  1. They're still sorting through all the offers thrown their way and managing the bidding wars. No one wanted Myers which is why he signed so quickly and Benning was desperate and threw the bank at him despite no demand. Oh and Benning sucks. Sounds about right?
  2. Sutter and Ferland aren't really comparables as players though. Sutter is a center which is a more premium position. His main focus throughout his career has mainly been as a defensive center, so for him to get 30-40 points while trying to shut down the top opposition is more impressive than a player getting top 6 minutes and maxing out at around the same offensive numbers. Now I get that Ferland adds the physicality which is something of value, so it's not that I'm opposed to adding him, but it's more about what we have to move to bring him in and I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle. I'm not opposed to moving Sutter, I just can't see many teams interested at this point unless it's a swap of cap not giving us picks. We are not the only ones that see his injury issues of late, so if you were on the other end of things, would you give up a 2nd or 3rd for him? It's too much risk for the same reasons that you presented as to why you don't want him here. Similarly for Tanev with the injury concerns, but Tanev seems to make a significant difference when he's in the lineup. And while he is often out of the lineup, you still need to replace that quality when he is in the lineup otherwise it's a step backwards. I have to believe we could get more out of Tanev simply with the addition of Myers who could take on more minutes unlike players we've had seasons before. So to get a Tanev that looks effective, it'll only make his value greater to teams and if he can be healthy (I know it's a risk) at the trade deadline, then that's when his value is greatest. If we can find the right deal now to move him, I'm okay with that, but hopefully it means we have a replacement in store and not eating up all that cap in a position of less need. There is a trend that youth is taking over, so why restrict ourselves with more contracts with term which is likely what Ferland wants. We could simply keep Tanev and Sutter who will be expiring sooner to allow the youth to take over and if their injury issues continue, it simply allows youth to get more games without the pressure of taking a full time spot immediately and can develop that way.
  3. When Tanev was hurt prior, we didn't have the depth to replace him and Stecher took on a lot more and performed well. Now we have Myers who is primed for a bigger role here which could ease the workload on Tanev and maybe mitigating his injury issues somewhat. Having Tanev in the lineup is better than without and we don't have the RD youth ready for the jump. We could push Benn over to the right for a young LD to jump up but at this juncture, it is only weakening the depth on the left side to do so. I'm not saying we don't trade Tanev, but I am saying that he needs to be replaced as a "healthy" Tanev. I just don't think dumping him without properly replacing him is really beneficial to the team right now. As for Sutter, I personally wouldn't give up a 2nd or 3rd for him. Not sure I would even take him on with his injury status and remaining term on his contract. He's currently at the point where we likely need to add a sweetener to unload his full cap. I think he needs to play a stretch and be effective before teams start answering calls that involve him in a deal. At that point though, he might be effective enough for us that we may not be ready to move him just yet either. It's interesting that you want to dump these "diminished assets" and then add a guy who's had a couple of concussion issues last season alone and has only capped out at 41 points. I think if Ferland was willing to go for a 2 or 3 year deal, some team may have bit already. Rumour was he was looking for a Tom Wilson type deal and he may still be which is why he remains unsigned.
  4. Schneider had a tough stretch, but they still seem to be committed to him. At worst he's a veteran backup which they would need to replace if they moved him. They may want to keep him for the same expansion reason.
  5. We have enough room as of today to sign him to an 8 million dollar (or more) deal especially once the roster gets set to a 23 man roster. I hope he doesn't get to 8 million a season, but we can afford it. 2 months of negotiations before training camp. It's not even a concern for me right now.
  6. Still living in the past when Colorado and Vancouver were in a division. Same conference then, still some opportunity.
  7. Well I think the same goes for Brodie should he be had for cheap. They can settle for Sutter since they lost out on Kadri
  8. If we are trading Tanev, we need to be replacing Tanev and ideally with quality. We finally boosted our defense, so why take a step back again? I'm not all too concerned about adding another forward at this juncture as we have plenty of bodies to fill the void for the time being. Sutter just doesn't have the value right now until he can put together a relatively healthy and effective season. If he stays healthy, he only makes our team better, if he's not, then he goes on LTIR and take a look at our depth (eg Gaudette).
  9. It's July 4th. Bo signed his incredible deal in September. We have a long ways before even being concerned about this dragging on.
  10. Jordie will have many chances to exact revenge soon enough now that they are back in the same division again.
  11. I wonder if there could be a Gusev for Puljujarvi deal. Edmonton may be able to afford 4 million and having a potential Panarin to go with McDavid could be magic. Puljujarvi adds to Vegas' size game and be a relatively cheap player in the short term for them as he continues to grow his game.
  12. With Sautner, Teves, Juolevi likely to start in Utica and Rathbone, Tryamkin and even Utunen coming in soon, he's running out of time, but still has that allure of youth and potential. We may need more depth for injuries, but that can be mitigated with AHL signings. Perhaps we move on from Sautner and Teves and keep Brisebois, which is a possibility, but I'm open to the idea of him being a sweetener in a deal if there is demand simply because it's looking more like a position of strength for us.
  13. Hence why Sautner is above Brisebois in terms of depth now being more seasoned and yet would still have value in a trade because he's still young and has potential. It's not that I want to get rid of Brisebois, it's that we have depth in this position and it would appear that even if he develops well that we may not have a spot for him anyway with who we have in the pipeline in the same position. Adding someone like Fantenberg suggests they rather have someone like him in the press box and allowing our younger guys to continue to develop in the AHL. In the meantime, Brisebois will need to start standing out or he will be squeezed out and instead of us trying to get value for him, he withers into being obsolete as years go by.
  14. There aren't many teams looking to add cap to reach the floor, so it's not as enticing to have the cap over salary strategy. Retaining cap to match closer to his salary would be more enticing. His play last season hasn't warranted full value for his contract, so unless it's strictly trading for potential, then it's a high risk at his full price tag.
  15. I think they really only need a couple million more especially after the LTIR relief. Anymore is just for buffer.
  16. Well I don't know what assets they want. I don't think anyone does, not even @SabreFan1.
  17. Rather have Ristolainen over Barrie IMO especially with a couple more years at 5.4 million. I see no reason why we can't have both him and Myers if we move out Tanev. Barrie will have a high UFA price tag (although I said the same thing about Myers, so who knows) and aside from the offense which Risto would also provide, there's not much else to his game unlike Risto who IMO can contribute more.
  18. As much as supporters rave about the acquisitions, there seem to be far more "fans" (the vocal ones) that dump on everything that happens or doesn't happen especially immediately after it happens. This is the first year where I feel like there has actually been more positivity as it seems maybe people are gaining traction to the idea that there is a plan for the rebuild and things are heading in the right direction that they may not have seen previously.
  19. No Ristolainen is coming here, stop it with that nonsense.
  20. Potential is one thing, but currently he's behind Sautner hence why Sautner was getting more games at the end of last season over Brisebois. There's potential for Brisebois to surpass him (and others to get into a full time NHL gig), but just not a lot of time left to do so with who's in the system right now. So even passing Sautner (who's likely a Utica call up anyway) doesn't land him a NHL gig, but maybe just more call ups at this point and as mentioned by the end of this season, we could see Tryamkin and/or Rathbone also join the team and another season of development of Juolevi and he will be pushed further down the depth chart. This is why I'd explore moving him while he's still young and has this potential if the interest is there around the league.
  21. When it's laid out like that, I have to say it's an improvement. Kadri provided grit, but went over the edge too many times and is useless if not in the lineup when needed. Gardiner was atrocious on D, but replaced by Barrie at a cost of 2.75 million. Zaitsev wasn't performing to what they needed and losing Hainsey is tough but he's an aging vet and they're replaced by a younger Ceci who IMO is an upgrade on both guys. So it's really depth here, but you didn't include Harpur who's a decent bottom pairing guy especially when their top 4 will probably take up the brunt of the minutes. Ennis was rather useless and Marleau was the odd man out and Kerfoot is a cheaper and younger replacement. Not sure where Spezza fits in unless he can redefine his game as a defensive specialist. Brown does take away some of the grit, but these types could be found relatively cheap come TDL if needed. So assuming they can find a way to lock up Marner, IMO they look better on paper this year than last. The only problem is it's only going to last one year and they're going to have to blow things up again. It's looking inevitable that they need to dump Nylander for cheap or go creative and move someone like Matthews to spread out the wealth for better depth.
  22. He's behind Sautner on the depth chart IMO so he's really not in the running to be on the team full time anyway. Juolevi should surpass him quickly and it only looks worse for him if/when Tryamkin and/or Rathbone join the team as well. I'd be curious if he would be a decent sweetener (young dman with decent size) to unload a Sutter or LE. I only suggest this because I like Brisebois and think he has value, but not sure how the league views him.
  23. If Nylander is moved then they would need to retain cap if they expect value in return. If they want to outright move out his entire cap hit, then good luck to them as they will need to sell really low on Nylander as his value is at his lowest with his latest performance on a rather large contract. A Nylander with 1-1.5 million retained should garner decent interest though.
  24. If he wants 9 million, thank goodness we didn't acquire him. He is decent offensively (curious to know if he's that good or if he benefits from high powered forwards), but doesn't provide much else. But yes, I can't see how Toronto will be able to afford to retain him or Ceci beyond this year.
