is a possibility, but his agent is trying to sell hard to not have that happen. Benning is simply showing that he's trying what he can and willing to do what makes sense, but getting Barry to do the legwork finding a trading partner. This shows that Benning does care and if it gets to the point that he doesn't send him to the AHL that all avenues were explored so the team and management should not be looked down upon.
  9. Would be funny if Gusev decides to go back to the KHL rather than play for the Oilers.
  10. We need to improve that RD. If we were to start Rafferty, we may as well have signed Schenn and offered him a spot. And if anything, it'll be Fantenberg in the lineup most likely over Rafferty. With that said, with the Ferland signing, I'm curious if maybe we could move Pearson in a package for someone like Ristolainen. I know most have him pencilled in as Bo's winger, but I think we could put Baertschi back in that spot and Leivo/Goldobin/Perron as insurance, even Roussel looked decent with Bo too and had a career high production. It'll be selling Pearson while his value is high considering aside from the short stint here, he was pretty much a bottom 6 guy on two previous teams. Buffalo may value him because their top 6 is a bit light. There could use a bit of edge there to balance some of their skill. Ristolainen would be a nice upgrade to our defense. We could add in a Schaller for cap balance and add a 2nd/prospect (assuming we replenish some picks from moving Tanev). Going a bit off topic here, but to get back on track, if we do move Eriksson for Lucic, we could garner back a pick (also would help mitigate using picks to add value in adding Risto) or maybe add a Puljujarvi who would fit in hopefully with the size aspect that we have going on lately.
  11. You don't think Benning and crew weren't conscious about it? I'm sure they didn't sign Eriksson with the mindset that he would be where he is today. If he was the player they expected him to be, then he would be paid just fine at his salary. Almost every GM has bad a signing they've probably regretted and if not already, then they will eventually. You take risks to boost your team and not all pan out. We are close to the cap, but we don't have cap problems just yet so I would say Benning was very conscious about it. While many were dreaming of Panarin or EK, Benning actually said they didn't have as much cap space as it may seem despite having over 38 million in cap space at that time. He was fully aware of the situation before many of us were and that's why he and his team are in NHL management. This goes along with the expansion as he made the necessary deals so we did lose a key player for nothing. We won't be so lucky this time around because our team will be better, but he's made signings that doesn't restrict us in who we want to protect which keeps all players on their toes if they want to stay. So he clearly is planning down the road. Ferland was talking about a Wilson type contract meaning he was looking at 5+ million for at least 5 years. He clearly came in under that. So yes great signing indeed. If Sutter isn't healthy, then he goes on LTIR. If healthy, he's an important contributor. We did expect him to have a bigger role, but these injuries haven't helped him find a groove with the team. We will continue to see Beagle's value going into next year. If we didn't pay the premium, he may as well have stayed in Washington. For a 4th line guy, he seemed well loved there, which goes to show you the type of player and person he is. We can argue over the value of players, but at the end of the day, we are going to be under the cap even with Boeser signed to 7 or less. We have filled most of the holes on the team. The less than favourable contracts will be off the books within 3 years right in line with players needing extensions and raises. We are in a good position right now.
  12. I thought so too, but they have Sobotka and Larsson who were their top PK guys and for their bottom 6. So maybe a 2nd line center if they want to upgrade on Reinhart or Mittlestadt. Don't see them having much need for a winger though especially after adding Johansson.
  13. Unless we move Tanev out for picks and maybe even utilize these picks to nab Risto. Buffalo actually has an overabundance in Risto, Montour, Bogosian, Miller and now recently acquired Jokiharju who's left handed but listed as a RD. We looked to have too many forwards as is and we added another one in Ferland, so I don't think our current numbers would prevent us from upgrading our D and Ristolainen IMO certainly does that.
  14. They want to move out a RD, so probably don't want to add another. They added Johansson, so that's their top 6 boost. Only thing I can think of them needing is maybe a boost for LD and goaltending. I don't think we can afford to lose a LD at this point that will help them immediately. We can't really afford to lose Markstrom just yet until we are more confident with Demko. I'm not sure what our plans are with Demko and whether Buffalo is even interested with Luukkonen in their system already. We have signed an abundance of goalies though which may raise some eyebrows.
  15. They seem to only understand that you can only move a player along with their 1st rounder and only then is it a genius move.
  16. So the list is about who added the biggest name? It's not about most improved as the title suggests? I guess it doesn't surprise me that they find a way to twist it to make Toronto be the top Canadian team.
  17. I do agree that adding Barrie and Ceci (and Harpur) is an improvement over say Gardiner and Zaitsev (and Hainsey). But they might be losing both of these guys the following year. So I guess it's a question of if they've improved for this coming season and for long term. Either way though, not sure how Toronto is ahead of us in terms of "improvement".
  18. Watch him sign with the Canucks for like 6-6.5 million a year though. Seems like maybe players are believing in Vancouver.
  19. Who cares? He brought up that he has a good character background. Just makes it that much more easier to root for. Fits right into what "being a Canuck" is that Benning and crew keep talking about.
  20. Tryamkin could be returning as soon as the end of this season as his contract would be up. No need to rush Podkolzin and his two year contract goes well in line with Pearson's contract expiring (as well as Baertschi) to open up cap room and a top 6 spot for him to slide into should he come as advertised. The cap room saved goes to EP and Hughes' extension while we have a potential top 6 guy on an ELC for 3 seasons while these guys are in their primes. With the Ferland signing, I can't imagine us adding Gusev unless we unload some cap.
  21. Lots of swings, not much connected. Probably didn't want to hurt each other knowing they'll be teammates in the future!
  22. Or it escalates it with Benning looking to add more size to the lineup. Lucic for Eriksson would continue the trend.
  23. If those past contracts keep Gardiner out of here, then thank goodness. I'd argue without those contracts, guys like Ferland might want to take on more to eat up the wiggle room we would have. Beagle is excellent, Sutter if healthy is fine and Schaller could easily be waived, so no problems here. Eriksson is overpaid, but you don't plan for a free agency 3 years down the road because who knows who would actually be available then and be willing to sign here.
